The next day, news about Winston and Joanna’s engagement spread like wildfire.
Upon seeing the news, Terrence felt his head throb with anger. “That jerk!”
“Why are you so upset? I’m not even bothered.” Millie lounged on the couch, leisurely munching on a bag of chips.
Terrence lightly tapped Millie’s head and remarked, “You should take things more seriously!”
He then asked, “How many days until your divorce is finalized?”
Millie checked her phone and answered, “The day before the cruise party.”
“Well, isn’t that great? You’ll be able to have fun at the party then!” Terrence slapped his thigh in excitement.
Millie chuckled but said nothing. After that, she tapped open Marvin’s message.
It had been days since she started searching for the Aspher for Arthur, yet there was still no news about it. Could it be that it was no longer in Musbane?
“By the way, how’s Grandma’s research on SH2N coming along?” asked Millie.
SH2N was a drug being developed for brain–dead patients and those in a vegetative state. Ten years ago, Layla had put together a team for the research.
Ever since then, Layla poured her heart and everything she had into it. Unfortunately, the progress had been painfully slow.
“How much has been invested so far?” Millie asked, glancing at Terrence.
“When your grandfather was still in charge, he invested one billion dollars.” Terrence chuckled wryly and added, “After I took over the company, I added another 200 million dollars.”
“One billion dollars? Grandpa really knows how to spoil Grandma!” Millie rested her chin on her hand. She couldn’t help feeling envious of Layla.
Terrence shook his head and sighed. “A billion is nothing! You have no idea how much trouble your grandma caused your grandpa in their younger days. It’s impossible to count. All I can say is, research. like this burns through money like crazy!”
Millie lowered her head, feeling nothing but admiration. Finding a partner who genuinely loved you and offered emotional stability was truly hard.
As Millie scrolled through her phone, she saw messages from her colleagues.
One wrote, “Mr. Greer agreed to marry Joanna last night, and today, the Greer family visited her at the hospital. Do you think they’re really going to tie the knot?”
Another colleague asked, “Is Mr. Greer’s divorce finalized?” This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Someone else replied, “Come on, can’t you see whats going on? Joanna was clearly forcing him into
marriage last night.”
“But you can’t pressure someone into marriage if there’s no love involved. If Winston doesn’t have feelings for Joanna, her well–being is none of his concern.”
“With so many people from the Lowell family there, what else could Mr. Greer do?”
Soon, a new profile picture appeared in the chat.
They wrote, “Mr. Greer came with Ms. Lowell for a check–up today. She’s been diagnosed with depression.”
The first colleague wrote back, “A heiress like her is depressed? If I were Joanna, I’d just enjoy my life. There’s no way I’ll get depression. There’s nothing money can’t fix.”
Before long, the hospital director chimed in.
Sebastian: “Don’t you all have work to do? This is the official group chat, not a place for gossip.”
At the hospital, Sebastian set down his phone and looked at Winston, who was sitting across from him. He wiped the sweat from his forehead before letting out a sigh.
“Mr. Greer, I’ll arrange for the best psychologist to examine Ms. Lowell. But most importantly, she has to cooperate. If she doesn’t have the will to live, even the best expert can’t help her. Don’t you agree?”
Winston hummed in agreement. “You’re right, Dr. Lloyd. What do you need me to do?”
“Just try to make Ms. Lowell happy. Mr. Greer, sometimes nothing works better than the comfort of someone she loves. It’ll be more effective than the strongest medication,” Sebastian responded.
Right then, the office door was pushed open. Eli stood in the doorway and announced, “Mr. Greer, Mrs. Greer has come to visit Ms. Lowell.”
Winston frowned upon hearing that. Joanna was in such a fragile state, so why would his mother come?
He immediately hurried downstairs. Initially, he had thought that Gloria would get into an argument with Joanna. But to Winston’s surprise, the ward was exceptionally peaceful, devoid of any signs of conflict.
