Love's Redemption

Redmption 122

Redmption 122

Chapter 122

The awkwardness in the air was palpable, but letting Brandon know the truth

was a relief.

He grabbed his phone from the table and walked out.

Kara immediately exclaimed, “It’s over.”

But I wasn’t fazed. I had never intended to develop anything with Brandon, so I

wasn’t bothered whether he was upset or misunderstood.

After all, we were just two people who happened to cross paths. I wasn’t planning to get into a relationship either.

But it wasn’t that one heartbreak that made me swear off love. I just didn’t have

the energy for it right now.

After breakfast, I planned to drop Kara off at work and then head to my interview. I had only sent out my résumé yesterday and was surprised to

receive an interview invitation this morning.

The quick response was unexpected, but it was also good to start work early.

When I arrived at the parking lot, I saw Conrad’s car. He parked, got out, and opened the back door.

Bree stepped out. They were here to see me.

“Bree,” I greeted her.

“Maddie.” Bree took my hand, and tears immediately welled up in her eyes.

Her reaction left me at a loss. I looked to Conrad, who handed her a handkerchief. “Mom, you’re going to scare Maddie like this. Just tell her what’s on your mind. Why are you crying?”

Bree took the handkerchief from Conrad and dabbed at her eyes. “Maddie, let’s

go home and talk, okay?”

I looked at Conrad again, and he explained, “My mom couldn’t reach you by phone, and you weren’t responding to her messages.

“She was so worried that she didn’t sleep all night and insisted I bring her to

find you. She knows about Chris now.”

I had anticipated that this was the reason for her unexpected visit.

“Bree, let’s go to the restaurant. You probably haven’t had breakfast. We can

talk while we eat,” I suggested, not wanting to go to Gildon Estate.

Bree shook her head. “I don’t feel like eating.”

“Then, let’s just talk,” I insisted, and she nodded in agreement.

I turned to Conrad. “You should take Kara to the amusement park, then. I’ll stay

with Bree and take her home afterward.”

Conrad glanced at Bree and then nodded at me. “Thanks.”

Kara left with Conrad, and I took Bree to the restaurant. I went to order

breakfast, but she declined.

However, I insisted and ordered her favorite breakfast anyway.

“Maddie, I know what that jerk Chris did. It’s not your fault. He deserved that hit.

Bree’s words made me lower my gaze.

“Maddie, it’s my fault for not raising him better. He messed up so many times and ended up hurting you.” Bree shook her head regretfully.

I bit my lip and replied, “Bree, it’s not your fault. It’s Chris‘. He’s not a child

anymore.”

Though I wasn’t sure of Bree’s intentions for coming, I was certain she wanted to convince me to forgive Chris.

Whether I forgave him or not was irrelevant at this point, but I feared Bree still hoped for us to get back together. © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

Bree nodded. “You’re right. Don’t carry that guilt.”

“Bree, you’re overthinking it. I’m not burdened because I did nothing wrong.”

My firm statement caught Bree off guard.

She quickly nodded. “Yes, yes. You’re right. It’s Chris‘ fault.”

I remained silent as Bree continued, “Maddie, Zack doesn’t think your quit either. Chris will apologize personally and ask you to come back.”
