Chapter 8
“More than just a widow, she’s a cursed person, even jinxing her in–laws to death. Anyone who marries her is doomed,” they said.
As I listened to everyone smear my name, Sofia looked at me, wanting to say something but hesitating.
The others comforted her, saying that everything was in the past now.
They assured her that her life would get better now that she was with her biological mother. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
They even mentioned how soft–hearted Sofia was, still reluctant to leave me even after all this.
“After all, she’s called her mom for so many years, sigh,” they said.
Before the meal started, Mila found me and casually mentioned Sofia’s large education fund.
But I played dumb, pretending to know nothing about it.
Mila thought I wanted to embezzle the money and threatened me harshly.
“You jinxed Mason to death, and now you want to take the money meant for Sofia? The Jones family won’t let you get away with that,” she warned.
Perhaps Mila had already guessed that I would try to pocket the inheritance.
So today’s banquet was also a setup, a feast with hidden dangers prepared just for me.
Most of the people at today’s banquet were from the Jones family.
If I didn’t give them a good explanation, there was no way I’d leave here in one piece.
Mila took the stage, looking at me with utter disdain.
She looked at me like I was a worthless person on the brink of death.
“Today is a great day for the reunion of mother and daughter,” she announced.
“At the same time, I have something to announce,” she added.
Mila pointed at me, drawing everyone’s attention to me.
