“PRETEND TO LOVE FINN”

Mr Finn Lakston had passed by us; to my greatest surprised he ignored me, he went ahead to sit on the nearest vacant seat. Somehow, I was scared that he might do the worst to me.

I watched him eat while I ate slowly with shaky hand.

Evelyn and Adam had noticed.

“So what did you say to Finn when he confessed his feelings for you?” Evelyn asked.

“Of course, I turned him down” I answered innocently.

“Now it looks like you’re regretting that you did” Adam observed.

I sighed heavily: “I’m just a little scared that he might change towards me again, didn’t you see how he just acted like I’m not existing” I spoke soberly.

“You shouldn’t have turned Finn down. That’s a little harsh” Evelyn remarked.

“Why not? I’m in a serious relationship now with a serious boyfriend, Zane” I reminded her.

“I know, I know. You should have at least pretended to be interested in him too”

“Evelyn!” Her boyfriend shunned.

“Chill Adam, I’m not asking her to date Mr Finn, she should.. uhm play along, just for the fun of it, or maybe for his money. She won’t loose anything afterall. Or maybe she should come into his life as a friend”

“Oh yes! He asked me to be his friend. I.. I uhm, I think I rejected his offer too”

“What? You’re so lucky Rita but you chose to be unlucky. What are you thinking? Mr Finn literally gave you free access into his motherfucking wealthy life” She was raising her voice uncautiously.

“Evelyn, c’mon” Adam cautioned.

“Ugh!” She shook her head; maybe disappointed at my stupidity.

“Rita, being Finn’s close friend will save you from a whole lot of things, you get to be treated nicely, we also get to enjoy his preferential treatment being your best friends” Adam urged me calmly.

“Exactly” Evelyn supported.

“But Rita, you have to be very careful not to get carried away by golds and silvers”

” Rita is not that kind of girl. She doesn’t even like Finn one bit”

“I don’t like him one bit” I repeated after her in a low tone.

“Good. So this is why you have to pretend that you do” Evelyn said.

I nodded my head in affirmation and stood up; “I’ll go to him now and take back my words. What do you think?”

“Good” Evelyn raised her thumbs up.

I inhaled and exhaled heavily, summoning up the confidence to pretend, then I walked towards where Mr Finn sat.

“Hi Mr Finn Lakston” I smiled widely and sat in front of him.

“Hi Rita” He responded sheepishly at first but he finally smiled; perhaps he couldn’t avoid his crush on me.

“Or can I just say Finn, like hi Finn, can I join you at the table as a friend?” Thus, I acted; action!

“You finally wanna be my friend?” He exclaimed, beaming.

“Yes! Yes! Finn” I responded.

“Oh wow! I guess your colleagues will get used to seeing both of us together!” He said then whispered discreetly; “You are my favourite employee” I forced a blush, flung my hair; acting all charming and beautiful.

“I was in a bad mood that very saturday you came visiting. I…I need you to believe that I didn’t mean every single word I said to you” I spoke solemnly, touching his hand; I’m sure it sent cold shivers into his vein.

“But since you wanna be my friend, you’re gonna date me. That’s what I said, ‘if you’d date me, be my friend'” He reminded me.

Oops! I flapped a little but I didn’t let him notice it.

“C’mon slowly. Friends first? Isn’t that what you also said?” I reminded him and he laughed.

“Okay. I’m happy we are getting along gradually” Unexpectedly, he stood up, spread his hands apart beckoning me to come embrace him.

I gave a weird laughter, got on my foot too and gave him a light hug. We had our seats after that, interacted freely, discussed about random stuffs but Finn seems to be more interested in my relationship. He profounded the communication to the subject Love but I stylished waved it away to discuss about other random stuff. I’m not sure of how long I can keep up with this.

When we returned to the office after recess period, I told Adam and Evelyn everything that happened between Finn and I.

“Aish! I so much hate that guy” Adam whined.

“But he likes Rita not me. Why do you still hate him?” Evelyn questioned.

“I just do not like the aura that comes from him. The fact that he thinks he can get everything he wants. He disgust me”

“Finn is the boss” I cut in.

“Adam is just upset that our boss is his agemate yet he has to listen to whatever he says”

“Whatever” Adam smirked.

“Hmmn guys, don’t you think playing along with Finn is tad way too extreme. Finn doesn’t seem to lose interest in me” I told them.

“Nah! Rita, the plan isn’t for him to lose interest in you, of course; it’s never easy. I want you to get on his good side, there is a lot to benefit from that” Evelyn said.

“Evelyn, Finn really likes me and he is moving things too fast. He wants to be more than just friends, he wants to date me” I complained.

“I told you he thinks he can get everything and he will make sure he does!” Adam smirtled.

“Date him” Evelyn advised.

“What?? Why?” I and her boyfriend exclaimed.

“I mean.. a fake one. Even if he takes things too real, just have it at the back of your mind that it’s all fake. Continue to play along Rita, you can do this ” She encouraged.

“Evelyn, Rita has a boyfriend”

“I know” She responded bluntly.

“Which means you could double date me?” He asked.

“No.. I mean, it’s all fake besides, Rita’s boyfriend, Zane is online; he’s not around. So it’s not like she is cheating on him anyways”

“I really love Zane. I do not wanna cheat on him” I uttered assiduously.

“No dear, you are not”

“In case you have forgotten Evelyn, Zane is my friend. I don’t wanna see him get hurt”Adam added.

“So are literally saying you’re gonna act like a spy and report every single thing Rita does to your old best friend, Zane. That makes you a bad friend to Rita and I” Evelyn argued.Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.

“You two should stop arguing over silly stuffs like this; I will decide what to do myself. Also, I will let my boyfriend know only what he needs to know” I cut in sharply; my ears were full of their argument already.
