They inquired about the progress of the case. The police informed them that they were still investigating, and it was yet to be decided whether a formal case would be opened.

Neither of them was too disappointed as they had expected that answer.

After submitting the relevant hospital reports and evidence to th

and Miranda headed to the airport.

It was 8:00 pm when they landed at Jandersville.

investigating officer, Paul

They took a cab from the airport back to their apartment. Then, they stopped by their usual restaurant at the entrance of the alley for a quick dinner. After the meal, they headed upstairs.

Miranda took out her keys to unlock her door. Suddenly, she paused and turned to look at Paul, who was also unlocking his door. “Dr. Jefferson, how are you feeling now? You don’t feel discomfort anywhere, right?”

“Not at all. I feel perfectly fine,” he replied.

Miranda nodded. “Don’t forget to take your medication. The doctor said it’s best for you to complete the full three–day course.”

“Alright.”

They bid each other good night and entered their respective apartments.

Miranda enjoyed a relaxing hot shower. She changed into her pajamas and read through two research papers as usual before turning off the lights and going to bed. She soon fell into a deep sleep.

Next door, Paul unpacked his luggage and took a shower. He was already drifting off to sleep when he suddenly remembered Miranda’s reminder. He sighed in resignation and lifted the covers. He got out of bed, went to the living room to take his medication, and returned to lie down again.

Perhaps he had too much sleep at the hospital, or the stimulating effects of the medication. caused Paul to remain wide awake until 1:00 am. Images of Miranda’s face kept replaying in his mind.

It wasn’t until 3:00 am that Paul finally drifted off to sleep. However, his dreams were even more bizarre. He dreamt of that night when he had been drugged…

The cold water in the bathtub did nothing to quell the heat raging within him. At that moment, the bathroom door opened from the outside. A woman approached him slowly, illuminated by the soft amber lights.

She was completely naked!

Paul clung to the last shred of his rationality and asked, “Do you realize you’re standing in

front of a drugged man?”

Her delicate hand caressed his cheek as she leaned closer. Her eyes were filled with allure, like an enchanting seductress!

She said, “Let me be your antidote.”

At that moment, it was as if a bomb blew up in his mind. All his restraint and self–control were shattered. Paul pounced on her like a crazed beast, devouring her whole. In his dream’s final moment, he heard himself whispering in a guilty tone, “Mimi, don’t blame me for this…”

Then, another round of fervent conquest began.

Paul lost count of how many times it happened or what positions he was in. It was dawn by the time he woke from his dream. His sheets were damp and soiled.

A wave of immense shame, mixed with a hint of indescribable emptiness, washed over him. It was as though he was about to drown under the waters.

Paul jumped out of bed irritably and yanked off his sheets and bedding. Then, he threw them all into the trash can.

He scolded himself inwardly, “Paul, you’re nothing but a beast!”

This despondent feeling lingered within him until he left his apartment. Coincidentally, the door across the hall opened at the same time.

“Dr. Jefferson, good morning!” Miranda greeted him with a bright smile. Her gaze landed on the oversized trash bag in his hand. The contents seemed to be bulging out of the bag. She noticed the patterned fabric peeking out from the opening of the bag.

If she wasn’t mistaken, it seemed to be Paul’s bedsheets? novelbin

Unbeknownst to Miranda, Paul’s entire body stiffened the moment he saw her. He nearly turned to stone on the spot when her gaze shifted to the trash bag in his hand.

“Good morning,” he mumbled hastily, Then, he ran downstairs.

He ran like someone was after him.

Miranda was puzzled. Was Paul going out for a morning run?

Meanwhile, Elizabeth had returned to Jandersville a day before Paul. Perhaps it was out of guilt or avoidance, but she chose to travel with the main group arranged by the event organizer.

Throughout this whole time, she didn’t ask Paul when he would be traveling back home. Similarly, he didn’t contact her either.
