Chapter 742
Lizetta had barely left Zion City when Remington discovered the identity of the mysterious woman who had scuffled with Hogan in the hospital parking lot. To his shock, the woman turned out to be Dr. Karen, an OBGYN at Dashiell Memorial Hospital-the very doctor who had attended to Lizetta that fateful night.
Remington suspected that Hogan had bribed Dr. Karen to interfere, which ultimately led to Daisy's tragic demise. Unfortunately, Karen had vanished without a trace, and Hogan, in his attempt to flee Zion City, found himself cornered by the police and the Dashiell family. In a dramatic turn of events, his car crashed through a bridge railing and plummeted into the river below. When the car was retrieved, Hogan was nowhere to be found, his fate unknown.
Upon hearing the news, Remington shot Cedric a frosty look, his gaze alone silencing any retort Cedric might have had. "You better not jump the gun or spread rumors!"Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
Intimidated, Cedric covered his mouth with his hand, not daring to speak further. Remington then turned away, his gaze lost in thought.
Lizetta had started to move on from the ordeal, and he had no intention of stirring up more turmoil for her by revealing that Hogan's actions, driven by a desire to possess her, had led to Daisy's demise. Knowing Lizetta, she would blame herself even more, and that was the last thing Remington wanted. Besides, the investigation had hit a dead end with Karen and Hogan's disappearance.
Meanwhile, in the car, Lizetta was on the phone with Yolanda, chatting away as Jerome drove slowly towards an intersection, glancing at her. "Why are you with him?"
Lizetta looked up from her phone, explaining casually, "Just ran into him at the club, and he insisted on helping. Why not take advantage of that?"
Her tone was light, seemingly indifferent, as if she was truly immune to Remington's charms. Jerome, however, knew better. She wasn't as carefree as she claimed. Every time Lizetta lied, her blink rate would increase noticeably.
He tensed his grip on the steering wheel but didn't call her out, simply responding, "That's good to hear. Grandpa and Grandma were worried sick about you getting hurt again in Zion City. I promised to look after you, don't make me look bad."
Lizetta laughed, "I won't, bro..."
She was about to call him brother,
but suddenly, the image of Remington hurt and possessive the car, along with his
words flashed before her eyes. Memories of her brother, long
suppressed, seemed to break free,
causing her to falter.
With a frown, Lizetta quickly looked away, hastily changing the subject, "Yoli's been unreachable, I'm really worried. Can you help me find her?”
Jerome noticed the unfinished
address and the sudden shift in conversation, realizing how quickly Remington had overshadowed the rapport he had been building with Lizetta over months.
With a sigh masked by a smile, he reassured her, "Don't worry, I've checked. Ms. Yolanda's already back at Maple Cottage."
Lizetta was startled, "What? Yoli's back? But why can't I reach her or the bodyguard?"
"Ms. Yolanda probably missed your calls while she was freshening up, and the bodyguard seems to have lost his phone at the club," Jerome explained.
Lizetta frowned, puzzled at the
convenient loss of the bodyguard's phone. Could Remington be behind this too, tricking her into running around with him, playing her for a fool?
The nerve of him! And to think she was about to call him 'brother' again. In his dreams.
