Chapter 49
Cynthia POV
"Why don't you just give up on this guy already, Cynthia? You have been calling him nonstop, and he hasn't answered his phone. What is wrong with you?" Nathan groans angrily as he throws himself on the couch, and I sigh briefly. The past three days have been difficult for me since I couldn't speak with Asher. I have tried to call him several times, but he didn't answer his phone, and I haven't seen him. I have dropped messages for him and pleaded with him to forgive me if he is angry about me saying he should introduce me to his sister earlier, but he never replied to any of my messages.
'I don't do love, Cynthia. Will you be able to handle that?' his words repeat in my head as I throw myself on the couch frustratingly. He warned me beforehand, but I was so blinded that I couldn't even think straight. I thought I would be able to handle it but turns out that I was mistaken. I can't take this one-sided love, no matter how much I try to endure the pain.
"Are you even listening to me at all, Cynthia?" Nathan snaps at me, bringing me back to reality, and I sigh briefly.
"Can't you see he doesn't love you? I mean, who ignores the one they claim to love, huh?" He scoffs, obviously angry.
"Tha... that's not true. Asher loves me. Maybe he has just been busy," I quickly defend him, even though I know deep down that he doesn't have any feelings for me. It hurts, but I love and want to be with him.
"Oh my goodness! What has come over you, Cynthia? You don't even want to see the truth even when it's so obvious," He shakes his head before he stands up and walks away.
Tears well up in my eyes as I bury my head between my palms. Should I break up with him for my mental health? Can I cope without him?
"It doesn't change anything, Cynthia. It's still the same thing. He doesn't even give you attention," My subconscious reminds me, and I gulp down nothing nervously.
The knock on the door pulls my attention, and I snap my head up to look at the closed door. 'Is he the one?' I ask myself as I quickly stand up and advance toward the door, but my face drops disappointedly when I pull the door open and find Alex standing there.
"Cyn..." I slam the door in his face without allowing him to finish whatever shit he wants to say. What the hell! Who gave him my address, and what is he doing here at my doorstep?
"Can you please let me in and let's talk, please?" He yells from outside as he bangs on the door, and I feel like screaming my lungs out. He came at the wrong time, and I won't hesitate to lash out at him if he doesn't leave this minute. "What do you want? Wait a minute! How the hell did you get my address?" I snap at him once I pull the door open, but he sighs briefly.
"Uhm... Can you let me in so we can talk?" He asks politely, and I scoff.
"Are you kidding? Let you into my house? For what? I am not in the mood for that, so get the hell out of my house, and never show your face to me, ever again," I snap at him before I slam the door hard, and head to my room afterward. Shit! Why the hell is my life getting so complicated lately? I think I'm going to pass out.
Since I took a day off work today, I have my bath and get dressed, before I leave the house. I want to go check on Adelie, and maybe use the opportunity to see Asher. I have really missed him so much.
As I walk out of the house, I stop on my track when I see a familiar car parked at the side of the road, and I squint my eyes to be sure that I'm not dreaming. I can never mistake Asher's car for anyone's.
The door finally opens, and he steps out of the car, finally clearing my confusion. Seeing him adorned in the black dress as usual, I feel my heart flutter especially when he smiles at me, but recalling that this man hurt me, I quickly comport myself before I walk over to him.
"I didn't know you still know your way here," I sigh once I stop in front of him.
"I'm sorry, baby..."
"Why have you been ignoring my calls? Are you seeing another woman?" I ask him, and he shrugs.
"Maybe," His reply hurts me a lot, and I scoff.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
"Good luck then," I reply to him, ready to leave.
"I'm just kidding. Get inside the car. I will take you to wherever you want to go," He offers as he pulls the car door open for me, and I scoff.
"You think it's fine to show up and offer to take me out after ignoring me? When was the last time we talked or even see each other? You ignored me, and..."
"I just told you I'm sorry," He cuts me off sarcastically like this is not a big deal.
"Thank you. I'm not interested. I'll just take the cab," I turn him down, but deep inside me, I want him to beg me and convince me to enter his car. I'm not mad at him, but I have to pretend to.
"Should I carry you in, huh?" He suddenly hold my hands and pull me back, landing me on his hard chest. My heart skips, and I gulp down nothing as I suddenly become nervous. My heart beats rapidly against my chest, and I gulp down another lump that forms in my throat.
"Hmm," I quickly pull away from him and hop inside the car.
"By the way... You look sexy this morning," He winks at me once he steps inside the car, and I gulp down nothing...
