In truth, Kate’s cooking wasn’t particularly outstanding. However, her baked salmon and some of her stews were exceptional.
Right now, Natalie was craving Kate’s cooking. NôvelDrama.Org exclusive content.
“Alright, when you get back, I’ll make your favorite dish. I’ll buy the freshest, biggest salmon at the market so you can eat your fill,” Kate replied with a smile.
“Mom, you’re the best.”
Kate couldn’t help but laugh for a moment, but her smile suddenly faded. Then, in a more serious tone, she said, “Nath, I just got a call from Mrs. Hughes!”
“How is Mrs. Hughes doing lately?” Natalie asked, her smile vanishing.
Since she divorced Jeremy, she hadn’t contacted the Hughes family, so she was unsure of what to say. To her, Eleanor had watched her grow up, just like her own mother.
“Ah, people our age are bound to have some health issues. Right now, she’s most worried about Jeremy. He’s been drinking heavily for the past couple of days and calls your name, when he’s drunk. No matter how Mrs. Hughes tries to persuade him, he doesn’t listen.
“She’s really worried about him. Mr. Hughes Senior recently wanted to arrange a marriage for him, but Jeremy has refused. If Mr. Hughes Senior gets angry, he might not be able to stay at the company,” Kate said, growing increasingly concerned for Jeremy.
To her, he was like a son. For the past few days, she wondered when Jeremy and Natalie could reconcile. She and Damon wouldn’t feel at ease letting Natalie marry anyone else.
Natalie didn’t know what to say for a moment. After a pause, she finally replied, “Mom, Jeremy and I are already divorced. There’s no need to talk about him anymore. We’re both adults. We have to bear the consequences of our actions. He should know what he’s doing.”
“Ah, Nath, I know your personality. You won’t forgive him. Well, let’s not discuss this anymore. Maybe one day, you both will understand each other.
“It’s getting late. Your dad and I are going to sleep. Please take care while you’re working there. When you return, I’ll make baked salmon for you,” Kate concluded, choosing not to press the matter further.
Seeing that Kate didn’t continue the conversation, Natalie sighed in relief. After hanging up, she felt a mix
of emotions.
It was hard to see Jeremy spiral downward like this. She really couldn’t just stand by and watch Jeremy
suffer.
His stomach wasn’t good. After drinking so much the other day, she wondered how he could handle it.
While she was lost in thought, Austin suddenly appeared before her. Austin asked, “What are you thinking
about?”
Natalie was startled. “Oh, I–I wasn’t thinking about anything. I was just watching your act, and it felt surreal that this show is wrapping up so soon.”
Austin looked closely at her. “Are you really okay?”
“Of course,” Natalie replied, shaking off her thoughts influenced by Kate.
She smiled brightly at Austin and said, “Mr. Powell, you were amazing in that scene. The moment when
the leads parted made me feel so heartbroken.”
This scene depicted the couple parting ways because their aspirations differed, and neither could sacrifice what they had for the other. The only choice before them was to break up.
Even knowing it was just a show, she couldn’t help but feel upset.
“Silly girl.” Austin chuckled.
For him, performing emotional scenes didn’t evoke much feeling. He mostly relied on technique.
Natalie defended herself. “This is the show where I’ve acted with you the most, Mr. Powell. Naturally, it feels different. It’s like we’re really parting away.”
They had just rehearsed this scene a couple of days ago.
At that time, she had gotten quite into and had even hugged Austin while crying.
She couldn’t remember what he had said then. It wasn’t part of the script.
“Natalie, do you have feelings for me?” Austin suddenly looked down at her, his voice low enough for only the two of them to hear.
