Skylar stared at the photo briefly before exiting her private chat with Vera. She then checked Instagram.

Rowan had posted a new update. The photo was taken at the same place as Vera’s birthday party. She could vaguely make out Joe’s hand in the photo, recognizing it by the watch on his wrist. It was a rare piece, the only one of its kind in Jipsburg,

Rowan’s caption read, “A very silly and adorable woman told me that even if I lost everything and wasn’t a Jakeman anymore, she would still love me. Starting today, I will try being just Rowan Jakeman, not the Jakeman from the Jakeman family.”

It was an explicit declaration of love for Jenny and a message to the Jakeman family–Rowan was willing to give it all up for her.

After leaving Jakeman Residence, it seemed Joe and Rowan had headed straight to Vera’s party.

Skylar rubbed her aching temples. She went downstairs for a glass of water before returning to bed, hoping to fall asleep.

She had barely drifted off when she heard the bed shift beside her. Joe had climbed in, pulling her into his arms as usual. He probably hadn’t expected to wake her. Noticing her slight tension, and with a hint of alcohol on his breath, he murmured, “Did I wake you?”

“What time is it?” Skylar inquired.

“About 3:00 am,” Joe replied.

Skylar sat up and said, “You go back to sleep. I went to bed early and now can’t get back to sleep. I’ll go downstairs and read for a bit.”

Without waiting for a response, Skylar slipped out of bed. Joe, sensing something off, followed her downstairs. Anyway, he Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.

wasn’t sleepy in the slightest.

Skylar settled on the couch with a book. As she flipped through the pages, she heard footsteps approaching. She looked up to see Joe coming down the stairs.

“Why aren’t you asleep?” she asked:

Joe approached her and asked, “Is something on your mind?”

Skylar opened her mouth, ready to say something, but decided it wasn’t worth mentioning. She shook her head and said, “It’s nothing.” Everyone has restless nights sometimes. We still have a few hours until dawn, so you should go back to sleep.”

Joe studied her closely and asked, “Are you sure it’s nothing?”

He seemed to want to discern something from Skylar’s eyes, but Skylar had already lowered her head and resumed reading.

After drinking some water, Joe said, “Mr. Jakeman Senior has expelled Rowan.”

Skylar looked up again. “Is it a full cut–off?”

“Not entirely for now. However, Rowan’s card is frozen, and he will have to manage without the family’s support. But Rowan is

confident he can make it on his own.”

Skylar nodded. “I saw his Instagram earlier. It’s surprising how far he’s willing to go for Jenny.”

Joe’s voice grew serious. “That’s not a good sign.”

“Everyone has to be responsible for their choices. Time will reveal everything,” Skylar said, her voice calm.

Sometimes, emotions were messy and uncontrollable -just like her tangled thoughts about the photo Vera had sent her and Joe’s unclear feelings toward Vera.

It made sense why Vera appeared confident.

The next morning, during breakfast, Joe suggested they visit the hot spring resort. But Skylar declined.

“I didn’t sleep much last night and don’t have the energy. Let’s plan for another day.”

Joe didn’t push further and agreed. “Okay.”
