A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 286 Fulfilling Their Wishes

“Can you sit here?” The Stuart family was also influential, and sitting in a corner could attract gossip.

Ranita hated Shannon, but still cared about Brendon.

His attitude just now at least made her feel less upset. Ranita was afraid of causing him trouble, “Why don’t you go back and sit down?”

“If I really leave, will you hit me?” Brendon grabbed Ranita’s fingers and found that they were cold. He frowned, “Why are they so cold? Let me get you a shawl.”

“No need!” Ranita held his hand and didn’t let Brendon leave. “Don’t go.”

Brendon looked at her and smiled slightly.

He said, “Okay, I won’t go.”

Steve who had to see it drank half a glass of red wine and coughed lightly, “Are you guys done yet?”

“Steve, did you see clearly?” Brendon held onto Ranita’s fingers and shook them towards Steve with great pride! Ranita glared at him disapprovingly. “What nonsense are you talking to Dr. Pearson about!”

“Dr. Pearson, don’t mind him!”

Steve went to find his friends without paying attention to Brendon.

The banquet was lively.

Familiar people began chatting with each other while Brendon went over to the main table to talk with Diego. Ranita ate only half full when Shannon slowly walked over.

“Ranita…” Shannon spoke softly like a spoiled child. “Can we talk for a bit?”

“No need, let’s talk tomorrow as planned.” It was someone else’s banquet after all; she didn’t want any trouble or ruin it later on.

However, Shannon seemed not to understand this as she sat in Brendon’s seat pitifully biting her lip, “Ranita, is there something I did wrong that made you angry? I didn’t mean it…”

Her soft voice quickly drowned out by other noises; all that could be seen was her exaggerated expression of grievance.

Ranita felt nauseous watching this scene unfold before her eyes; she felt extremely annoyed!

She stood up intending on leaving outside for some fresh air but Shannon chased after her, stopping her in place, “Ranita…are you not angry anymore?”

“Shannon, I don’t care if what happened between us is intentional or not. I just don’t want to speak with you. So please stop bothering me!” As soon as the words left Ranita’s mouth, Shannon looked even more aggrieved. Water mist swirled in her eyes; she would cry soon.

“Brenden isn’t here, who will see your tears if they fall?”

“Ranita… Can you not say those things about me? I don’t have any ill intentions towards you, and I didn’t mean to cling onto Brendon, but I just can’t control myself. My heart cares too much for Brendon!”

Ranita’s temples began to throb as her head started to ache.

It was easy for someone else to say “just bear with it,” but only the one who was bearing knew how it really felt. Ranita felt like her heart was being squeezed tightly, “Shannon, please don’t talk about these things with me. I don’t want any trouble at Mr. Webster’s birthday party so please stop bothering me!”

“I… I just wanted to talk with you… I really have no bad intentions… I care too much for Brendon and that’s why I was jealous of you earlier, Ranita. I want to let go of my feelings but… but… I have Brendon’s child! Our love is innocent, and the child is innocent too, Ranita… Can’t you please make it work for us?” Shannon’s voice trembled like a fragile mosquito, her eyes turning red. Her face portrayed an extreme sense of innocence, making anyone who looked at her believe she was being mistreated.Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.

Ranita couldn’t hide her heartache any longer. The anguish in her heart surged forth, with nowhere left to hide.
