Chapter 972: Don’t Underestimate
“I got it,” Xander said.
There was a sound from the other end, and after the call ended, Xander muttered, “Bye.”
Verda held his phone, which automatically locked after the call ended. She asked, “What’s your phone password?”
Xander’s eyes widened in surprise.
Do they even know each other that well?
She actually asked him for his phone password. Isn’t that something only close people should know? Even his best friends, Evan and Orion, are not aware of it.
“You’re crossing the line,” he reminded her.
Verda smiled, “Any secrets in your phone?”
Xander remained silent.
Verda turned on his phone, and then held it up for him to see, and the lock screen unlocked automatically.
“Of course, it’s face recognition,” she said.
Xander was speechless.
Verda continued, “People nowadays prefer face recognition or fingerprint unlocking for convenience. I thought, with your busy work schedule, you would probably use face recognition.”
After all, it is as convenient as not having a password at all when holding your own phone, but others wouldn’t be able to unlock it.
She guessed like this, unknowingly hitting the mark accurately.
“What are you up to?” Xander asked.
Verda quickly dialed her own number on his phone, then immediately hung up.
She placed the phone on the console. “Here you go, you stingy thing.”
Xander rolled his eyes. “It’s rude to take someone’s things without permission, don’t you know that?”
Verda didn’t get offended. She gave him a slight smile. “Should I apologize to you?”
Xander glanced at her.
Verda turned to Sacha and said, “It’s okay, I like his attitude.”
Xander, Evan, and Sacha were all taken aback.
Sacha couldn’t stand it anymore, as the girl was clearly being forward, and Xander didn’t seem to notice?
“Hey, Xander, are you mad at me and Evan for showing affection in front of you? The anger hasn’t subsided, has it?” Sacha asked.
“No, of course not,” Xander replied.
“Then why are you being so cold?” Sacha asked.
Xander didn’t see it that way.
He thought he was just having a normal conversation with Verda.
They hadn’t met many times, so it was okay to communicate like this, right?
Verda looked back at Sacha and said with a smile, “It’s okay, I like his attitude.”
Xander, Evan, and Sacha were all surprised by her bold personality.
Sacha leaned in and said, “Let me tell you, look at Xander, not only is he handsome, but also capable. He’s almost thirty and hasn’t been in a relationship yet.”
Verda was shocked and incredulous.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
She stared at Xander, “You’ve never been in a relationship?”
She couldn’t believe that someone at his age had never been in a relationship.
Xander felt embarrassed.
It was because of his busy work schedule and Elijah’s pressure that he didn’t have time for love.
It wasn’t that he wasn’t capable.
“Don’t listen to her nonsense,” Xander tried to hide it.
The more he tried to hide it, the more Verda found loopholes.
“Hmm, Who would’ve thought,” Verda chuckled, “Are you still a virgin?”
As soon as she said that, Sacha couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
Evan looked at Verda with surprise.
“Evan, are you a virgin?” Sacha said, trying to get Evan to speak up.
Evan grabbed Sacha’s hands. “Xander has his own thoughts and considerations, we shouldn’t interfere too much. If he’s interested in Verda, he should pursue her himself.”
Sacha agreed. If Xander really liked Verda, he should take the initiative. They didn’t need to remind him.
The car stopped at the Fuwan Restaurant.
Orion and Luna were already there.
They walked over to them and Orion noticed Verda in the passenger seat. He looked at Xander, as if asking how she ended up in their car and in the passenger seat.
“We were out at sea, and she ran into us. She was drunk, so we gave her a ride,” Xander explained.
Orion nodded. “I see, I thought something was going on between you two.”
“Hey, she’s a wealthy lady, I can’t handle that. Don’t drag me into this,” Verda remarked.
Verda didn’t know when she woke up.
She frowned slightly and looked at Xander, “Is it a crime to be well-off? If I’m born into a rich family, it’s because of my good karma. Are you jealous?”
Xander, “…”
“Why did you wake up and not say anything?” Verda got out of the car, her high heels almost causing her to trip.
Xander, being close to her, instinctively reached out to support her.
Verda blew air on his face, “Hey, if I were interested in you, it would be your good fortune from a previous life. Don’t underestimate it.”
Xander was taken aback by her words.
Not sure if it was from exhaustion or drinking too much, he fell asleep without realizing it.
Xander was speechless.
He had never met a girl like her before.
Sacha said, “I think she drank quite a bit, her words have a strong smell of alcohol.”
Xander noticed some people coming off her yacht, including a few women and men.
He could imagine how wild the party was, and anything else… not that surprising in the adult world.
The car arrived in town. Xander was about to wake her up and ask her to leave, but Sacha stopped him, “Xander, don’t you have any compassion? We don’t know her family’s number, she’s been drinking, and it’s not safe for a woman to be out alone. Let’s take her to the hotel. Isn’t your room vacant? We can come back after dinner, and by then she should be sober and can leave. If you leave her alone, what if she runs into trouble?”
Sacha was trying hard to convince him.
Xander knew what Sacha meant.
But…
He glanced at Verda.
He and Verda were really not on the same page, so matchmaking wasn’t going to work.
“Orion knows her, let him handle it,” Xander said, taking her to the restaurant.
Sacha, “…”
“Why are you blind to the idea of being kind?” Sacha nudged Evan, hoping for a response.
Evan held Sacha’s hands, “Xander has his own considerations. We shouldn’t interfere too much. If he has a woman with him, we can try to set them up, but whether it’s appropriate or not is for him to decide.”
Sacha nodded, realizing that if Xander was interested in Verda, he would have to pursue her himself. They didn’t need to push him.
The car stopped at the entrance of Fuwan Restaurant.
Orion and Luna were already there.
As they approached, Orion saw Verda in the car and looked at Xander, as if asking how she ended up there.
Xander explained, “We met her at sea, and she was drunk, so we gave her a ride.”
Orion nodded, “I see, I thought you two…”
“Hey, she’s a wealthy lady, I can’t afford her. Don’t associate me with her,” Verda interjected.
It was unclear when Verda woke up.
She raised an eyebrow and looked over at Xander. “Is being well-off a crime? If I’m fortunate enough to be born into a good family, should you be envious?”
Xander, “…”
“Why are you awake but not speaking?” Verda got out of the car and nearly tripped in her high heels.
Xander was close by and instinctively reached out to catch her.
Verda blew air in his face, “Hey, if I like you, it’s your good fortune. Don’t underestimate it.”
