Chapter 123 Some People Are That Stupid
Unfortunately, Lewis no longer believed her.
He pinched her chin and spoke in a low voice. “Let me tell you this. Even when I’m no longer the president of Alvarez Corp, you can never escape from my grasp. Josephine, even if you die, you will die here.”
His words struck the crown of her head like a thunderbolt, leaving her utterly shaken.
Josephine’s entire body tensed. Instinctively, she thought about taking a step back, but her rationality suppressed that instinct.
Lewis touched the tip of her ears and grazed them softly with his fingers. It felt ticklish, the sensation making her flinch.
He removed the earphone from her ears and pocketed them again.
“Stay at home and be good. Lock the doors, don’t go out, or else I’ll really break your leg this
time.”
His gentlest tone delivered the cruelest words.
Josephine gripped the couch, suppressing the fear in her heart, and nodded slightly.
Lewis stood and went upstairs to change his clothes. When he emerged again, he left in a
brown coat.
Josephine watched him leave and ran over to shut the door.
When that was done, she pressed herself against the door, her chest heaving.
The words she’d heard from the earphone earlier reverberated in her mind repeatedly. Lewis was about to leave the Alvarez family. He was about to become nothing.
Josephine closed her eyes, breathing heavily as she forced herself to calm down.
She thought to herself, “No, what he said just now was not true. His expression had been off!”
If he truly was going to be kicked out of the Alvarez family, it was impossible for him to be this collected. This man had to have some kind of backup plan-an even bigger trump card.
Or, he had never cared much about Alvarez Corp anyway. Maybe he had greater cards to play.
There were only these two possibilities.
At the end of the day, he was still testing her, just like how he’d repeatedly asked her if she
wanted children.
No matter how many times he’d asked, she’d always believed him-she’d always fallen for it.
How could she still be so gullible?
Having known Lewis for so long, she still couldn’t tell how many of his words were true.
It was truly laughable-
After Lewis left, he drove straight to the company.
When he arrived, it was already past working hours. There were not many people left in the
company.
He walked directly into Seth’s office.
The door was open, and Seth was still buried in work. Upon hearing Lewis’ knock, he raised hist head and glanced at the door.
“Lewis. You’re here.”
Seth immediately stood up and greeted him. “I thought you were not coming in today.”
Lewis approached him slowly and joined him on the couch.
“Is there anything you’re here for, Lewis?” Seth poured him a cup of coffee.
“I saw that you haven’t left work yet, so I came here to see you.” Lewis’ gaze scanned the room before landing on Seth’s face. “Are you still busy?”
“Yeah, there are a lot of problems I still have to solve. Of course, you wouldn’t know about all these little things in the company.”
A subtle smile tugged at the edges of Lewis’ lips. He folded his legs and leaned back against the couch. “Daphne said you haven’t been home in a while. Don’t you plan on going back?” he asked calmly.
Seth paused before smiling bitterly. “There’s too much to do in the company. I can’t leave yet. I’ll go back when I have the time.”
“Don’t wait for when you have time. Go home now. I’ll give you some time off. Spend some quality time with Daphne.”
Seth’s brows knitted together. “Now?”
“Yes. I’ll have someone settle these matters of yours. The longer you don’t return, the more Daphne will drive herself crazy worrying about you.”
“Oh, yeah?”
Lewis pretended to be surprised as well. “Didn’t she tell you? Don’t you know that she sold all her shares in the corporation?”

Seth’s smile froze before he quickly regained his composure. “Oh. That’s what you mean. Of course, I do know that.”
“What else could it be?”
Seth spoke in a low voice. “I’ll find the time to persuade her.”
“Don’t wait to find the right time anymore. Do it now. If you don’t go back and persuade her, she might as well start setting her sights on father’s shares.”
This time, Seth completely lost his composure. He looked at Lewis in complete bewilderment.
Why would Lewis tell him all this? Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
He was beginning to find it increasingly difficult to understand Lewis’ actions.
Lewis’s smile remained nonchalant throughout their conversation, hiding his real thoughts.
Seth tugged at the corner of his lips, forcing himself to smile again. “I got it. I’ll go now.”
Lewis nodded lightly. “Go, then.”
Seth simply cleared up his desk and left the company soon after. Lewis watched his disappearing figure, the smile playing on his lips deepening.
Seth rushed back to the Alvarez mansion as quickly as possible.
When he returned to the bedroom, he saw Daphne holding Bambam, gently coaxing him. Upon closer inspection, there was no anxiety in her gaze at all.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, Daphne turned, her face a picture of happiness.
“Seth, you’re back!”
Seth hummed in acknowledgment and walked over to her. Seeing the baby in her embrace, he
said, “He’s asleep.”
“Oh, yeah. Yeah, he is.” Daphne quickly placed the baby into the cot and turned back to face Seth. “Why are you back today?”
Seth smiled faintly. “I just remembered what you said about moving a while ago. Have you finished packing?”
Daphne’s eyes welled up with tears as she heard his words. “No, I’ve been waiting for you to come back.”
“Have you found a new place?”
“I did-”
Seth pondered for a moment before speaking again. “Since I have some free time now, how about we move tonight?”
Daphne grabbed his hands suddenly and looked deeply into his eyes. She murmured, “Seth, if- if something happens to me, will you take good care of Bambam?”
Seth’s movements stilled. He looked at Daphne in astonishment.
Could it be that what Lewis had said was true?
Had she been planning on touching Robert’s shares just to fill the gap on his behalf?
your
Seth inhaled deeply. “Daphne, don’t do anything stupid. Bambam has always been under care. Without you, how would I be able to raise him properly? I promise I’ll settle this entire matter myself. Don’t you worry about it. Just stay at home and take good care of Bambam, alright?”
Seth’s voice was soft, his tone as gentle as the spring breeze, but why did someone so gentle carry such ice in his eyes?
Still, hearing his words, tears trickled down Daphne’s cheeks, the resolve in her heart hardening.
She forced a smile. “Alright, I promise. For you and Bambam’s sake, I won’t let anything happen to me.” Daphine’s gaze was filled with determination and her deep affection for Seth.
She thought secretly, “Nothing’s going to go wrong, right?”
Seth observed her smile, his eye twitching.
Daphne was foolish, even more so than an ordinary fool.
Seth knew this more than anyone else. He didn’t need to think to guess her true intentions.
She really was pathetic.
Daphne was still basking in his warmth. She was even slightly hopeful. After all that she’d done for him, would she finally be able to move him?
Seth supposed that some people were that stupid after all. They naively believed that by tugging at the heartstrings of the other person, they could secure their affection.
In reality, it was never the case. Only Daphne herself had been moved by her own actions.
No one else would change their minds just because she’d managed to move herself.
Whether one loved another person or not had always been predetermined by fate.
Seth was smiling on the outside, but his heart was cold.
He wasn’t sure what Lewis wanted him to do, and that feeling alone was deeply unsettling.
The thought crossed his mind that Josephine might know something about it.
Seth’s gaze flickered. He stood up suddenly and said, “Daphne, I need to go out for a while. I’ll
be back later.”
“You’re leaving again? For what?”
Seth patted her head gently, his smile turning somewhat eerie. “I need to go handle some
work.”
