After Carlee finished her examination, she smiled and advised, “Maybe you didn’t get enough rest, that’s why you feel uncomfortable! Let’s observe for a bit, and if there’s nothing wrong, you can go home.”

“Mr. Stuart, Shannon is in a special situation right now. You need to take good care of her,” Carlee reminded him.

Shannon coquettishly thanked Carlee and apologized for the trouble. “Thank you so much Carlee! I’m sorry to have bothered you with such a small problem!”

“You go ahead and take care of yourself!”

This was the temporary clinic arranged by Carlee. After the door closed shut behind them, there was no one else around. Shannon looked timidly at Brendon and apologized again, “Brendon, I’m sorry for wasting your time!”

“I didn’t mean to! I woke up this morning with some bleeding… I was afraid something might be wrong with the baby…”

Pausing briefly, Shannon handed Brendon an ultrasound report, “Brendon, this is the ultrasound report that Carlee helped me do before you arrived. This is our baby… don’t you think it’s cute?”

In a black mass on the screen was only one tiny dot.

It wasn’t clear whether it was cute or not.

Brendon had no expression on his face; he just muttered indifferently in response. Immediately biting her lip in distressful self-pitying manner, Shannon said, “I’m sorry Brendon… I…”

“Shannon, this is my fault! I’ll make it up to you.” Suppressing his guilt inside, Brendon spoke coldly, “We can’t keep this child.”

At these words, Shannon’s face turned pale as death itself.

Her eyes were red; her voice filled with extreme pain, “Brendon, did we really have to do this? I already made up my mind about not keeping this child since after all, you’re still married to Ranita.”

“But… Carlee did an examination for me, and she said our baby inside my belly is very strong. I should cherish it.”

“Brendon…. we adults shouldn’t let innocent children bear our mistakes.” As Shannon spoke, tears streamed down like raindrops from her eyes, making herself look pitiful beyond measure.

Although Brendon’s expression remained cold, his heart felt uneasy. He chose Ranita, and therefore couldn’t keep this child either.

“Sorry Shannon!” Brendon maintained his firm attitude which made Shannon hate him even more. She thought viciously that maybe Ranita had told Brendon something. Perhaps he knew about Ranita being pregnant?

She grabbed Brendon’s sleeve and pleaded, “I’ll take the child and run away. Can I? I’ll raise the child myself and won’t tell them anything about you.”

“I can even tell my family that this is not your child… Please don’t be so heartless.”

“Please?” Shannon continued to cry. “Look, it’s a little life! I can’t be so cruel…”

Shannon held onto the report card tightly as tears fell onto it.

“Shannon… calm down,” Brendon said before Holly pushed Amiya into the room.

Holly widened her eyes in disbelief and exclaimed in a high-pitched voice, “Brother, are you crazy? That’s your child with Shannon! How could you…”

Amiya was also full of anger and disappointment.

“Holly, stay with Shannon! Brendon, come out!” Amiya walked out coldly while throwing the blanket off her legs to the ground.

Brendon frowned as he bent down to pick up the blanket but Amiya slapped him hard across his face while shouting angrily, “You bastard!”
