The CEO’s Hidden Love Midnight Temptations and Deep Desires

Chapter 1498

Time seemed to freeze, neither of them shifting their gaze.

After what felt like an eternity, so long that Felicity started to feel a dull ache in her lower back, Miles finally spoke.

"What does it mean, not to settle?"

"It's the same question, Langston. Do you love me? Not the kind of love that comes from growing up together, where you protect me out of a sense of duty. I'm talking about romantic love." She knew all too well that she meant something to Miles.

He cared about her, would even risk everything to keep her safe!

But...

That wasn't love.

Clearly, Miles couldn't see the difference.

She forced a laugh, trying to lighten the mood. "Alright, you better get going. I can make my way back to the K&J Mansion on my own."

Felicity nudged him, but he didn't budge.

"I admit, I don't quite understand what you mean, but if you teach me, I can learn."

"Teach you what? How to love me?"

"Yeah."

Felicity sighed, resigned. "There's no need! Langston, I really don't want to marry you."

He finally stepped back.

Seizing the moment, she tried to walk away, limping slightly.

Miles's lips formed a thin line as he followed her, supporting her slender arm. "What if I insist on marrying you?"

He had another option.

All he had to do was tell Mr. Turner and Aunt Karen about what happened back then and last night, and the marriage would likely be set.

But Miles didn't want to coerce her using such private matters!

It was disrespectful.

Plus, it could very well backfire.

After all... Felicity was no ordinary person.

"I don't agree. Are you planning to elope? Watch out, Ms. Sanchez might just kill you!"

She tried to break free and walk ahead on her own.

But Miles wouldn't let go.

They were at an impasse, as if a wall stood between them!

He didn't know how to bridge the gap, and she refused to come closer.

"Langston..."

"Explain it to me."

Felicity closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and looked up at him. "If you had visited me just once during my first year in Anglonia, you wouldn't even need to propose-I would have proposed to you!"

"Over these five years, I've gradually let go of this idea, and now you're talking about marrying me. How could I possibly agree?" Miles's lips moved slightly.

He hadn't realized the crux of the issue lay here.

"At that time, I thought-"

"You thought I was too young, too

naive, right? If I'm not mistaken, when you called me, wanting to reach out, it was mainly out of a sense of responsibility."

He frowned deeply. "That night was your first time; I should be responsible for you."

"In your world, it's all about 'should! Does that mean if you had been with Esther, or anyone else, for that matter, you 'should' marry them?"

"I'm only twenty-three, in the prime

of my life! Langston, I'm holding out for love, insisting that my marriage is based on mutual affection! So, won't marry you, no matter how many times you ask, I won't." She shrugged, spreading her hands. "And as for you, I was smitten, sure, consider it my first love! But five years have passed, and I've moved on." Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

Felicity hadn't stopped trying to fall back in love with him.

But after spending the night together again, she was even more convinced that it was time to let the past be the past.
