Eve’s POV

“Janet” I ran to give her a hug.

“How did you… I .. I am so surprised” I turned to Liam.

“Did you help me find her?” I asked him but he gestured.. and I don’t understand what he meant.

“Janet” I said, holding her hands… She smiled a bit, I noticed her eyes were red and she looked really sad even when she tried to hide it.

“What’s going on here? You… said you met Liam at a coffee shop?” I asked again.

“I didn’t know you were coming behind me, I thought you weren’t ready to meet Eve yet” Liam said to Janet.

“I changed my mind. I thought it’s better I do this once and for all” She responded.

“You came in~ just in time” Liam said

“What’s going on?” I asked again, looking at the both of them.

“You are so beautiful Eve” Janet said to me, touching my cheeks.

“You don’t look happy Janet, I even observed the times we spoke to eachother over the phone” I told her. “Is there something wrong and you are not telling me? You didn’t even tell me you would be around here? How do you even know Liam? Your mom helped?” I had a lot of questions to ask at that moment.

“I would excuse the two of you” Liam said.

“Please don’t. I … I’m not sure I can do it alone. I don’t know how Eve would feel about it” Janet said.

“What is it?” I asked, looking at the both of them.

“Come Eve” Liam held my hand and took me to his office, he beckoned Janet to come also..

Liam’s POV..

We told her everything in my office… At least, there won’t be eavesdropper or spy.

“I’m sorry” I can’t count how many times Janet apologized but Eve won’t stop whimpering.

I sat beside her and helped her wipe her face with an hankerchief but she collected it from me and wiped her face herself then sniffed.

“I.. I think I’m fine” She said.

“I would leave the both of you now..” I said went outside.. I know she’s only shocked due to the news; coming from her best friend at that. I wish everything would get settled soon, go back to the normal way it’s supposed to be.

Eve’s POV

“I’m no good friend” Janet said.

“I couldn’t even summon up the conscience to speak with you over the phone” Janet pleaded.

“I’m sorry” She said.

I nodded slowly this time, wiped all my tears and sniffed till I made sure that no more tears would gather in my eyes.

“I still can’t believe it’s true; I was set up” My suspicion also wondered who must have told Mr Maya about me. Even when he claimed that he only passed by and wanted to help the needy in his own way.

” You didn’t do anything wrong Janet. It’s not your fault at all” I told her, cleaned my eyes , stood up and move toward where she stood, still feeling guilty and sad.

“Although, the first days I spent here was rough and tough. Even sometimes now but Look at me, I’m still surviving.. I’m Okay Janet. There’s nothing to feel bad about” I told her.

“Are you sure?” She asked me..

I also told her about how I usually give Mr Maya drugs to defend myself from being used.

Both of them were guilt, Mrs Pitt who forced Mr Maya to marry me and Mr Maya, the maniac pedophile.

Liam returned after some time..

“I have spoken with my Lawyer” He said to us.

“What did he say?” Janet and I asked at the same time.

“I didn’t explain everything about how you got married to my father in details, so he only demanded for the marriage contract you signed”

“It’s at home” I answered.

“Tomorrow won’t be too late to get the divorce form” Janet said.

“Yeah, I would take Eve home today, you’ll give me those papers, so I could scan it and send to him as soon as possible” Liam suggested and I agreed..

“Mr Maya would never see it coming” I said..: “He would back today, perfect time to face him squarely”

“He travelled right?” Janet asked.

“Yeah” Liam replied.

“I don’t know what his reasons are but I know my mom has been seeing him” She said.

“Let’s try out the divorce papers first before we’ld suggest what next to do” Liam said. I nodded in affirmation.

I noticed, Eve looking at us like she already knows that there is something between us. I guess it’s written all over us.

“I … I need to take my leave . Whenever you need my help or anything at all. Call me” Janet said and walked out of the office.

“Janet”I followed her..

The rest of the workers were back because Lunch is over, I couldn’t speak to Janet till we got outside.

“Eve, I’m happy for you, somehow I knew you’ld survive all hardship that comes your way. And you do not only manage to dodge them, you found love too. I’m happy for you” She said… I smiled a bit.

“It’s probably my fate to find love this way. Thanks to you; I’m never weak” I told her. She smiled amidst that downcast look.

“What of college? How are you doing?” I had to ask.

“I’m… I.. there’s no day I don’t think about you” She said instead. “I got used to having you in the same classroom right from elementary and high schools; now… It doesn’t feel right being apart now that I’m in college. Especially when I know what’s wrong” She said.. I only nodded.

“You can still make it to the college right?” She asked.. “I would help you I promise” She added.

“You know, I actually don’t want you to feel bad or blame yourself about anything; It’s painful though but I literally learnt and got alot; things changed compared to when I was at home back then.. My Dad is okay, there’s work, love , new friends, and fund to go to college..”

“I wish I can help you” She said again.

“You have wanted to help me Janet”

“I.. I want to make it up to you in a very big way, I don’t know how” She said.

“You already did, by spilling out all this… It could serve as evidence or proof soon”

She sighed..;” Okay. If you insist you are not mad at me and that I’ve helped you that way; I’m glad , I could do something. I now feel abit relieved that something which has been bothering me is finally out” Janet said and hugged me.

“Bye Eve. Don’t hesitate to call on me anytime at all” She said now walking towards a car that packed right in front of us.
