” What the fuck are you doing?! Let them go, now! ” She roared angrily.

” Calm down, Phoenix. You aren’t able to move because I said so. The instance you do, those spears you see over there will pierce straight into their head and… dead! ”

Uncontrolled tears flooded Phoenix’s eyes as she glanced at Axion and Corbin. This is all her fault. She shouldn’t have allowed them to go ahead despite her instinct warning her about the danger. Why didn’t she listen to it?

” Listen to me Phoenix. The life of your mate and that of his brother is in your hands. I might decide to let them go if you tell me what you’re ready to give me in return. So tell me, how far can you go to save your Axion? ”

” Just let them go! Why won’t you just let us be?! What have we ever done to you?! ” Phoenix yelled angrily as her tears rolled down.

” Mind how you talk to me, young lady! ” The Devil thundered.

” Or else I won’t hesitate to…”

” Please don’t. Just let them go. Take my life instead in exchange for theirs, please ”

A mischievous grin crept up the Devil’s lips and his eyes went down to Phoenix’s stomach.

” I can see you’re pregnant. Pregnant with Axion’s child ” Phoenix immediately wrap her hands around her stomach, scowling at him.

” Keep my baby out of this! ” She glared sternly.

” Well… I can’t. Since Axion bluntly refused to submit to me, his child will have to do it for him then. His child in return for his life ”

” Never! ” Phoenix bellowed, breathing angrily.

” I will never give my child to you… never! ”

” Ok ” The Devil shrugged. With just a snap of his fingers, the spear on Axion’s forehead moved a desirable distance back and was about to pierce mercilessly into his forehead when,

” Stop, please! ” Phoenix’s broken voice halted it. The Devil raised a brow at her.

” Please take my life instead. Keep Axion and my baby out of this, I’m begging you ” Phoenix pleaded in tears.

” You’re wasting my time, Phoenix. Make a choice, Axion or your child! ” The Devil snapped impatiently.

More tears rolled down Phoenix’s eyes and she became overwhelmed with confusion. Her head was spinning and hurting, she didn’t know what to do.

She can’t lose Axion. He is her everything, her life. How can she live without him?

On the other hand, is her child. She can’t lose it either. How can she hand him over to his heartless being? He will ruin him like he almost did to Axion.

” What should I do?! Mom, please help me, I’m so confused, please! ” She cried loudly.

” Your mother won’t help you out here! ”

” I’m giving you only to the count of five to make your final decision! ” Phoenix nodded negatively, running her hands through her hair.

Phoenix slumped to the floor and broke down in uncontrollable tears.

Ever since her deal with the Devil, Phoenix hasn’t been herself. Days passed with her locking herself up in the room, crying all day and night. She couldn’t stop hating herself for what she did. She couldn’t face Axion, she felt so ashamed of herself.

Axion couldn’t bear seeing his Phoenix in this condition. He has tried everything he could to make her open up and tell him what happened, all to no avail.

Both he and Corbin couldn’t remember what happened after Medusa told them the name of the King of all Dark Genie. All they knew was that they woke up the next minute in their respective rooms.

Axion opened the door and entered with a tray of food as he walked up to Phoenix, who was squatted by the bedside, hugging herself tight and crying. His heart bled in pain as he squat beside her.

” Love ” He softly called but Phoenix didn’t even look up.

” Love, why are you doing this to me? Is there something you’re hiding from me? Please tell me what is bothering you, I can’t bear seeing you like this ” He tried cupping her face but she pushed him away.

” Stay away from me please ” She mumbled and Axion felt a sharp pain pierce his heart.

” Love ” He tried hugging her but Phoenix pushed him away roughly.

” Just stay away from me, Axion, don’t you get it! ” She snapped angrily and ran out of the room.

” Phoenix ” Axion went after her immediately.

While Phoenix was running and crying, she bumped into someone making her stop. But on seeing who it was, her eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

” What… are… you doing here? ” Her lips trembled in fear.

” Just came to visit you and remind you of our deal and also to warn you to not try anything stupid ” The Devil scoffed.

” What deal are you talking about? ” Axion’s voice came and Phoenix went cold in shock. She started shaking uncontrollably making the Devil grin in satisfaction.

Axion walked up to them, glaring at him. He pulled Phoenix to himself, his hand on her waist in a protective manner.

” What are you doing here and what deal are you talking about? ” He demanded and that was when Phoenix came back to reality. She immediately grabbed Axion’s hand.

” It’s nothing Axion, he’s just spilling nonsense. Let’s go back to our room, ok? ” She tried not to make it obvious she was shivering.

” Nonsense? ” The Devil pretentiously gasped.

” Have you forgotten that easily or wait, are you trying to hide the truth from him? ” Axion gazed at Phoenix with a slight frown. Just then, Glinda and Corbin arrived at the scene.

” Axion, don’t listen to him. Let’s go, please ” Phoenix chuckled nervously. Axion nodded and they both turned to leave when,

” Phoenix gave up your child in exchange for your life ” The Devil dropped the bomb and they all went stiff in shock.

Axion turned swiftly, sending him a dangerous glare.

” What nonsense are you talking about? ”

” This isn’t nonsense, Axion, it’s the cold truth. Phoenix and I made a deal. Your child’s life in exchange for yours. She handed your baby over to me, which means he is now my possession ”

Unexplainable shock scourge down Axion and he glared at Phoenix whose head was down in shame, hot tears rolling down her face.

” What is he saying, Phoenix? Is he telling the truth? ” He demanded and she started whimpering. That was enough to answer Axion’s question.

” No, no, no, tell me he’s lying Phoenix. He’s spilling nonsense, right? ” He scoffed in disbelief, gripping her shoulder.

” Tell me! ”

” I’m sorry ” Was all Phoenix could say. Axion let go of her shoulders and staggered back in shock.

” You… gave… our… child to… this devil? ” He mumbled as hot tears tumbled down his face.

” How could you?! ” He thundered angrily and a loud whimper left Phoenix’s lips. She bit her lips and shuddered in shame.

” Are you aware of all I went through in the hands of that beast and you went ahead and gave up our child that easily to him, what type of a human are you?! ”

” Axion, I’m sorry. I didn’t know what to do. I was so confused and didn’t want to lose you, please forgive me ” Phoenix tried cupping his face but he pushed her away and stormed off.

Glinda, who was already crying, held Phoenix as Axion pushed her away. Phoenix hugged her tightly, trembling without restraint.

” Aunt, please I’m sorry. Tell him to listen to me, I didn’t do it on purpose, I’m sorry ” She choked on her tears. Glinda shushed her, patting her back consolingly.
