Winston was about to explain further, but Selma came rushing into the ward. “What happened? Why didn’t you inform me about the incident? I only found out through the news. Are you injured?”
Selma was a bit flustered, with sweat on her forehead,
Gloria frowned as she looked at Winston, wondering what he was going to say.
“Gloria, you didn’t even tell me Win was injured. You should have let me know.” Selma nudged Gloria’s
arm.
Gloria was abruptly pulled back to reality. She replied apologetically, “Mom, I’m afraid it’ll make you worry.”
“Is he okay?” Selma pointed at Winston, her tone even more flustered, as if she had something else to
attend to. Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Gloria nodded. “He’s totally fine.”
“Then I’ll go see Millie,” she said as she turned.
Winston frowned. “Whose grandmother are you?”
Selma glared at him. “I’m Millie’s grandmother, your step–grandmother. You’re just an ungrateful grandson.
Н
Winston was rendered speechless.
Gloria chuckled and shook her head as she watched Selma leave. Then, she turned her attention back to Winston. “So, what were you trying to say?”
Winston hesitated, thinking that Joanna didn’t even mention saving him when Gloria mistreated her. Hence, he shook his head and replied, “Nothing.”
“So mysterious!” Gloria also walked out.
Winston asked, “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to see Millie.”
Winston smiled speechlessly and softly inquired, “Madam Gloria, are you my mother or Millie’s mother?” “Hmph!” Gloria didn’t answer, looking rather indignant.
The ward fell into silence. Winston leaned against the bedside. His thoughts were fixated on the image of Millie’s bloodshot eyes and her desperate declaration of not needing his help.
He felt complicated as he felt a strong rejection from her. Winston closed his eyes, feeling overwhelmed and uneasy. What should he do with Millie?
Selma held Millie’s hand, her face etched with concern. “Don’t overthink. Focus on resting and taking care of yourself. Just let me know what you’re craving, and I’ll cook it for you, alright?”
Millie smiled gently and nodded in response, deliberately maintaining a sense of distance.
Selma remained silent after sensing Millie’s growing indifference. Then, she patted her shoulder and said, “Have a good rest, Mills.”
After that, she stood up and left.
Gloria and Millie exchanged a glance. Millie nodded, signaling Gloria to go and talk to Selma.
“Let me know if you need anything,” said Gloria gently.
Millie hummed in response and sent the two away.
Selma stood in front of the window of the corridor, gazing at the brightly lit city outside. She sighed softly and said, “Mills is such a kind person. But this time, we truly lost her.”
Gloria remained silent, looking at the view with Selma.
Selma stated calmly, “I can no longer force her to stay with the Greer family.”
“Mom, let Millie go free.” Gloria gently grasped Selma’s shoulders. They had to accept it. If they truly
loved Millie, then they should allow her to be free and find happiness in her own way.
“Even though Mills is no longer Winston’s wife, we can still treat her as our daughter,” Gloria reassured her.
Selma sighed and nodded. Then she inquired, “What are your thoughts on Joanna?”
She wondered whether Gloria would allow Winston to marry Joanna and welcome her into the family.
“Joanna could never marry Winston!” Gloria exclaimed confidently.
