I Fell For The Boy His Daddy Was A Bonus

Chapter 26

Chapter 26

Chapter 26: The Original Miss Barnes “Me? I am not expecting anybody.” Courtney turned to Luca’s curious face, and she shrugged. “Aurora, we are in the middle of a very important discussion,” Cindy reminded. She walked over to the door with her blood still boiling, angered at Scarlett’s earlier announcement.

“Misses Barnes, it‘s just that he insisted, and he did not look like a simpleton,” Aurora reasoned. Her eyes briefly looked back, as if checking if the visitor followed behind her.

“Who is it then?” Courtney inquired. “His name is Kaleb Wright,” Aurora replied, her eyes going to Courtney as if trying to find an answer. “I thought the last name was very familiar.” “Kaleb Wright?” Luca asked. His face could not help but frown following yesterday’s encounter with the man at The Wright Diamond Corporation. He cast Courtney a puzzled look, asking, “And why would he be looking for you, Courtney?”

“Um. I’m not sure. Maybe at the gala?” Courtney blushed. She instantly recalled an event that went back four months ago. Her family was formally introduced to the Wrights, especially the CEO, Kyle Wright, and then Kaleb Wright. The Wright brothers were just oozing with greatness. How she wished to be their lover. Sadly, Kyle Wright was already married and there were many talks about how he doted on his wife. Kaleb, on the other hand, was single and available. “Ah, yes, that‘s right, Courtney. Perhaps that was it,” Cindy suggested, but she hurriedly frowned. “I thought we never made an impression. They barely glanced at us. This is really a surprise!” “But why would Kaleb Wright be here?” Luca probed, his hands resting on his waist. “My love, maybe because it was I who initially sent the meeting request to his assistant?” Courtney inquired. “And perhaps, after your encounter with him, he changed his mind? Maybe he regretted his decision?”

Courtney bit her lip. Her eyes sparkled at the thought of Kaleb Wright. When she emailed the request to Kaleb‘s office, she purposely put her photo on her signature, hoping it would catch the man’s attention.

Who did not want to catch Kaleb‘s eye? He was the most eligible bachelor in the city. There were stories about Kaleb having a bastard child, but that did not matter to her. At least, not yet. Meanwhile, Scarlett turned around from her family. She was really irritated and now, hearing how Kaleb had arrived, she was once again entertained. ‘Was there only one daughter of the Barnes?’

Yes. She supposed, to them, that was the case. She laughed inwardly at how they all thought Kaleb was looking for Courtney. “What do we do?” Cindy asked, her eyes landing on Philip. “My husband is really tired and then.” Giving Scarlett a death glare, Cindy added, “And then we have to deal with Scarlett?”

“But mother! We cannot miss this opportunity. This is Kaleb Wright, we are talking about,” Courtney objected. “We have to speak to him for the sake of Luca’s law firm.”

‘He is the only single man of the Wright family! I have to charm him.’ In Courtney’s heart, she yearned for something else. Helping Luca was only an act. Between Luca and Kaleb, the latter was the gold mine.

Courtney was sharp to turn to Philip, saying, “Father. We should see the visitor. And don’t worry, I‘ll talk to sister Scarlett about her plans to contest the will. I promise I‘ll have her agree by the end of this week.”

Pecking on Philip‘s cheek, she suggested, “You rest for now.” “Actually, there is no need to worry. The will is already final.” Luca glanced at Scarlett before suggesting. “There is nothing that Scarlett can do about it. She can try to contest it, but she will never have enough money to pursue her claims.” Luca watched as Scarlett shifted her attention to him. He merely scoffed and urged, “Let‘s go see our valued guest. There is no need to listen to Scarlett.”

While the three hastily went in search of Kaleb Wright, Scarlett took her time to study the will once more. She folded her copy neatly into her bag before slowly leaving Luca’s associates inside the study. She knew her time was over at the Barnes‘ mansion. Luca was right. The will was technically signed, but it did not mean she could not contest it.

In the living room of the Barnes mansion, Cindy and Courtney walked in with huge smiles on their faces. Luca followed behind them.

Even as a woman who was old enough to be Kaleb‘s mother, Cindy was taken aback by the man‘s attractive features. She acknowledged how Kaleb had these striking blue eyes that seemed to gobble her whole. The sharp details on his face kept her eyes fixated on him. He towered over all of them, and his Armani suit stretched nicely against his broad shoulders.

