"What bad timing!"

Mateo's indifferent voice came from behind Amber.

Amber turned around and saw Mateo with a team of armed soldiers. Terrified, she quickly put some distance between her and Liam.

She stammered an explanation. "Matt... It's not what you think. Liam and I came here to look for people. Ms. Everheart and Ms. Osborne are gone. Liam couldn't find them and guessed they might be in the orchard. He wasn't familiar with the orchard and asked me to guide him."

Mateo looked livid, but still cracked a gentle smile. "Silly, you don't have to be scared. I know you're prudent. He must have forced you to come here. I don't blame you."

He extended his hand and beckoned Amber toward him. 'Come here. You're my fiancee. You should stand with me."

"I..." Amber bit her lip Mateo was right. She kept her head low, about to walk to him.

But in the next second, Liam firmly grabbed her wrist. "You can't go!"

Liam held Amber's wrist tightly and shot Mateo a challenging look.

When did Amber become your fiancee? I don't know anything about that."

"What do you mean?" Mateo grashed his teeth, revealing a ferocious expression Amber had never seen in him. 'Don't tell me you want to snatch away my woman? Do you think you're very safe in this fort and that no one dares to harm you?"

"She's never yours. You can't say that about me," Liam retorted.

Liam was full of disdain and wasn't afraid of angering Mateo. He yearned to make Mateo show his true self so Amber could see his true colors. That way, she wouldn't foolishly marry such a hypocritical and wicked man.

"Liam, don't push your luck!" Mateo snarled.

He had long been driven mad by his jealousy toward Liam. He was jealous of Liam's outstanding capabilities and that Benjamin valued the latter. He was also jealous of how Liam had gained Amber's heart.

Plus, Liam had arrogantly humiliated him in front of Amber and his subordinates. The man had no respect for him at all.

Mateo grabbed the chance and took out the gun from his waist to show his authority in front of his subordinates and seize Amber back. He aimed the gun at Liam's head.

"I'll shoot you, and I won't have to pay a price for it! Do you believe me?"

Liam looked calm and didn't even bother to dodge. He cracked a mocking sneer.

"I'm sure you can do that because you've long wanted to do that. Before, you held yourself back because I was Benjamin's future son-in-law. You couldn't act recklessly," he said. "But now, you thought you had successfully replaced me. So, you exposed your true colors and didn't care about my life. Am I right?"
