It was a silent and infuriating drive. Evelyn Thompson and the driver both occupied the front sit while I sat alone at the back.

Tomorrow was I and my boyfriend’s anniversary and the thought of how tomorrow was going to be gave me joy amidst my crappy job.

“I’m know Mrs Tobias sent us on this foolish errand for us to make peace. So let me make it clear to you Evelyn Thompson, there is no such thing as peace between us. I’m not making some thing as mawkish as peace with you” I said to Evelyn, icily.

“We were doing fine before you spoke ” she drawled

Somehow, I felt prickled by her bored tone of voice. Like she was dismissing me. I always wanted to feel good about myself when I was bickering with her, but I didn’t feel good now.

“I wanted to make it clear. I didn’t want you deluding yourself” I fired

“Thanks very much for making it clear, Elizabeth. It obviously wasn’t clear before” she said with sarcasm

That bitch! How dare she use fucking sarcasm on me? And why in hell did it suit her so much? It felt like her reply was designed to burn me.

“You’ve always been so arrogant, Evelyn Thompson. Always on your fucking high horse” I bit out

She scoffed. “why don’t you bring me down from my high horse! Blonde bimbo!”

I asked, totally outraged. Evelyn didn’t answer, which annoyed me the more

“Ladies, please keep it down. I need concentration while driving” the driver said to the both of us but I didn’t care. I was going to give that bitch a fierce comeback now.

“You just wait!” I said to her. “My boyfriend’s going to beat you to a pulp, the next time we meet”

“Are you talking about the gorilla?” She asked, in a mocking tone

“You have no right whatsoever, to call my boyfriend a gorilla” I snapped

She giggled. “You know, I’ve been meaning to ask you this, Elizabeth, how’s your sex life?”

She broke into a giggle again and it angered me.

It was my turn to laugh. Even if the situation wasn’t that funny, I forced out a scornful laughter because I knew it would hurt Evelyn Thompson’s ass the more.

I leaned over, talking near her.

“I know that you can’t ever snag a man, let alone a boyfriend”

“Okay, how about we make a bet. I give you two weeks to show me your boyfriend and if you fail to do that, I’ll spread a nasty rumour about you at work. What do you say?” I clicked my tongue, I loved throwing challenges. Especially easy ones, like this one.

“Deal. And if I win the bet?” She asked

“I’ll be your slave for a week” I replied

“It’s agreed on, Elizabeth. Watch how I shame you by getting a boyfriend who’s not way bigger than me and who I wouldn’t struggle to have sex with or who I wouldn’t call a gorilla because of his size or —”

“Are you talking about my boyfriend now?” I fumed

This bitch was getting on my nerves again. Why was the driver taking too long to get there?

“Okay, here’s another question” she said, totally ignoring my warning

“Shut it” I yelled as I pulled a handful of her hair. Letting out a shriek too, she turned and clawed at my hair.

We were so immersed in our fight, that we didn’t hear the driver’s shouts.

From the corner of my eye, I watched as our car swerved as it tried to dodge another car, I swiftly let go of Evelyn’s hair and so did she.

I, Evelyn and the driver let out terrified screams as our car brakes lost control and our car crashed into the woods.