It was the same with Courtney. She also could not help but ogle on his handsome face before she examined his long legs. Next, she boldly took a whiff of his manly, spicy scent before she offered her arms, and greeted, “Mister Wright. It‘s so nice to see you here!”

“Oh, my. How did you find our address – “Courtney was over the moon, but her excitement was cut short when Kaleb passed her his coat.

“I did not know where to hang these,” Kaleb revealed, his eyes looking casually at Courtney.“ And do you mind getting me a glass of water? I‘m very thirsty.”

Courtney froze. Her mouth fell open, utterly shocked. “Um. I‘m sorry?”

“I need water, please. Very cold water,” Kaleb said. “Please hurry up.” Courtney, “...” Cindy was also baffled. She peered back, finding Luca, and then she returned her attention to Kaleb. She supposed there was nothing wrong about giving their surprised guest a glass of water. Cindy replied on behalf of Courtney, “Of course, Mister Wright. We‘ll have our maid bring you a glass of cold water.”

Just as Cindy required one maid to fetch the glass of water, Luca came up to the front, offering

his hand to Kaleb. “Mister Wright. I‘m surprised to see you here.”

Kaleb remained standing. He turned to Courtney with his brows meeting. Then he glanced back at Luca, asking, “Luca James. Why are you here?” “Shouldn‘t I be asking you this question, Mister Wright?” Luca sought. “Are you here to talk about my offer, considering you are looking for my fiance?” “Looking.” Kaleb’s lips twitched as he clarified, “For your fiance?”

“Mister Wright. I don‘t know if you remember me. My name is Cindy Barnes. We met in the last gala dinner, about four months ago – actually, we have met on many occasions at charity events, but we never got to mingle with your family,” Cindy described. “Yes, my security guard reminded me of how I had met you and your husband before,” Kaleb said outright.

For a second, an awkward silence fell upon them. Courtney and Cindy contemplated whether to feel happy or feel degraded at what Kaleb reported.

“I guess it’s nice of your bodyguard to remember us,” Cindy said hesitantly. “Oh, it‘s our bodyguards‘ jobs to know exactly who are invited to these events. You know.” Kaleb turned to Courtney and stated, “Just in case we ran into… some snakes.” Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

“Snakes?” Cindy asked while raising a brow.

“Yes, snakes,” Kaleb confirmed, followed by a playful smirk. “By definition, a person who tells lies and betrays others. Snakes. We can never be too sure about the people we talk to. It‘s best we have our guards up.”

“Yes. Indeed,” Cindy hesitantly acknowledged before she resumed explaining what she meant to say earlier. “Mister Wright, Luca is my daughter‘s fiance. That is why he is here.” “Your daughter‘s fiance?” Kaleb repeated, his torso leaning back, his face reflected only perplexity. Just then, the maid walked in, bringing an ice–filled glass of water, and handed it to Kaleb. He gulped it, but instead of giving it to the maid, he handed the glass to Courtney. He said, “Here you go.” For a moment, everyone fell mute. Only Kaleb broke the awkward silence, saying, “So, Luca is your daughter‘s fiance?”. “Yes.” Cindy pointed to Courtney, who remained dumbfounded after being handed an empty glass. Cindy said, “This is Courtney,

my daughter. You were looking for my daughter, right?” Promptly taking his coat from Courtney, Kaleb said, “Oh! Sorry! I thought she was a maid!” Cindy,“...” Courtney, “...

Luca, “...”

“I‘m sorry for the mistake,” Kaleb apologized, looking straight at Courtney. “It‘s just that you remind me of my nana back in the days. She looked exactly like you now. Great job! They say…

life begins at forty.”

Cindy, “...”

Courtney, “...”

Luca, “...”

If that was not enough, Kaleb quickly fished something out of his trouser pocket and took out a small disinfectant aerosol, and purposely sprayed it in the areas where Courtney had held his coat.

That instant, Courtney paled.

Simultaneously, Luca‘s face formed a sneer. ‘Does he think Courtney is infectious?”

When Kaleb was sterilizing his coat, he took a deep breath and said, “Sorry for any confusion, but I did not come here for Luca‘s fiance.”

Bewilderment flashed across all the faces of Luca, Courtney, and Cindy, but quickly, Kaleb showed them the answer they were dying to pursue. He declared, “Oh, there is the girl I came here for. The original miss Barnes, my girlfriend.”

He walked past the three, his frame easily finding Scarlett. He gave her the most flirtatious grin before his lips landed on hers. His hand reached for the back of her neck, forcing Scarlett to open her mouth. Without a care in the world, he kissed her deeply.
