What Separates Me and You

Chapter 124

Chapter 124

Chapter 124 You Are Disappointing

It was already late at night.

Josephine kept tossing and turning on the couch, unable to fall asleep. She stared at the clock on the wall, which showed 11 pm. There was a high chance that Lewis wouldn’t return home again that night.

She turned around once more and was about to fall asleep when she heard a noise coming from the level above her.

Josephine raised her head to look at the ceiling above her. She strained to catch any sounds around her, but no sounds reached her ears, so she settled back on the couch.

However, she heard the same noise again. It sounded like someone was trying to push a window open.

Josephine immediately frowned as she got up from the couch and headed toward the staircase, thinking she had forgotten to close a window.

When Josephine arrived at her bedroom, she opened the door and was about to flick on the light switch when a pair of hands suddenly grabbed her wrist.

The silhouette that popped out all of a sudden scared the wits out of Josephine, causing her body to stiffen up immediately. Her first instinct was to open her mouth and scream at the top of her lungs, but her breath seemed to be lodged in her throat. No matter what she did, she could barely emit a sound.

It was the same as before.

A soft chuckle came from the side. “I thought you’d be able to scream.”

That voice was even scarier compared to the sudden pair of hands that gripped Josephine’s wrists.

She worked hard to free herself from the hands immediately, but they maintained a firm grip on her. Josephine gripped the doorframe in return and attempted to flee from the room.

The disparity in their strength was evident, leaving Josephine outmatched against the intruder’s sheer power. The next moment she knew, he had kicked the door shut right before

her.

The room was incredibly dark. Since Josephine couldn’t communicate with the intruder, she could only lean against the door in a state of desperation.

Seth, the intruder, was the one who turned on the lights. His smiling face popped up in front of Josephine’s vision. Clearly, he didn’t care about the fact that he had trespassed into someone’s private property, seeing as his smile was as bright as ever.

Josephine bit her bottom lip, not daring to breathe out loud.

She gestured, “What do you

want?”

Seth pinned her against the door while slamming a palm against the surface next to her ear. Then, he replied smilingly, “It’s been a long time since I last saw you, Josephine. That’s why I popped over for a quick visit.”

Josephine turned her head away. She didn’t believe his ridiculous lies.

She pressed her ear against the door, hoping to hear any sounds or noises coming from the outside. Unfortunately, there was only silence.

“Are you waiting for Lewis to come home?”

Josephine froze on the spot. She heard Seth continuing, “He’s with Sierra right now. Perhaps he’s already asleep after making love to her. If you’re hoping for him to come and rescue you, then I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed.”

The woman tilted her head to look at Seth, whose eyes sparkled as he smiled at her. However, all she saw was danger radiating from him.

“Aren’t you angry at all? What a good doggy.” As the man spoke, he started stroking Josephine’s cheek with his fingers.

She could only bite her bottom lip, already predicting a slap coming her way in the next second.

However, that slap never happened. Instead, Seth continued, “Can you really tolerate this, though? Do you want me to exact revenge on them for you?”

Josephine didn’t want to communicate with that man at all.

She refused to believe that Seth was kind enough to avenge her. Collaborating with him was akin to working with a murderer who would stab her in the back at any given moment.

Besides, Seth was bold enough to infiltrate the mansion in the middle of the night, which meant he definitely had an ulterior motive.

The aforementioned man gripped Josephine’s chin tightly and turned her head back so that she was facing him. At the same time, his gaze fell on the red marks that were present on her cheek. “You disappoint me, Josephine.”

The faint red marks on Josephine’s cheek were remnants of her scars. Now that the scars were no longer visible, the marks resembled two streaks of red lipstick, adding a vibrant touch to her otherwise

pale complexion.

Josephine couldn’t tolerate Seth’s creepy antics anymore. She gestured once again, “What on earth do you want from me?”

A small smile crept upon Seth’s face. “Tell me, what did he say to you?”

Josephine stared back in confusion.

Seth explained patiently, “Was it anything related to the company?”

Josephine’s eyes glittered uneasily. For some reason, she recalled the time when Lewis informed her that he was about to get kicked out of the directors’ board. He would never tell her anything related to the company in the past.

However, he chose to tell her that piece of information.

Her heartbeat accelerated at the thought of a certain possibility. Could it be that Lewis knew that Seth would go after her? Was this another test?

When Seth noticed the subtle change in Josephine’s eyes, he chuckled lightly. “It seems he did mention something along those lines to you before.”

Josephine suppressed the weird feeling as she shook her head in denial.

“You’re not going to say anything, hmm?”

Seth’s fingers slid down from her cheek to her neck. At the same time, his other hand that was previously holding her waist slipped under her nightgown.

