Chapter 119

Chapter 119 Nancy Was His Number One Priority

Nicholas let go of Madelline and strode over to grab Nancy by the arm.

Then, he solemnly icoked at her with deep eyes as he said, “Calm down, Nancy. Listen to me; I never wanted anything to happen to you. You are my wife. I will never aim a blade at you.

“Is that so?” Nancy scoffed before yelling at him, I hurt your precious lover, though. If you want. to protect her, you will have no choice but to point the blade at me. Don’t you get it, Nicholas? There was never any peace between Madelline and me. All this time, it was only a question of who would die.”

“Very well. Make your choice. Who do you choose to die?”

Her declarations instantly rendered him speechless.

Just then, Madelline made her way over to grab Nicholas’ arm as she looked as fragile as a butterfly.

“Don’t fight, Nicholas. I can explain everything. Nancy didn’t mean it.”

“I came to visit her because I heard she was in a car crash. I didn’t expect her to be so agitated. She only hurt me by accident because I was caught off-guard.”

Her decision to explain things was deliberate on her part. There was no doubt she was doing this to make everything for Nancy seem worse.

Moreover, she was intentionally bringing up Nancy’s accident to provoke her.

Nancy was indeed angered yet again.

So, she raised the knife and pointed it at Madelline as she broke down, shrieking, “Get out! Get out right now!”

“Don’t give in to your impulses, Nancy. Impulses are the devil,” Madelline said, pretending to be

scared.

Sadly, Nany no longer bought the act. Instead, she took a step forward with the blade in hand. Suddenly, a few more shards of glass dug into the bottom of her feet. The pain made her break out in a fit of cold sweat. It was excruciating!

Nevertheless, she did her best to push past the pain.

“I’m warning you, Madelline. Get out right now. Disappear from my life. Otherwise, I’ll stab you one more time,” Nancy declared with a vicious glare. She looked like she was really about to tear Madelline into pieces.

“Nicholas, help! Save me!”

Madeline darted over to meckly hide behind Nicholas.

He turned around and grabbed her. Then, he dragged her out of the room.

The door clicked stout behind them.

She let the blade fall to the ground with a muffled thump once the click of the door registered in her ears.

She did not even have the energy to get back to her bed. Thus, she slumped and curled up on the ground. Finally, she burst out crying with her head in her arms.

I’m so tired, Mom! I’m exhausted!”

“It would be nice if you were still around, Mom. You’d protect me, right?”

“I miss you so much, Mom.”

Meanwhile, Madelline was weakly leaning against Nicholas outside the ward. “It hurts, Nicholas

After a minute, Lynn arrived. Nicholas swiftly pushed Madelline over to her and said. “Take her to a doctor”

Madelline’s face turned stark white when she heard that. Disbelief was painted all over her face as she stammered. “W-What is the meaning of this, Nicholas? Aren’t you going with me?”

“Nancy is my wife. I need to be with her. Lynn will go with you.”

Madelline wailed when she heard that. She grabbed his arm as tears streamed down her cheeks. “No! Nicholas, I don’t want to go with Lynn!”

“I want you to be with me! I only want you”

Alas, Nicholas simply repeated with frosty eyes and a resolute voice, “Lynn will go with you.”

“No…” She stubbornly continued, “I don’t care if I bleed out to my death and die here. I want you to go with me!”

“Nicholas, if you don’t go with me, I would rather die

“Since you don’t even cherish your own life, you can just stand here and bleed to your death then,” he coldly stated.

That was not the answer she had been expecting. Her heart shattered when she heard that Nicholas clearly adored and loved her. So, how could he treat her like this?

She let out a few loud and wretched sobs. “How can you do this to me, Nicholas? You clearly love me. So, why would you say something so heartless?”

“I cared for you once, Madelline. That doesn’t mean I’ll abandon my wife for you.”

His statement was like the declaration of a death sentence for Madelline.

Her eyes widened with disbelief. “Nicholas, w-what do you mean?”

“Nancy was in a car crash, and I was kidnapped. We were both in danger, yet you chose me! The person you love the most should be me!”

He nodded. “True, I chose you.”

“However, that was because I did not know Nancy was in a car crash. i thought she was lying to me. I would never have left her alone otherwise. I regret what I did, Madelline. I regret abandoning her.”

“It doesn’t matter when or where. My wife will always be my number one priority. That is a fact that will never change, Madelline.”

She felt like she had descended to hell. She kept staring at him with wide eyes for the few long minutes it took for her to recover from the knowledge. She still remembered the glee and joy she felt when he raced over to save her.

She was so happy she could die.

In her mind, she had won the war. She had beaten Nancy with an absolute win.

She even assumed that once everything was over and they were discharged from the hospital, Nicholas would divorce Nancy. Then, she would publicly be acknowledged as Nicholas’ girlfriend. They would have a grand wedding ceremony where she would be the world’s happiest bride.

But what was Nicholas saying right now? He had just told her she had been mistaken. She had been wrong from the very start.

That was because Nicholas never meant to make the choice. It was just a mistake, a misunderstanding.

How could this be?

How?

He should love her and only her.

“No, Nicholas. It’s not like that…”

“Tell me it’s not like that. Tell me that it’s all a lie. You’re lying to me, right? You’re only testing my love for you, right?” she stubbornly demanded.

He continued to coldly look at her as he steadfastly said, “I’m not lying. If I had all the facts, I could only have chosen Nancy.”

Let go. Madeline. It doesn’t matter what happens in this lifetime; I will never be with you again.

“No! You’re lying, Nicholas. You clearly love me. You want to marry me. I don’t believe it. Don’t try to fool me, Nicholas. I will not believe it!”

Madelline was shouting in agitation. Suddenly, a scheme popped into her mind, and she abruptly fainted.

When he saw that, he turned to Lynn and said, “Take her to the doctor. Although she’s still bleeding, she should not be in any actual danger.”

“Yes, Mr. Sallow.”

Madelline felt like dying when she heard him leaving just like that.

Even though she had fainted, Nicholas did not try to catch her. He did not bring her to a doctor himself. Instead, he insisted on having Lynn take her for treatment.

She clenched her fists as she did her best to pretend to be unconscious as rage and despair raged in her heart.

It’s your fault, Nancy. It’s all your fault!Nicholas would still be mine if it weren’t for you. He would only love me and dote on me.All of this happened because you appeared. You should just die, Nancy.

After Madelline was sent away. Nicholas opened the door and headed into the room.
