Chapter 47
The waiter served Madelyn’s coffee. She picked up a teaspoon and elegantly stirred the dark liquid as she mused, “So what is he if not your boyfriend? Is he part of your male harem?”
Carrie rolled her eyes and snuffed out her cigarette in the ashtray. When she did not respond, Madelyn dropped the matter and changed the subject. “Do you know which of the Miller family members sent you the threat?”
“Elijah, the eldest scion of the Miller family,” Carrie answered.
Elijah Miller was Andrew’s eldest brother.
Lance had sent Elijah abroad after Elijah got tangled up in a power struggle with his siblings over the right to inherit Miller Group. After that, Lance did not leave his eldest grandson anything under his will. Rumor had it that Elijah wasn’t doing well abroad.
At once, Madelyn thought about the conspiracy that surrounded her and Andrew. She couldn’t believe how stupid and naive she had been in her past life to miss all these details.
“You don’t have to be afraid of him,” Madelyn said. If Elijah were so formidable, surely he would have inherited something under Lance’s will. It was unlikely he could get away with trouble under Andrew’s scrutiny, especially if he had already failed to do so on Lance’s watch.
Carrie eyed Madelyn solemnly. “Tell Andrew to watch his back. Elijah is more dangerous than the rumors made him out to be.”
Madelyn’s brows rose slightly.
Can continued, “Not just anyone can get Jackson to do their bidding, you know. And yet, Elijah got him to speak up this time.”
Jackson Sinclair was Carrie’s direct superior. Those who worked in

journalism were often dauntless when it came to dealing with the rich, and Jackson was famously fearless. Elijah had to be quite a formidable character if he could get Jackson to do his bidding.
Then again, Elijah had survived abroad for the last ten years, which was no easy feat.
Madelyn nodded. “Got it. Is your work affected because of Elijah?”
“Me? Do you think they could get to me so easily?” Carrie drawled. She wouldn’t have written about the scandal between Elena and
Easton if she had been picked on at work.
Madelyn was relieved to hear this. They were just about to continue the conversation when a handsome man walked past them and gave Carrie a pointed look.
Seeing this, Madelyn knew at once that the man was likely a scorned ex–lover.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
“He’s an old acquaintance,” Carrie lied, smiling. “Now, where were we?”
However, Madelyn had already grabbed her purse. She missed Andrew, and she could leave now that she knew Carrie was fine.
Carrie asked, “Are you leaving?”
Madelyn gave her a bemused look and glanced at the handsome man sulking in the corner. She rose to her feet, saying, “You might want to pace yourself before you get yourself into deep trouble.”
“You and I are different, Maddie. You were all about Easton for a time, remember? And now, you’ve professed your undying love for Andrew,” Carrie pointed out. She had seen all the articles about Madelyn and Andrew. It was clear that Madelyn had poured her heart and soul for Andrew.
Her teasing remark earned her a dirty look from Madelyn, Carrie

at the last minute. Kudos to you.”
In the past, anyone who saw Madelyn might think she would be saddled with a loser like Easton.
Madelyn glanced at her watch. It was still too early for her to head to Miller Group. She might end up waiting for hours before Andrew got off work, but she missed him too much to care.
She hailed a cab to take her to Miller Group. When the receptionist saw her, she stood up and greeted respectfully, “Good day, Mrs. Miller.
“Good day,” Madelyn greeted in return. She handed the pastries she had bought to the receptionist and said, “These are for you and the
others at the front desk.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Miller,” the receptionist said, beaming. She then happily escorted Madelyn to the private elevator.
The elevator took Madelyn straight up to the top floor. As she
stepped out of the elevator, she noticed that the secretarial
department was in a frenzy. It seemed like they were preparing for some important event.
From what Madelyn heard, she gathered that one of the
entertainment agencies under Miller Group’s umbrella was slated to attend an afternoon meeting here.
“Do you think Natalie will be here for the annual meeting?” one of the secretaries asked.
“Of course!H / can she not when Mr. Miller values her so much? She’s expected to show up for important meetings like this one.”
There was someone from that agency that Andrew valued the most, and she was a woman, no less. Madelyn raised a brow as the two gossiping secretaries walked past her, too engrossed in their conversation to notice her.