As a result, Josephine started struggling against Seth.

However, the latter increased the force of his grip around her neck while pinning her against the door. “Don’t get too agitated. I’m not interested in you.”

Josephine could only stare at Seth in horror.

“I thought about it. Instead of asking you for the answer, I would take a few videos of you and send them to Lewis. Maybe he might give up on his plan.”

A flash of bitterness streaked past Josephine’s eyes.

If Seth thought he could threaten Lewis by using Josephine as leverage, then he thought

wrong.

Before Josephine could finish thinking about it, Seth’s hand that was placed on her waist gave her ribcage a forceful pinch. It hurt so much that she curled into a ball, clearly tormented by the pain.

Tears almost spilled out of her eyes at that moment. Seth tended to aim at the spots that would cause her the most pain. Josephine would be tormented so much that she wished she was dead whenever he did so.

However, Seth loved watching Josephine suffer the most. He felt that crying women looked the most beautiful.

Josephine gripped the man’s hand and tried her best to dislodge it from her waist.

At that moment, she suddenly heard some sounds traveling from outside the bedroom. They were a series of footsteps that came from the stairs. It turned out that someone was walking up the stairs right

now.

The woman widened her eyes in surprise.

Seth stopped pinching Josephine at the same time. His eyes darkened as he raised his head to glance at the door. Even though the door was closed, he looked as though he could see through the sturdy material and see what was happening outside.

Then, he clicked his tongue in displeasure.

Lewis kept a close eye on Josephine, that was for sure.

However, Seth didn’t release Josephine. Someone grabbed the doorknob outside the room and turned it slightly.

Josephine held her breath subconsciously, tears still hanging on her cheeks. She looked very pathetic at that moment.

Her captor leaned in to whisper into her ear, saying, “I wonder what he’ll think once he enters this room and sees us in this position.”

Josephine reacted by clenching her fists. She didn’t know how she was able to summon her strength, but she managed to shove him off her.

The bedroom was already locked, so Lewis couldn’t open the door from the outside.

However, abruptly, he let go of the doorknob, leaving it untouched as he stood outside the door.

Josephine turned back to look at Seth, who was becoming more and more unruly by the second. Then, she turned to look at the door again. She felt like she was stuck between a rock and a hard place. She had no idea if she should open the door right now.

Lewis began pounding on the door loudly the next thing she knew.

The door shook violently under the forceful blows, causing Josephine to recoil and take a step back instinctively. However, a sharp pain radiated from her ribcage in her sudden movement, causing her to lose her balance and collapse onto the ground.

She just stared at the door unblinkingly. The door clattered loudly one last time before it was kicked down with a loud bam.

Josephine clutched the hems of her nightgown as she stared at the man standing at the

doorway in horror. An icy expression was present on his face as though he had absorbed the night’s chilly air before entering the mansion.

Josephine turned her head around stiffly, only to realize that Seth, who was standing behind her earlier, had already disappeared.

Lewis entered the bedroom with deliberate steps, his gaze sweeping over Josephine, thoroughly assessing her from head to toe.

The latter tensed up when she sensed the chilling gaze.

Then, Lewis tore his gaze away from Josephine’s tear-streaked face. It landed on the bedroom window, which was fully open by then. The curtains flapped slightly in the night breeze that graced the room.

Immediately after that, Lewis grabbed Josephine’s wrist and dragged her toward the bathroom without saying anything.

That shocked her greatly.

She remembered Lewis forcefully submerging her in the bathtub the last time he did something like this. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

Josephine stumbled to the bathroom thanks to Lewis’ actions, who then released his hold on her. She was unable to maintain her balance, so she fell to the ground.

Josephine looked up to see the stormy expression on Lewis’ face. As a result, she shrank away from him subconsciously.

Lewis crouched down before her as he stared at her. “Where did he touch you?”

Josephine could only shake her head wildly.

“No?”

She then nodded heavily before reaching out to tug on Lewis’ sleeve. Her eyes pleaded with him to drop the matter.

“What did he say to you?”

Josephine pursed her lips. What did Seth say to her again? She recalled him saying something along the lines of her being a good doggy.

Lewis chuckled softly. “I asked the wrong question. The correct question to ask would be… What have you been telling him?”

Josephine shook her head in response. She gestured, “I didn’t say anything.”

“Is that so?”

She nodded.

Lewis’ fingers caressed her cheek gently, soon wiping away her tears. If she chose to ignore how cold he looked at that moment, she would have thought that he was being extremely

gentle with her.

“I thought you two would be discussing ways to kick me out of the directors’ board as a team.”
