Chapter 270 Can You Wait for Me?

For over a week since Ranita disappeared, the physical torture she endured was not the main concern. What worried people more was her mental state.

Ranita looked the same as before.

But according to the report given by her psychologist, Ranita's mental condition wasn't as healthy as it appeared on the surface. Apart from writing in her journal, she hadn't confided in anyone about its contents, which wasn't good at all.

Because it was hidden inside her heart, Ranita had nightmares every night.

"Thank you for your cooperation Mr. Stuart. If you have any questions please contact me!"

The phone hung up but Ranita's thoughts were still muddled. Did Brendon suddenly change his mind about getting a divorce because he didn't want to upset her?

Her heart felt sour.

Ranita didn't open her eyes; she was afraid that Brendon wouldn't be able to explain himself clearly or that he would explain too much.

"Ranita, wake up! We're here!" A pair of warm hands gently shook her arm and Ranita yawned and opened her eyes to meet Brendon's dark eyes.

Perhaps love is blind because she thought that Brendon had the best eyes in the world - narrow but not small with stars and oceans hidden within them.

"Hmm?" The man tilted his head quizzically at Ranita. "What's wrong? Are you feeling uncomfortable somewhere?"

Ranita shook her head no.

Brendon carried their luggage while holding onto one of Ranita's arms leading them forward slowly this time instead of his usual fast pace accommodating for hers.

Brendon's accommodation surprised Ranita; he was accommodating her more than she expected.

In that moment, she thought, "Let it be like this! Don't worry about the reasons, as long as I'm by his side."

After settling in, Brendon went to meet a friend, and Ranita, not in the mood to go out, nibbled on something and nestled into the sofa. She had work to do, especially the job she had promised to discuss with Chris. Her inbox was filled with unread emails. Just as she finished sorting them out, Vincent called her.

"Hey Ranita," said Vincent after pausing. "Do you have time today? I'd like to take you out."

"Sorry I'm not in town right now," replied Ranita pursing lips before asking. "When are you going over the Stuart's Corp?"

"Next week probably," answered Vincent hesitantly. "I've been pretty busy these days."

After several seconds of silence, Vincent asked, "Is Brenden... the person who you like?"

Was it already so obvious?

Ranita pinched her fingers and softly muttered a vague "Hmm." She didn't know what else to say, and there was a bit of an awkward silence.

"Okay, I got it," said Vincent with a soft chuckle.

Vincent's relaxed attitude made Ranita breathe a sigh of relief.

"We're both from Kurima Foreign Studies University, so if you need any help in the future, just let me know. Even if we can't be lovers or partners, we can still be friends!" Vincent paused and explained further to avoid awkwardness.

"After all, we've never been together before, so there's no love or hate between us."

Ranita truly admired Vincent for his transparency and ease of mind. It was something that many people couldn't achieve even if they tried.

"You're right! I'm staying at Boatleigh Manor right now and I heard their red wine is great. I'll bring you back some souvenirs," said Ranita as she mentioned the wine.

Vincent replied with a smile on his face, "Don't forget to bring some for Professor too. He loves it."

Ranita chuckled softly and agreed, "You're absolutely right! If I only give one to you but not him, he'll nag me about it for years!"

As they were talking, someone knocked on the door.

Ranita hurriedly put on her slippers and opened the door to see Brendon's handsome yet cold face staring back at her.

"Ranita, something urgent came up and I have to leave now. Can you wait here for me?" asked Brendon while his phone screen was still lit up with an ongoing call.
