Salute To The General

Chapter 2605

Later that night, Cross Group's cancer research team moved into the White House and began working with the royal physicians to devise a treatment plan.

As Garrett's condition was considered top secret, they hadn't revealed it to the public.

Even so, word about it had spread around the White House like wildfire.

Kidney cancer was no mild illness, and Garrett would have to go through a long recovery period if his treatment were to be successful. It would leave him so lethargic that he wouldn't be able to focus on his work at all.

Although nobody had brought it up, everyone knew that someone had to take over his position as president.

With that thought in the back of their minds, all sorts of crazy ideas began to surface.

Quite a lot of them wanted to become the next president.

Those that weren't qualified for the position, on the other hand, were busy choosing someone to support. For the latter, picking the presidential candidate to support was like an investment of some sort.

They believed that they would be able to enjoy a life of luxury if the person they supported became the president.

Although there were quite a handful of people who wanted to become the next president, two in particular were the most popular choices among the others.

The first candidate was Zion, the cab secretary.

The second one was Nathan, the Chief Military Governor.

In order to curry favor with the two of them, many have paid them visits throughout the next few days.

Unlike Zion, who welcomed his visitors warmly, Nathan preferred to keep a low profile and even seemed a little disgusted by the attention he received.

Fang, the commander-in-chief of the North Army, along with Destroyer and Heptakill, happened to be visiting Brimmopolis to report to Nathan that day.

Fang, Destroyer, and Heptakill were all elite soldiers that Nathan had personally brought up.

Among the three, Fang was the most capable and could even handle difficult situations all on his own.

As such, he was the one that Nathan felt the most confident in.

"Looks like the three of them are here to see me. Have them meet me in the study room," Nathan said with a smile when he heard about their arrival. "Yes, sir!" Colin replied.

Soon, the three bright soldiers were lined up in Nathan's study room.

"Good day, Chief Cross!" Fang, Destroyer, and Heptakill chanted in

unison as they saluted him.

Their eyes were filled with excitement as they glanced at Nathan, who was their mentor, their general, and their idol.

In fact, the mere act of visiting Nathan felt like pilgriming for them.

"It's nice to see the three of you again. Come, sit. We're like family, so there's no need for such formalities!"

"Yes, General!"

Fang, Destroyer, and Heptakill then took off their hats as they sat down on the couch beside them. Even when seated, their postures were upright, and their legs were only shoulderwidth apart.

Neither of them dared show any sign of disrespect in front of Nathan.

Nathan then had the guards bring them some tea. "Why didn't you guys tell me in advance that you'd be coming over?"

"We came over to Brimmopolis just

to report to you about work, Chief Cross. Our previous reports were al done through video conferencing Since you're back in Brimmopolis, we figured we'd drop by in person instead," Fang replied.

The three of them then told Nathan how the North Army had shocked Xyperia by carrying out a large-scale military training exercise.

"The three of you have done well in this training exercise. You will be awarded when you return to base later!" Nathan complimented them, much to their delight.

"By the way, Chief Cross, we've received some information..." Fang said cautiously.

"What kind of information?" Nathan asked.

"We heard that President Woods has fallen ill," Fang replied nervously.

Nathan frowned. "Who told you that?"

Fang let out a wry chuckle. "That's what everyone out there is saying."

Nathan's frown deepened. "I don't care what others are saying out there. All you guys have to do is fulfill your responsibilities. Ignore everything else. Do you hear me?"

"Yes, sir!" Fang then hesitated for a bit before continuing, "Chief Cross, they say, President Woods' condition is incredibly severe, and that he needs to choose someone to take over his position as president."

Nathan shot him a glance as he asked in an emotionless tone, “What else have you heard?"© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
