Gloria said, “Just tell her I went to meet a friend. She can come back in a few days. I’ll stay in the hospital for a while and try to hang on a bit longer.”

Edgar’s eyes grew misty at her words. Gloria had been through so much in her life. Even in her old age, she still had so many worries.

With the Martins being a handful, his concern for her health grew stronger. He hoped she could hold on for a few more years.

Vera was chatting with a few friends over tea, feeling a bit bored.

“Vera, are you and Joe getting engaged soon?” one friend suddenly asked her.

Vera paused, recalling the current stare of her relationship with Joe. Ever since their brief encounter at the recent gala dinner, Joe had been too busy to meet up. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

It was hard to pinpoint their current stage. Still, Molly’s confident claim lingered in Vera’s mind. She had said Joe would soon divorce Skylar and insisted that Vera wear the ring.

Vera wondered if it was simply that she had become accustomed to wearing it, but it brought her an inexplicable sense of trust.

“I’m just friends with Joe. It’s not what you think,” Vera said casually, her tone nonchalant.

To her friends, she appeared effortlessly confident, a quality they envied. If it had been anyone else, they would have stumbled over their words in front of Joe, but Vera remained completely

composed.

“In all of Jipsburg, you’re the only one who matches Joe. If you don’t get engaged to him, who else is worthy?” another friend joked.

The others chimed in, agreeing with her. It did seem that way.

Vera’s expression subtly shifted as she thought about how she hadn’t married Joe while Skylar had. A wave of discomfort washed over her, almost as if she had swallowed something unpleasant.

“Alright, let’s stop with the jokes. If anyone overheard, they might actually think I have a relationship with Joe. We’re just friends for now, and whether that change depends on him.

“I’m tired today, so I’m leaving,” Vera said, rising from her seat.

The tea had lost its appeal anyway. Her friends exchanged glances, surprised by Vera’s sudden change in mood.

It felt like Vera was saying she didn’t care, but the intensity behind her words suggested otherwise. They couldn’t help but wonder if the rumors were true that Joe had taken another woman and lost interest in Vera.

If that were the case, it explained why Vera had been so quick to show her irritation.

After leaving the tea house, Vera hopped into her car and headed toward the city’s outskirts.

The drive was smooth, and before she knew it, she had arrived at Galaxy Villa.
