Chapter 742
Skylar asked, “What did he say? Does she remember?”
Rowan replied, “She described him talking to someone, saying that he was willing to entrust the happiness of his future generations into the person’s hands. My dad would become his most loyal believer. Sometimes, he would even scream. That’s what he’s been saying for the past few nights. This has scared my mom, but my dad doesn’t remember it at all.”
Skylar was silent after hearing that.
“It isn’t a problem, is it?” Rowan had heard what happened to Frank, Harry, and another man. Goosebumps rose on his arms whenever he thought about it.
If such negative energy clung to their family, would he end up dead too? He was terrified.
“Don’t scare yourself just yet. Look at this calligraphed quote hanging on the wall. Has it been here all this while?” Skylar asked. She pointed at the canvas hung on the wall. It looked pretty old.
The word “Belief” was written across the canvas in an elegant, looping script. It was surrounded by tiny inscriptions of the same word.
One would think it was the work of a skillful writer. At least, others would think
- SO.
“I’m not sure. I feel like it hadn’t been here before. I have other calligraphed quotes like this at home. My dad is an avid collector. I thought he’d written it himself. This canvas isn’t the source of the problem, is it?” asked Rowan,
slightly spooked.
He couldn’t see anything weird by looking at the canvas. He didn’t like such cultured activities. Rowan would rather drink wine and flirt with women if he
had the time.
As Skylar was about to reply, the office door swung open, and Jeremiah strode
- in.
“Dad!” Rowan greeted.
Jeremiah glanced at him, displeased. He asked, “Why are you here?”
His useless son was up to something.
The corner of Rowan’s lips twitched. He knew Jeremiah looked down upon him. He replied, “I’ve invited Skylar over.”
“Skylar?” Jeremiah’s eyes lit up. He glanced over at her. He’d thought she was an employee. Awe glinted in his eyes.
If Alexander and George praised her, she must’ve been excellent at what she
did.
“Nice to meet you, Mr. Jakeman. My name is Skylar Sullivan,” she smiled as she introduced herself.
Jeremiah greeted her with a grin. Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Jeremiah noticed that Skylar had been looking at the calligraphed quote. He walked over while beaming and explained, “I bought it overseas a month ago. I felt like it was destined for me. Look. Every iteration of ‘belief‘ is written differently.”
The more he explained, the more satisfied he was with it.
Rowan rolled his eyes. His father was still boasting about it when it might be the source of all their problems.
Skylar kept smiling. She observed Jeremiah’s eyes. They seemed to be alight with adoration for the painting. If not, he wouldn’t have hung it where he could see it every day.
It annoyed Rowan. He said, “Dad, stop waxing poetic about it. It might be a problem for us.”
The more he looked at calligraphed quotes, the more he disliked them. In addition, his dad had spent millions on them. He was more wasteful than
Rowan.
Jeremiah glared at him and said, “What nonsense are you going on about? This calligraphed quote is worth millions. How could it be problematic? Do you know how many people came just to look at it? Many of them begged to purchase it from me.”
“There is indeed something wrong with this painting. Thankfully, Rowan
noticed it early. If not, you would be saddled with Alzheimer’s or schizophrenia,
‘Skylar said outright.
Then, she walked closer to the painting.
