Natalie was startled. Yet, as she met Austin’s gaze, she found it hard to look away. It was as if there was a hook drawing her in.

Suddenly, she realized that Austin was teasing her. After swallowing hard, she said, “Yes, I like you, Mr. Powell! I’ve been a fan of yours for a long time.”

Lately, she couldn’t help but feel that Austin seemed more charming than ever. Hearing her say “fan“, Austin’s expression darkened a bit. “That’s good to hear.”

“What does he mean by ‘good to hear‘?” Natalie thought, feeling a bit confused.

She wondered if she was reading too much into it. It felt like there was a deeper meaning in his words, almost as if he was hinting at something.

But then again, she thought she might be overthinking it. If Austin had something to say, he could just tell her directly–there was no need to drop hints.

After all, she was just an employee, diligently following her boss‘ orders.

As Austin noticed Natalie’s expression changing, he sighed inwardly. He wondered what she was thinking.

The next day, Skylar took the morning off and headed to the courthouse with her documents.

When she arrived at the courthouse, she was ten minutes early. She messaged Joe to let him know she was there.

Joe simply replied, “Okay.” Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.

After waiting about seven or eight minutes, he arrived.

He walked over with his long strides. When he reached her, his dark eyes locked onto hers. “Did you bring all the documents?”

“Yes, I’ve got everything. Let’s go inside.” Skylar glanced at the folder in Joe’s hand, realizing his documents were likely inside it too.

Standing before the courthouse, it felt like she was in a dream. The last time she was here was with Joe when they applied for their marriage certificate. They were still strangers to each other, signing a three- year covert marriage agreement.

Now, unexpectedly, they were about to finalize their divorce before even reaching the three–year mark.

Skylar felt a deep ache in her heart. It was her reckless decision on the day she was reborn. There were countless ways to repay Gloria, but in a moment of confusion, she chose to marry Joe.

Now, she had harmed both Joe and herself. Perhaps she had also hurt Gloria.

Joe silently observed Skylar’s changing expressions, his tone cold as he said, “Let’s go in.”

“Okay.”

Today, the courthouse was crowded. Not many couples were getting married, but the line for divorces stretched long.

The last time they came for a marriage certificate, hardly anyone was on the divorce side. Skylar hadn’t expected so many people today.

She was a bit surprised.

“Have you thought about your reason for divorce?” Joe suddenly asked.

Skylar knew that the staff would ask her this question during the divorce process, but she didn’t expect Joe to bring it up. “We just have irreconcilable differences.”

Joe scoffed lightly. “Irreconcilable differences?”

He wondered where exactly those differences lay.

In bed, they were as compatible as ever. Her reason for wanting a divorce felt so dismissive.

“And… there’s no affection,” Skylar added, trying for a more valid reason.

Joe’s expression darkened immediately. His narrowed eyes fixed on her. “No affection?”

Skylar gazed at Joe, whose expression was inscrutable, leaving her momentarily at a loss for words. The atmosphere among the few people in line for divorce grew tense.
