Being Threatened
The next day, while Alexander was at work and going through some papers, his secretary called him through the office phone informing him of a visitor.
“Sir, there’s someone here to see you.” She informed him on the phone.
Alexander was a bit taken aback. He hadn’t been expecting any visitors, and he was quite busy.
“And what’s the visitor’s name?”
“His name is Jaime Fernado sir, he has been to your office a few times.”
Alexander was silent for a few seconds as he knew what Jaime came for. He hesitated for a while not sure if he would want him to enter his office.
After thinking for a while, he replied to her.
“Let him in.”
Alexander sat behind his desk, watching the door with anticipation. He wasn’t sure what to expect, but he knew that Jaime was probably here to talk about something important.
A few moments later, Jaime walked into the room. He was tall and well-dressed, with a confident air about him. He extended his hand to shake Alexander’s, and Alexander reluctantly took it.
“What can I do for you, Jaime?” Alexander asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
“I have something I need to discuss with you, something important.” Jaime said, his eyes fixed on Alexander’s.
“And what might that be?” He asked.
“I know about your fake contract with what’s her name again…. Ha! Marissa.” Jaime said, his voice low and intense.
Alexander said nothing as he looked at Jaime talking.NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
“I’ve been suspicious for a while now, and I finally have the proof I need.”
Alexander felt the blood drain from his face. He tried to deny it, but the words wouldn’t come out. He knew he’d been caught.
“Why?” He finally managed to ask. “Why are you telling me this?”
“Why am I telling you this you say? I’m telling you this that if you don’t want me to expose your fake relationship with her, hand over the contract to me.” Jaime revealed.
“How do you want me to do that?” Alexander asked as he sat up straight on his chair and placed his hands on the table.
“I don’t know… You figure that out. All I want is that during the party tomorrow, I want you to inform them that you no longer need the contract or find out any excuse you can use to get them to hand the contract over to me. Understood?” Jaime said, his eyes still fixed on Alexander.
“And I want you to know that I know the truth.”
So if you think I’m bluffing then you can go ahead and act like my threat means nothing to you, but trust me when I say, I have evidence and I will reveal it.”
Alexander felt a knot in his stomach. He knew that Jaime was serious, and he knew that he had to do something about it. But what? He couldn’t give up the contract – it was worth too much to him. But he also couldn’t risk having his affair exposed. He was trapped, and he didn’t know what to do.
“I… I can’t do that.” He finally said, his voice shaky. “The contract is too important to me. I can’t just give it up.”
“Then I guess we have a problem.” Jaime said, his eyes narrowing. “Because I’m … not going to let this go.
I’m going to expose your affair, and the contract will be mine. It’s the only way to make things right.”
Alexander felt like the walls were closing in on him. He couldn’t lose the contract, but he also couldn’t risk having his affair exposed. He was caught between a rock and a hard place, and he didn’t know what to do.
“So you came here to threaten me to quit so that you’d have a better shot, is that it?” Alexander asked.
“Well… maybe. You know that you’re not worthy to have this contract so it’s fair to hand it over to a competent and trustworthy individual who will not do a fake marriage to get the contract.” he teased Alex as he sat down on the couch.
Alexander was fuming, but he tried to keep his cool. He knew that if he could just keep his emotions in check, he might be able to come up with a way to salvage this situation.
“Okay, let’s just say I did hand over the contract to you. What’s to stop me from taking legal action against you for all the threats you’ve made?” He asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
“Oh, please.” Jaime said with a laugh. “You think I don’t have any legal protection? I know what I’m doing, and I know the consequences of my actions.
“Really? Was that why you went and told Jessie and made us have issues so that she can threaten me to hand the contract over to you because of my relationship with her?” Alex asked.
“Uhmmm… maybe…. You see there are some secrets that you also need to know as well. But I won’t tell you yet until you hand over the contract to me.” He said.
Alex looked at him and wondered what he meant by some secret. Was there something Jaime was hiding?
“What are you talking about, Jaime?” Alex decided to ask as he studied Jaime’s body language and words carefully.
“Hmmm… should I just tell you or just keep it hidden? I don’t even know….” He smirked as he looked at Alex.
“Just that your beautiful Jessie is keeping a deep secret from you as well and you see I know about the secret and I can reveal it as well that day if you don’t hand over the contract.” He threatened.
Alex’s mind was racing. What could Jessie possibly be keeping from him? He knew that she had a dark past, but he never imagined that she would be hiding something from him. He wondered if he should believe Jaime or not. But one thing was certain – he didn’t want to lose the contract.
“I’m not going to just hand over the contract to you based on some vague threat.” He said, trying to sound confident. “You’ll need to give me more information if you want me to even consider it.”
“Hahahaha.” Jaime laughed as he got up from the couch and walked towards Alexander’s table and leaned on the table and looked at Alex straight in the eyes.
“I think you should ask your special and precious girlfriend yourself. I don’t want to be the person that spreads bad news or dark secrets.” Jaime said.
“So you have now till the time of the speech during the dinner to hand over the contract. If you don’t do that, I will reveal all your secrets and you will not only lose the contract but other investors trust. And I don’t think you want that, Alex, so think about it carefully.” He said and smiled and turned to leave Alex’s office.
