Just then, Skylar stepped outside. Skylar was surprised to see Vera as she was about to leave.
Vera hadn’t expected to run into Skylar after driving here. Just as she was about to leave, she found herself locking eyes with Skylar from her car.
The frustration that had been simmering inside her suddenly intensified. “I was just driving by,” she said, frowning and speaking in a low voice.
Skylar thought, “Driving by?”
She didn’t call Vera out on it. She merely responded with a casual “Oh.”
Seeing Skylar’s dismissive attitude ignited Vera’s anger. “Do you even know how shameful and disgraceful it is to cling to someone who doesn’t love you?” Vera coldly questioned.
Skylar shot Vera a piercing look. “Do you know how unethical it is to repeatedly tempt a married man? Unless you have something important to say, stay away from me.
“As long as I’m still Joe’s wife, you better keep your distance. Otherwise, I won’t hesitate to hold a press conference and show everyone our marriage certificate.”
“You wouldn’t dare!” Vera’s face paled at the thought. If Skylar were to reveal the marriage certificate, she would never be able to show her face in Jipsburg again.
Previously, when she bought two negative items at the auction house, she brought trouble upon the Ruell family. Her grandfather was already unhappy with her. Her standing in the family had diminished.
Her father was seriously injured and harbored some resentment toward her.
If Joe were to abandon her, it would be easy to imagine that she would lose all her standing in the Ruell family. Her cousins, who were far less impressive, would seize the chance to step on her to rise.
Thinking about the outcome, she gripped the steering wheel tightly.
“Then let’s see if you really dare,” Skylar said. Her smile was both teasing and chilling.
She wouldn’t have been so aggressive if Vera hadn’t provoked her so many times.
All she wanted was Joe’s stance on their relationship. She would not hesitate to divorce Joe if it meant he and Vera could be together. She would sincerely wish them both a lifetime of love and joy.
But Vera had crossed a line.
Vera’s face turned pale as she gritted her teeth at Skylar. She said, “Whether you believe me or not, I’m just passing through here today.”
With that, she didn’t want to engage with Skylar any longer.
At first, Vera had misjudged Skylar, thinking she would be easy to deal with. However, she now understood that confronting Skylar head–on would yield no good results.
With a swift press of the accelerator, Vera sped away. Skylar watched the car zoom off, growing slightly.
If Vera had been truly confident in her relationship with Joe, she wouldn’t have kept coming back to confront her. NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
Later that night, Skylar returned home and found Joe, who had just returned from his business trip. She had been grocery shopping, her hands full of bags.
As Joe took the bags from her, it dawned on her that he had already returned. “You’re back.”
Joe replied, “Yeah, I got home about an hour ago.”
“Oh… have you eaten?” Skylar asked, unsure of what else to say, her tone polite.
After their trip to the courthouse, their dynamic seemed to have reverted to that initial sense of distance.
Joe looked at her and said, “I haven’t. Can you make something for me?”
Skylar couldn’t quite place it, but Joe seemed a bit pitiful.
Skylar thought, “Could the CEO of the Martin Group really feel slighted just because he hadn’t had dinner?” Skylar shook her head, dismissing the thought as her imagination ran wild.
