Twisted Ties of Love

Chapter 88

Chapter 88

This was nothing like what she had in mind. Kaley was getting anxious. On one hand, she wished Brett would come back already, on the other hand, she couldn't help but want to shove Izabella down the stairs.

Pregnant women are very vulnerable, and a fall down the stairs would surely end her life on the spot.

This evil thought kept piling up in her heart, getting heavier and heavier.

Just then, they heard the sound of a car engine outside. Izabella was surprised, wondering why Brett was back so early today.

With him back, she wouldn't be able to go to the orphanage as planned. Izabella felt a wave of disappointment, followed by a sense of unease.

But she's always been quick to accept the reality. She was about to turn around and head back to her bedroom, not wanting to bother with Kaley, when her wrist was suddenly grabbed.

Izabella turned her head and saw Kaley glaring at her, eyes deep and vicious like a poisonous snake.

"Kaley, stop bothering me." Izabella knew this woman's nature was impure. She may seem like a timid rabbit, but no one knows what evil schemes she's plotting deep down.

Having Kaley come closer could only mean trouble. They usually kept their distance, not interfering with each other's lives. But now, with Kaley getting up close and personal, Izabella's heart raced with fear. She had to be extra careful being pregnant now, with plans to abort in just a few days.

Arguing on the stairs was risky enough, and Kaley was clearly up to no good. Their entanglement could easily lead to a nasty fall.

By that time, Brett had already entered the house. Izabella tried to back away, but Kaley's grip on her wrist tightened. To her surprise, she couldn't break free.

Kaley suddenly leaned in close to Izabella's ear, her voice menacing. "Izabella, nobody knows about the baby yet, do they?"

Before she could think about what that implied, Izabella saw a flash in Kaley's eyes. The next thing she knew, Kaley was pulling her backwards.

With quick reflexes, Izabella managed to grab the stair railing. Kaley, on the other hand, released her grip and lost her balance, tumbling down the stairs.

"Kaley!"

Following the sound, Izabella saw Brett, looking gloomy, entering from outside. He hurried over to Kaley, picking her up from the floor.

From her position upstairs, Izabella couldn't see Kaley's condition clearly. But she could see Brett's face, dark and mad, his fierce gaze sending shivers down her spine.

Turns out, she had underestimated Kaley's ruthlessness. But then again, considering she had once staged a car accident and overdosed on sleeping pills, perhaps fear was no longer a factor for her.

Her eyes shifted to the surveillance monitor behind her. With surveillance cameras around, Brett couldn't just accuse her without basis.

However, she couldn't be sure. After all, when Kaley had pretended to be suicidal, Brett immediately pinned the blame on her without even investigating.

This morning, Brett had promised Kaley he'd be back at noon, but he never thought he'd witness Izabella pushing Kaley down the stairs upon his return.

He carefully examined Kaley, finding no serious injuries apart from a few bruises. Still, falling from such a height could easily result in fractures. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

"What happened?"

Kaley leaned into Brett's arms, tears welling up in her eyes but not falling. She looked pitiful.

She glanced fearfully at Izabella, hesitating before saying, "It was my fault. I slipped and fell down the stairs. It has nothing to do with Izabella. Don't overthink it."

As if on instinct, Brett glared at Izabella with a dark expression. "You push her?"

This was not a question, but an accusation. Just as she feared. Izabella felt a mix of anger and sadness, though her face showed a taunting smile. "Brett, didn't you hear her say she slipped and fell on her own? What does that have to do with me?"

Kaley sobbed softly into Brett's chest, looking like she was enduring her grievances. Brett felt his patience being worn thin.

Trista was right there too. Brett asked, "Trista, did you see anything?"

Trista kept her head down, "I was in the dining room and didn't see anything. But I did hear Ms. Salotti insulting Ms. Cornett."

Brett's eyes grew colder, he scoffed, "And what did she say?"

Trista's face twisted in embarrassment, her lips trembling, clearly hesitant.

Brett couldn't hold back his anger any longer, his voice low, "Tell me."

With her head still bowed, Trista spoke respectfully, "Ms. Salotti said as long as she holds Ms. Windham's position, Ms. Cornett will always remain a mistress and never get a chance..."
