Upon hearing Julia’s words, Millie was overcome with sadness. She feared that her family would judge her and consider her foolish. Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
Hence, she couldn’t bring herself to reveal that she had risked her life to save Winston when he was kidnapped back then. She lowered her head and remained silent.
The doctor came to check on Millie. He confirmed that she was doing well and could be discharged after two days of observation.
After Julia came back from sending the doctor out, Millie said, “Mom, I want to eat pierogies.”
“You still have quite the appetite.” Terrence tapped Millie on the head.
She chuckled. “Dad, why don’t you go back with Mom and cook more pierogies for me? More meat for the fillings, please.”
Terrence gently rubbed Millie’s head, sympathizing with her, but he said, “Tsk. It’s already 8:00 pm, and you’re still expecting us to make pierogies for you.”
Then, he snorted. “You have no empathy for your parents whatsoever!”
Millie pouted. “So are you cooking for me or not?”
“Yes, yes, yes! Can I not cook for you?” Terrence thought that being able to cook for Millie was a blessing. They were still needed, which was an even greater blessing.
“Regarding the kidnapper…” Terrence seemed to have something to say.
Millie shook her head and interrupted Terrence. “Forget about it. It was simply an unfortunate incident in life.”
“You’re so optimistic.” Terrence sighed deeply, then returned with Julia to make pierogies for Millie.
After the two left, Millie’s smile vanished, and her gaze turned cold. She vowed to avenge her kidnapper ten times over.
“Boss!” Marvin burst into the ward.
Millie looked up and exclaimed, “So now you remembered I exist? I’ve been missing for hours. Why didn’t you come looking for me?”
Marvin felt aggrieved. “Boss, how was I supposed to know you had been kidnapped in the middle of the night?”
“My location tracking suddenly disappeared. Why didn’t you look for me?” Millie glared at Marvin. Her location tracker had always been at M Base. If it disappeared, something must have happened to her.
Marvin felt embarrassed as he admitted his mistake. “I’m sorry, boss. I was wrong.”
“If you wish to plead guilty, then help me find the mastermind responsible for the kidnapping,” she instructed coldly.
Marvin sneered. “There’s no need to investigate. It must be that bitch, Joanna.”
“Probably not her,” Millie said.
Marvin was shocked. If not Joanna, then who else in Yerwick disliked Millie? Could it possibly be Winston? “Don’t waste any more time. Start investigating immediately.” She glared at Marvin, clearly displeased.
He immediately agreed. “Okay. I’m sorry, boss. I’ll do it right away.”
She hummed in response.
Marvin left after putting down the fruit.
Millie was alone in the ward. She reached for her phone, intending to check her WhatsApp messages.
However, she was immediately drawn to the latest news. “Breaking News in Yerwick: Ms. Caldwell Kidnapped; Winston Heroically Rescues Her Alone, Now in Critical Condition at Hospital”
Millie frowned, pondering if he was being rescued in an emergency.
As she continued scrolling, another news article was published just one hour after the previous update.” Winston’s Condition Stabilizes; Transferred to Ward.”
She clicked on the picture. When Winston was taken to the ambulance, his arms and shoulders were covered in blood. The white shirt was almost entirely stained with blood.
However, he seemed unconcerned about his injuries, his eyes fixed on an unknown point. Without knowing where he was looking, Millie enlarged the photo. She remained silent until she saw the next photo.
He was fixing his gaze on her while she was being pushed into the ambulance. His concern was evident, and he seemed fragile at that moment. His expression was serious when he looked at her.
After she clicked off the image, she noticed that there were a lot of comments.
