Chapter 430

Millie was heartbroken as she looked through the photos of her and Winston’s life throughout the years. The pain intensified as she reflected on the divorce certificate she had received earlier that day.

She felt even more powerless.

She randomly clicked on a photo, and it was one she secretly took of Winston. In the high school photos, they appeared genuinely casual and seemed to share a close relationship.

It was evident from the photos that Millie often looked at Winston, and reciprocally, he would also look at her.

However, when they went to university and she followed Winston’s path, his attitude toward her changed significantly. The previous playful and relaxed look turned into a cold and hostile expression when he looked at her.

Millie was irritated, and she closed the photo folder. She then deleted all the photos without hesitation. As the computer screen cleared, it felt as though she had erased every single memory of Winston from her mind.

Millie lay on the table and closed her eyes. Listening to the rain hitting the window, she eventually fell asleep.

Once again, Millie found herself lost in a nightmare. In it, Winston lay lifeless before her, drenched in blood, unresponsive to her desperate pleas.

She woke up panicked and found it was already 10:00 am. She had a text from Hazel. “You’re late for work, Dr. Caldwell. There’s an important meeting today. Why haven’t you arrived yet? Please answer the phone!”

Millie was left speechless. She had silenced her phone and was so deeply asleep, lost in a nightmare. Hence, she missed the text. Instantly, Millie freshened up and changed her clothes.

Afterward, she made her way downstairs, finding the living room empty. Only the divorce certificate remained on the table.

Millie approached the table and picked it up. As she gazed at the certificate again, a wave of emptiness washed over her. Nevertheless, she quickly regained her composure and put it away.

Millie arrived at the hospital at 11:30 am, right near lunchtime. She kept apologizing to Lainey, explaining that she was not feeling well. To her surprise, Lainey didn’t scold her and simply told her to take care of herself.

Millie sat alone on the rooftop, enjoying the view. She realized that this job was not right for her. She wanted to quit working at the hospital, but she worried it would disappoint Layla.

However, Millie truly didn’t want to stay there anymore. This job was not where she belonged, and she sighed.

“Dr. Caldwell.” NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.

She heard someone call out her name, and she turned. It was Hazel.

Hazel approached her with a warm smile and asked, “What are you doing here? Have you had lunch yet?”

Millie nodded,

Hazel sat beside Millie, eagerly sharing the latest gossip with her. “They’re going to announce the candidate for deputy chief of our department soon.”

When it came to choosing a candidate for deputy chief, Millie immediately thought of Vanessa. She believed there was no one more suitable for the role than her.

“Dr. Caldwell, let me tell you a secret, Actually, everyone thinks you have the potential,” whispered Hazel.

Millie was stunned, pondering the meaning behind her words.

“I have a hunch that they might not appoint anyone as deputy chief this time,” she added.

Millie was still puzzled.

Realizing her confusion, Hazel explained, “They’ll probably keep the position vacant for two years, and once you’ve completed thorough training, you’ll be directly promoted.”

Millie became even more perplexed. “So, what about Dr. Xander?”

“I’m not sure. Dr. Xander is skilled, but when considering all aspects, there might still be room for improvement,” Hazel commented, spreading her hands.

Millie gazed into the distance, feeling a surge of conviction. It was time for her to leave.
