Chapter 48
Rhea POV
"Are you kidding me?" I shriek after Raymond released the shock to me. He told me that the female victim was his girlfriend in the past. This is crazy. "I'm not," He shrugs, and I scoff.
"Why didn't you tell me this all these while?" I ask him, and he rubs his forehead.
"Nothing, I just feel..."
"And you think it was ok not to tell me? Why did you do that?" I ask him angrily, and he sighs.
"We broke up long ago, so I didn't see the reason I should..."
"Are you kidding me, Ray? Do you even know the situation at hand now? Who knows, maybe I could've gotten some information from you that will help in the investigation," I cut him off.
"What information could you possibly get from me? We dated in college and broke up during the last year in school, and I haven't seen her since then, until some weeks ago at Alex's birthday party," He shrugs, and I sigh briefly. He's right, I can't get any information from him.
"I need to get back to work. I'll talk to you later," I utter as I stand up.
"You've not touched your food," He reminds me, pointing to the food on the table. We went out to have breakfast in the restaurant close to his company.
"I don't have an appetite to eat," I reply to him
"Come on, Rhea. You are going to lose weight, and probably fall sick if you continue like this. Can you please eat something? Mom is really going to be worried about you if she finds out about this," He tries to convince me. "That's why you shouldn't tell her about it. I will be on my way now..."
"Do you know that mom is going to be discharged today? She will feel sad if you're not there with her," He reminds me, and I sigh deeply.
"I will try to come by the hospital during lunchtime. I should have some minutes to spare then," And with that, I walk briskly out of the restaurant, and head to my car. I zoom off afterward.
The drive to the station didn't take me much time before I arrived in less than ten minutes, and I walk briskly to my office. As I walk in, I stop on my track when I spot a familiar young man sitting in the office with his legs crossed. He's the same man that I snatched his car two days ago. What is he doing here?
"Here you are, lieutenant Rhea," Sergeant James says as soon as he spots me, and the young man turns to face me. A thin appears between his eyebrows as he stares at me, maybe trying to recall where he knows me from.
"Yes, Sir," Turning my gaze away from him, I reply to sergeant James.
"You should attend to the man. I need to be somewhere urgent," He says to me before he stands up and strides out of the office, not even waiting for me to say something.
"Why are you here?" I ask the young man as I walk over to my seat and make myself comfortable on it. It's only the two of us in the office, since my other team members went out on either patrol or maybe on an investigation, I don't know. "They said that I violated the traffic rules," He shrugs sarcastically like what he just said isn't a big deal.
"Did you, or was it an accusation?" I ask him after I take out the file to scribble down his statement.
"I was in a hurry to get somewhere, how could I have known if I violated the traffic rules?" He shrugs again as he rolls his eyes, and I sigh briefly.
"What's your name?" I ask him.
"Asher..."
"With your surname," I cut him off as I raise my gaze to look at him, but I find him staring at me instead.

"Williams... Asher Williams," He replies to me, and I squint my eyebrows as I stop to think about the name he just called. It sounds familiar.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
"Asher... Asher... Wait, are you related to Adelie?" I stop to ask him, because I remember Ray's girlfriend told me her brother's name was Asher, and this can't just be a coincidence, considering their surname being the same.
"Yes, she is my sister," He replies to me, and I can't help the 'wow' that escapes my lips, because why not. I have always asked to meet her brother because I wanted to just see him, and I've met him like two times without knowing that he's the one I've been wanting to meet.
"Wow! I thought as much," I mutter.
"How did you know my sister?" He asks, a bit confused.
"I'm her boyfriend's sister," I reply to him, and he raises his eyebrows. I'm sure he must be surprised. What a small world.
"You shouldn't have said that, anyway," He scoffs, and I narrow my eyes.
"Excuse me?"
"I don't really like your brother and my sister being together, and I'm still planning to break them apart," His words make me shocked.
"Why?" I find myself asking him, but he sighs as he crosses his arms on his chest.
"Because I'm the only one that can love her the way she deserves, and she also loves more than any other man, even more than your brother. You can ask her that," He explains to me, and I scoff.
"That's a normal thing. I mean, you are her brother, and it's only right that you two love each other more than outsiders does, so I don't think that's enough reason you should hate my brother, or want them to break up," I reply to him honestly. "Am I free to leave now?" He suddenly asks.
"I'm not done yet," I reply to him.
The rest of the interrogation went smoothly, and I finally free him to leave, not after warming him to be careful next time so he won't have to show up here again.
"Can we have lunch together? You still haven't made it up to me about last time," He asks once he's about to leave.
"I'm sorry, but I don't have the time..."
"I will pick you up on Sunday. Make sure you don't keep me waiting," He says before he finally strides out of my office, and I sigh briefly.
"Are you ok?" Lieutenant Dave's voice brings me back to reality, and I tilt my head to see him sitting beside me in his seat.
"When did you get here?" I ask him.
"Just now. You don't look fine. Is it because of what happened?" He inquires, and I smile at him forcefully.
"No, I'm fine," I shake my head, and he shrugs after he stares at me for seconds, not looking quite convinced.
"Alright. Have you eaten something yet?" He inquires, and just then, my stomach grumbles in response to his question. I haven't really been eating good food ever since I started working here because of my busy schedule. I barely even have time to have my bath because of one investigation or the other, but this murder case has been the major case.
"Do you want to eat out?" He inquires, but I shake my head.
"I'm fine. I will..."
"Don't worry, I will get you the food," He cuts me off before he stands up and strides out of the office, and I sigh briefly. Dave has been nice to me since I started working here, and he has been my guidance here since he started before me. Although we haven't known each other for long, the little time I have spent with him, he already proved to me that he is a good friend.
Pushing all the thoughts to the back of my mind, I pick up the file on the table and open it to the page where I kept a pen. 'Asher Williams' staring at his details, I sigh briefly as the thought of what he said rings in my head. He looked dead serious about it, the expression on his face meant another thing, but I can't seem to figure out what exactly it was.
"Is there something he's hiding?" I ask myself as I close the file and recline on the chair while staring into space...
