Chapter 55
“Why the hell did you think I’d agree to this foolishness of giving her to that ba**d? And what the hell are they doing here?” Rygan snarls out in question to his commanders.
“I have no clue. We got the message from Alvira. She must have intercepted it and got the elders involved.” Taz says, admitting that even though Alvira did not come, his face betrayed disappointment for Alvira as the elders trooped in.
“I’m sure you mean to say that my dear child did right; after the attack on my dear Alana. I have the right to know what goes on outside the pack Adeline, Alvira’s mother, notes,
She walks with deep pride in the room, her face cold and stoic, and immediately turns to one filled with contempt when she sees Elise.
“And we are here to give our decision on the matter at hand; it’s our pack too, and it’s best to give her back to her betrothed.” another elder chimes in.
“And you’d think I’d listen to these absurd orders? You dare tell me what to do?” Rygan snarls at the male, who clears his throat after taking a loud gulp.
“No, alpha, the elder replied. His head bowed immediately to show he meant no disrespect to Rygan, knowing the alpha’s beastly nature at full strength.
“Alpha Adeline starts. “That is the best situation, or else you have to duel that man; she is his bride in the first place, Alpha Rygan! For all we know, he had planned something else if we allowed him into this pack, so give her to him,” Adeline argues.
The room immediately filled with nods and agreement from the elders, while Rygan, his brothers, and Elise did not agree to their demands.
“No in a million chances will you make me give her to that monster; do you forget what pack joined the war decades ago and who took me prisoner? And now you want to fall into their graces!”
“That is exactly why we want you to give her up; they are c***g monsters. If you don’t give him back his bride, he has all the right to come into this pack and take her. But the alternative is inviting him for an engagement to my child’s ceremony; I’d rather bum than see a Dark Knight wolf invited to our home!”
“Elise is not going anywhere!” Rygan called with a slam to the table.
“Alpha Rygan, are you going to duel for her then? Do you know how that will be such an insult to your intended mate, Alvira, if you fight for another female who isn’t even mated to you?”
Rygan wanted to say there and then that Elise carried his mark; even though she took drugs to suppress his protective scent from her body, she still bore his mark. “We are not talking about this again,” he says with finality that sta**rs the whole room into silence.
“I do hope that you are doing the right thing, whatever you choose; when your father was still here, he would listen and do what is right for the pack.”
“That is enough from you. Elder Adeline; I won’t say it again.” He warns, and she bows, leaving quickly with the other elders.
“S**.” Taz muttered. “I didn’t want them finding out about this before we came up with a solution.”
“It seems my dear cousin decided to spill everything to her mother and the elders instead,” Kaide says, his body leaning on the wall and his features brooding with annoyance.Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
Though they were back to being alone again, it was now filled with silence and confusion. “What if I just go with him and see what he wants after all this time?” Elise says, breaking the tense silence. The three males look at her, stunned by her suggestion
“You can’t expect me to agree with this, Elise; I’m going to kill him if he tries to come anywhere near you,” Rygan says without hesitation.
“I can’t let your people be in danger because of me, Rygan,” Elise argues with her hands folded on her chest and brows creased in a line.
“We will protect you; I will protect you, he replied.
Elise’s gaze softened; she recalled what he went through in those dark dungeons, and they both had to face what they endured in the Dark Knight pack because of Kyren.
“I know, but we need to show that monster that what he did to us did not break us, that we are stronger, and the only other option is to let him in, and if he tries anything, then you can kill him,” she says to Rygan.
“I won’t stop you, and we have to know what he wants. He wanted to get rid of her so badly in the beginning, but now he wants her back. He must know something we don’t.” Taz says.
Then our guard needs to be tripled and stationed on every wall if we are going to accept his demands to be let into our pack,” Kaide mutters.
He brings out one of the maps placed on one of Ta**s shelves, setting the plan already while Taz assists.
Rygan, on the other hand, has said no words; his eyes are still locked on Elise, and the tension around them is intense.
You’re sure?” He sends it to Elise’s mind.
I am; I can’t sit idly, can I? She says to Rygan, who immediately sends a message to Kaide and Taz to give them the room. They both leave quietly with a click at the door before Rygan speaks.
“I don’t want to agree to this.”
“It’s not just your engagement, Rygan; you have to keep your people and your family safe. These words stung Rygan more than they should, but she was right.
His finger thrummed on the table as he watched Elise in a dark silence before he sighed.
“Alright then, we have to prepare ourselves for his arrival and never let your guard down, but before that, you need to train with me. I want you to learn how to change into your wolf on command.
“I can ask Kaide.”
“No, Alone, with me,” he says quietly. “Then I can see to it that I don’t snap that b**d’s head in sight,” he says.
And Elise knew there wasn’t any choice or way around it as she nodded in agreement. “Alright, I’ll train with you,” she replied.
And the next time that she meets Kyren, she won’t be the same girl he met and rejected at the altar-the same woman he humiliated and abused.
She was not the girl he once knew.
