Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Earlier, when the servant came and told Lenny about Rosaline, Scarlet wasn't asleep. Lenny had told
her that he would leave after she fell asleep. To not make things difficult for him, she pretended to be
asleep.
Lenny couldn't help feeling moved by her thoughtfulness.
He knew very little about his ex-wife. She had a petite body that made her look weak, but it seemed to
contain endless power. She was tenacious, reasonable, and, at times, selfless to a fault.
Although he hadn't spent much time with her, he felt very comfortable whenever he was around her.
However, in his heart, there was only one woman, and it was Rosaline. He and Rosaline were brought
together by that fateful night.
That night, he took her hungrily, passionately, and almost violently. Her petite body suffered from his
fierce thrusts and movements. She was begging and crying and appeared to be in great pain, but still,
she surrendered.
At that moment, the remaining slivers of his sanity told him to be responsible for her and not fail her.
Even though he realized that he didn't like Rosaline as much as he thought, it didn't matter. She was
pregnant with his child, and only a terrible man would walk away from his own family.
Lenny had promised himself that he would be a good husband and father and that other women would
mean nothing to him.
Thinking of this, he suddenly felt irritable. The more he reminded himself about that, the more upset he
became. He felt uncomfortable, as if there was a huge stone pressing on his chest, making it difficult
for him to breathe.
He frowned, took a deep breath, and drank a cup of coffee in the middle of the night to refresh himself.
He stopped himself from thinking too much. He buried himself in his work and numbed his nerves with
business concerns. When he finished, it was already one o'clock in the morning.
He felt exhausted after working for so long.
When he walked out of the study, he found that the lights downstairs were on and that Scarlet's door
was ajar.
Did she go downstairs?
Narrowing his eyes and knitting his brows, Lenny went downstairs without a second thought.
He found Scarlet in the kitchen. She had put on an apron and was standing over a small, steaming pot
of noodles on the stove.
Scarlet didn't eat much during dinner, so she ended up awake and hungry in the middle of the night.
She got out of bed to get something to eat. She didn't want to disturb the servants. After all, they were
all tired from working all day.
She wanted to make herself some noodles with eggs and tomatoes. She carefully moved around the
kitchen. When she was about to slice a tomato with a knife, she cut her finger by accident, and blood
instantly oozed out.
"Ouch!"
She gasped and winced in pain.
"Why are you so careless?" Lenny said in a reproachful tone.
He walked over to her and checked her wound. Then, he took her to the living room and grabbed the
first aid kit. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
"You... You aren't asleep yet?" Scarlet was stunned. She thought everyone had already gone to bed.
Arching his eyebrows, Lenny asked, "Why aren't you asleep?"
"I... I got hungry."
"This makes me wonder how you got by in the past," Lenny said unhappily. He then disinfected her
wound, applied some medicine, and bandaged her finger.
"I... I guess I just muddled through somehow," Scarlet said casually and pulled her hand back.
She asked, "Well, I want to eat some noodles. Would you like to join me?"
Lenny wanted to refuse because he wasn't used to having a midnight snack.
But when he smelled what Scarlet was cooking, he suddenly felt his stomach grumble.
He made up his mind and agreed, "Okay."
"Then I'll add two eggs for you."
Scarlet stood up and went back to the kitchen to continue cooking. Soon, two bowls of hot noodles
were ready.
Scarlet was so hungry that she gulped down her bowl of noodles like it wasn't piping hot. A haze of
steam covered her oval-shaped, delicate face.
Her eyes were as bright and beautiful as a starry night sky.
Lenny couldn't take his eyes off of her.
She pouted and blew on her noodles to cool it down a bit.
Looking at Scarlet's pink, pouted lips, Lenny found himself swallowing and felt his heart skip a beat.
He actually... wanted to taste her lips.
Damn it. He quickly looked away and suppressed his thoughts.
"Why aren't you eating your noodles? If they stick together, they won't taste as good anymore," Scarlet
raised her head and asked in confusion.
Lenny didn't respond. He just started eating his noodles.
Scarlet watched Lenny as he ate. Even when he was dining, he looked elegant and noble.
Looking at him, she couldn't help sighing from the bottom of her heart.
