A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 297 Retreat as Advance

Amiya was strong-willed, but Brendon didn’t even flinch. He picked up the blanket and gently placed it over Amiya’s legs, his expression icy cold. “Mom, there’s no need to be angry,” he said.

“Hmph! Brendon, you’ve changed!” Amiya gritted her teeth. “The baby in Shannon’s belly is the Stuart family’s grandchild. I won’t allow you to hurt it. And Ranita doesn’t need to come back now that she’s left Boulderland Mansion!”

“Mom, let us young people handle our own affairs. You don’t need to interfere,” Brendon had been patient enough over the years and indulged Amiya only out of filial piety; he didn’t really listen to everything she said like a dog.

“Brendon! You’re not listening to me anymore? Are you trying to kill me?” Amiya clenched her fists tightly on the armrests of her wheelchair, making a loud noise.

Her emotions were getting out of control and it looked like she was about to have an episode.

Brendon suppressed his emotions and said calmly, “Mom, that’s not what I meant at all! I just hope you won’t interfere with my relationship with Ranita.”Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.

“Brendon, I watched Shannon grow up; there is no way I can sit idly by while that bitch Ranita hurts her!” Amiya was unreasonable as she stared at Brendon firmly defending Shannon.

At this moment Holly came out, “Brother did you fight with Mom? You know Mom can’t take any stimulation.”

“Holly, shut up!” Brenden gave Holly a cold look as Holly puffed up angrily, “What’s the use of being angry with me or Mom?”

“The baby in Shannon’s belly is yours! Even if you don’t care about Shannon, think about your child! And we’ve kept this pregnancy from the Murphy family so far; do you think we can keep it hidden forever?”

This matter hit home for Brendon who became even more upset than before.

“You guys…don’t fight because of me…”

Just then Shannon appeared at the door looking pale and shaky as if on the verge of tears, “Auntie…Holly…and Brendon…please don’t make things difficult for me…”

“Brendon… if you don’t want to keep this child, then just get rid of it! I don’t want to make things difficult for you…” Shannon said, holding her head and swaying towards the door.

“Shannon!” Brendon rushed over to support her. He felt like he was being pushed into a corner step by step. He was filled with guilt towards Shannon, which made him gentler. “You should go lie down now!”

“We can talk about this later. Your health is more important right now!” Brendon said.

Shannon blushed at his concern and said softly, “Brendon, I’m fine! I know you still care about me deep down inside and that makes me happy.”

“Brendon, don’t worry about me… I won’t make things difficult for you,” Shannon paused before continuing in a gentle voice. “You know me well enough to know that I wouldn’t force anyone to do something they didn’t want to do. If you’ve chosen Ranita, then I’ll accept it.”

“Don’t burden yourself with guilt over what happened before,” she added humbly as she tried to be reasonable and understanding towards Brendon’s situation.

The more reasonable and understanding Shannon was being towards him, the more guilty Brendon felt inside.
