Chapter 1411
Joe was still worried about Skylar.
Joe got into bed and wrapped his arms around Skylar. She could hear his heartbeat.
The strong rhythm of his heart brought a sense of comfort to her. "In five years, we will have another child," Joe said softly.
Skylar felt a flutter in her heart. "Okay, let's look forward to that. Is there anything I can help you with on your end?"
Joe had been busy these past few days, leaving early and returning late. Even Paul posted on Instagram, commenting on how intense and demanding his life had been recently.
Everything Joe faced was a challenge, but none seemed insurmountable for him.
It made sense. For Paul, who had endured three years of a hellish life, and for Joe, who had started from scratch over the past three years, the difficulties they faced now were far from daunting.
"I can handle everything. For now, you need to stay home and focus on recovering. I'll take care of the rest," Joe said, gently ruffling Skylar's hair. Her hair was always so soft and smooth.
Being with her made everything chaotic seem peaceful. It made him want to protect her even more.
Sometimes, he felt guilty, believing he had wasted too much time during those three years, which had left Martin Group in its current state and cost him the three years that should have been spent with her.
Joe's gaze turned deeper as he got lost in his thoughts.
Janine hadn't known about Skylar's ectopic pregnancy until she noticed Skylar's pale complexion during their video call. Concerned, she asked about
it.
When Janine learned it was an ectopic pregnancy, she couldn't sit still. "I'm coming to see you. You just had surgery, so make sure you take care of yourself. Rest as if you're in confinement."novelbin
"Grandma sent Veronica to take care of me, so don't worry, Mom," Skylar quickly replied, wanting to reassure Janine.
Hearing that someone would be there to look after her eased Janine's worries, but she still felt concerned.
Skylar's health had been fragile a few years ago due to her frequent blood donations, which left her weak for some time. However, after some time of recovery, her health O improved significantly.
Now, after all these years, Janine had thought her body would be in good shape.
However, it was concerning that her first pregnancy had turned out to be ectopic. After the call ended, Janine quickly went online to check things out. Noticing that her kitchen was well-stocked, she hurried to prepare some soup.
After a while, someone suddenly rang the doorbell. She adjusted the flame on the stove and went to open the door.
When she saw Ted standing at her doorstep, she was taken aback. "Ted?"
Ted smiled warmly. "Janine, I've been busy these past few days and haven't had the chance to visit. I happened to be passing by and thought I'd check in on you."
Janine was momentarily stunned
before snapping back to reality.
"Have you eaten dinner yet? I just
finished making a simple dinner with a couple of home-cooked dishes."

Ted didn't hesitate, pushing up his glasses. "Not yet."
"Perfect! Come in," Janine said immediately.
Ted followed Janine inside. As he stepped in and noticed the home's light luxury minimalist decor, a smile tugged at his lips.
It matched Janine's style perfectly. When he first met Janine two years ago, he hadn't imagined she was older than him, nor did he expect her to have four children.
His initial impression was that she was several years younger than him. He hadn't heard anyone mention her husband, so he thought she might be divorced.
Later, he learned that the company she managed was her daughter's and she also had three sons; she wasn't divorced. Her husband had tragically passed away 20 years ago.
Over the past two decades, she had raised her children on her own and nurtured them into success. She had also continued to grow herself, never stagnating.
