Chapter 813

Chapter 813

This would also make Vera more proactive in seeking reconciliation.

Joe’s gaze deepened. “Since you’re injured, you should stay in the hospital and get proper treatment.”

Hearing Joe’s cold, distant tone, Vera felt both panicked and hurt. “Joe, do you really have to push me away like this?

Before today, Vera would never have been so irrational as to question him. She never wanted to show weakness in front of Joe or let him see her trump cards. But after the fire, much of her pride had disappeared. She had been truly scared.

“If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up,” Joe said coldly

“Fine! Joe, it’s my fault for being so full of myself and thinking I meant something to you. I won’t call you again! I won’t bother you anymore. Are you happy now?”

Vera ended the call first.

Paul had already been looking out of the car window. When it came to Joe’s personal life, it was best not to ask any questions.

Joe leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes. His expression became hard to read.

Joe’s thoughts were difficult to read.

Paul thought to himself with a sigh.

Vera lay in her hospital bed. She covered her face and cried for a while. Then, she worried that someone might notice, so she got up and went to the restroom to wash her face.

Her pride and self–esteem seemed worthless in front of Joe.

Suddenly, she regretted how confident she had been back then. She thought that Joe, who was always so aloof, wouldn’t easily fall for anyone. Moreover, given his father’s affair, Joe would likely value the purest form of love between a man and a woman even more.

But in the end, she realized she had overlooked the fact that what men might care about most was simply satisfying their desires. Otherwise, Joe couldn’t possibly be involved with someone as impure as Skylar.

He even kept Skylar in Galaxy Villa.

“Ms. Ruell, your mother’s condition is quite serious. She has a severe lung infection and has suffered burns to her respiratory tract, which might affect her ability to speak in the future.”

A doctor, Kennard Baxter, entered and directly informed Vera about Penelope’s condition.

Vera snapped back to reality. Her face turned ashen. “Will it affect her ability to speak?”

“Yes, it’s highly likely. However, we will do everything we can to treat her. As for your father, his condition is quite critical. He has extensive burns and is currently in a crucial phase,” Kennard explained.

Vera’s face lost all color. “I trust in the medical expertise of your hospital. Please do everything you can!”

Her parents‘ situation was even worse than she had feared.

The fire had started suddenly. If she hadn’t stayed up past midnight as usual, her family might have perished in the blaze.

The fire had spread alarmingly fast. It was almost as if someone was deliberately controlling it, intending to burn them all alive.

The police said the fire was an accident. But was it truly an accident?

Vera suddenly felt unsure. Nonetheless, she bit her lip and forced herself to stop thinking about it. Nothing else mattered now. The most important thing was that her parents‘ situation could improve. Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.

Skylar was awakened by her phone’s ringing.

Still half asleep, she answered the call.

“Skye, are you awake?”

When Skylar recognized Steven’s voice, she fully opened her eyes. She yawned and replied, “I just woke up, Steven.”

“Are you hiding something from me? Is there something you haven’t told me?” Steven asked, his tone serious.
