Chapter 347
Chapter 347
Amanda was considerate and honest, the kind that anyone would be thankful to have as a mother-in-
law.
Cordelia wished she could feel grateful, but every time she looked at Olen, she was reminded of her
own mother. If Shelly were still alive, Cordelia wouldn't feel so alone, and things wouldn't have gotten to
this point.
"What are you two doing here?" A stern voice echoed from upstairs, it was Ronan.
Cordelia turned back to see Ronan's lips tightly shut.
He was furious.
"Ronan, your father and I found out you had a child. We just had to come and see," Amanda pleaded,
looking at Ronan with pitiful eyes. "Where is the baby?"
"The baby is asleep. You two should rest in your rooms." Ronan then turned towards Cordelia. "You
should go upstairs."
Cordelia didn't utter a word.
Once upstairs, she could hear the faint whispers coming from downstairs.
When Ronan finally joined her in bed, Cordelia snuggled into his arms, seeking the comfort she so
desperately needed. However, she couldn't ignore the fact that Olen was the culprit behind Shelly's
ordeal, and Ronan had covered it up for him.
The thought made her uncomfortable. Just as she was about to pull away from Ronan, he tightened his
grip on her.
"I didn't invite them!" Ronan growled at Cordelia.
"I know! What did I say?" Cordelia shot back, looking straight into his eyes.
Ronan had an assertive gaze, as if there was nothing in the world he couldn't handle. And indeed, he
was capable of handling a lot of things, but he couldn't resolve the conflict in Cordelia's heart.
That night, Cordelia wanted to distance herself from Ronan, but he held on to her, not letting go.
She wanted to ask Olen and Amanda when they were planning to leave since their presence made her
uncomfortable. However, Amanda was a good mother-in-law who had done nothing wrong. They had
just arrived, and inquiring about their departure would be too harsh on Ronan.
So, Cordelia kept her thoughts to herself.
The next morning, before she could even fully wake up, Amanda was at the door.
"Cordelia, I made you some soup. Try it," Amanda said, catering to Cordelia's every need.
"Thank you, Mom," Cordelia responded, picking up the bowl to take a sip.
Ever since Olen's arrival, Cordelia had spent her days upstairs, away from her child.
Amanda's constant attention made her anxious, it was suffocating. She felt guilty for treating Olen the
way she did.
A week passed, and there was no sign of Olen and Amanda leaving. They seemed to have settled in
for a long stay.
One day, Amanda tripped on the stairs while bringing Cordelia soup, scalding her wrist, and breaking
open a wound on her forehead. However, she kept reassuring Cordelia that it was alright, and that it
was just a minor accident.
Cordelia knew Amanda was trying to make amends. The greater the sin Olen had committed, the more
she tried to compensate. It was as if she had willingly accepted the burden of a scapegoat.
Cordelia's uneasiness grew, so did her torment.

Even though Cordelia felt emotionally blackmailed by Amanda, she didn't resist, did she?
Moreover, the couple was careful to follow the rules of the house, and never touched the baby without
Cordelia's permission. Even if Cordelia felt uncomfortable, she couldn't find any reason to vent her
frustrations.
They were Ronan's parents, and Ronan couldn't find any valid reason to be angry at them.
Feeling trapped and frustrated, Cordelia wished for someone to visit.
Thankfully, Brenda came one day, bringing with her Cordelia's favorite food and games. She even
invited her for a day out shopping.
Cordelia was more than happy to accept.
