ADAM KNOWS ZANE!

Rita’s POV

“It’s so great, speaking to you 24. 7”

I placed my phone on loud speaker that Sunday evening while I was cooking.

“I know right. We usually spend only less than half of the day with eachother during the weekdays” Zane said.

“We should do this more often. I’m preparing stir-fri noodles. What about you?” I inquired because earlier, we agreed to carry out the same activities together at the same time.

“Same here. I’m a great cook” He boasted and I gave a short laugh. “Then we’ll see a movie together while we eat right?”

“Absolutely!” I agreed. ” Same movie, titled Dawn Of Love. I’ve seen it before but I want you to see it too, it’s my all time favorite movie”

“Anything for you, your highness” He giggled.

I guess this way of doing things together won’t make us notice that we’re far apart.

Our meal was ready almost at the same time, we literally ate together and watched the movie at the same time or together rather. I made sure he enjoyed the movie as much as I did but then, I doze off.

Until I heard an audible muscular voice saying ‘wakey wakey’.

I almost jumped out of the bed before realizing the voice was coming from a phone call.

“Are you awake now Rita?”

“Zane, I’m sorry I slept off. And it’s morning already”

“I enjoyed the movie last night and it’s really great to literally sleep next to you” He commented and I chuckled.

“I have to end the call now. I need to go get ready for work” I informed him.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Same here, bye my love”

I said the same.

“Hey, good morning Evelyn” We pecked eachother’s cheek when I arrived at the office.

“Where’s Adam?” I asked when I didn’t see him around. Normally, he gets to the office earlier, spend more time at our department then leave for his department later.

“I… I don’t know” Evelyn mumbled perfunctorily. “Morning Rita” I noticed she forced a smile.

“Oh! There he is, your boyfriend” I saw Adam approaching towards us.

“You didn’t know he is around?”

“I.. I didn’t know” She replied coldly, shrugged and rolled her eyes.

“Good morning Rita” Adam beamed when he drew closer to where we were.

“Good morning to you too” I responded.

“How was the weekend?” He probed further.

“It was great, really great” I responded, referring to my interesting chit chat with Zane throughout yesterday.

“Oh! I’ve got good news for you” Adam apprised…

“I love good news” I cheered anxiously.

“Your online boyfriend Zane, is he Zane Withney?” Adam inquired, squinting his eyes.

“How do you know his full name.?” I shrieked: “Your right, Withney is his last name!”

“Oh My God!!” He exclaimed.

“What happened? Is there anything you wanna say to me?” I was very curious, this has to do with my man!

“Zane Witheny, your boyfriend and I went to the same college!” Adam announced, clapping his hands.

“Really?” Evelyn and I exclaimed simultaneously. It was then it dawn to that Evelyn was mute while I and her boyfriend were cheery and conversing.

“Yes, really. So after the conversation I had with you last Friday, I was concerned too and I went ahead to search up for his name, turns out he was someone I know” Adam said showing us his chat with Zane.

Adam had asked for his surname and the name of college he attended and his course of study. It turns out they were acquainted and they had an amicable dialogue there after.

“He didn’t tell me any of this”

“How does Zane look like?” I asked eagerly.

“Zane was the hottest guy back then in college, I mean.. me too but he had more entourages. We were pretty close, Zane is a very great guy. Oh my God Rita! You are so great to have him” Adam encouraged and I was so heartened.

I blushed, smiling heavily.

“What else? Does he.. he have any…uhm scar or something weird on his face?” I inquired furthered because that’s what Mrs Janet Johnson told me.

“No!” He blurted. “I just said that he was the hottest and a popular guy in school. If he has something weird on his face, that would make him the ugliest guy not a popular guy” Adam tittered.

“Nevermind. You saw him last at college anyways” I murmured. He probably had the scar after college or of recent.

“I feel bad that I didn’t trust him earlier now you have just confirm that you are acquainted with him. That’s more than enough proof that I have absolutely nothing to worry about” I told them.

“Yeah and it’s great being a friend of your boyfriend”

“Exactly. Coincidentally, he wanted me to introduce you guys to him. Evelyn, you should send him a text via Kikachat introducing yourself to him as my best friend” I told her.

“Roger that. I’ll do that right away bestie” Evelyn said, picking up her phone.

“Uhm, so i’ll return to my department now” Adam said, feeling somehow uncomfortable.

“Good, leave” Evelyn said brusquely.

Huh! I looked at both of them. I was engrossed with Zane topic that I barely noticed that something was wrong with both of them, they barely spoke to each other.

“Are you guys Okay?” I asked, looking at them suspiciously.

“No” Adam replied honestly.

“Yes” Evelyn said simultaneously then she hissed while Adam left.

“What’s wrong with both of you?” I interrogated but she wouldn’t respond.

Neither did we talk about it while we attended to clients later that day.

When we arrived at the office restaurant during recess period, I observed that Adam and Evelyn still weren’t comfortable around eachother.

There were four seats around a rectangular centre table. Evelyn usually sat next to her boyfriend, leaving a blank seat next to mine but this time, she sat beside me.

“Now, will you both tell me what’s wrong?” I asked but they didn’t say a word. “Speak!” I hit the table imperiously.

“She’s still mad at me because I overreacted about Finn’s issue”

“Ugh!! Finn? Does this have to do with what happened last Friday?” I questioned and Adam nodded.

“And Evelyn says I’m too clingy” He frankly, added.

“I don’t wanna date a clingy boyfriend. I think we should go our separate ways” Evelyn murmured, with a malevolent facial expression.

“For no reason are you meant to be mad, I’m the one who was hurt. Evelyn you flirt with other guys in my presence” Adam said.

“Flirt? You think I was flirting with Zane?! You jealous freak!”

“Enough! I’m still here” I cautioned, hitting the table again.

“Of course Rita, you brought it up. We were cool avoiding each other ” Evelyn grumbled rolled her eyes.

“I hate this animosity between both of you. Come on! You guys are quarreling over Finn” I spoke.

“Obviously” Adam replied.

I shook my head: ” I was wrong when I said Finn likes Evelyn. He.. uhm, came to my place during the weekend to confess that he had feelings for me”

“What?” They exclaimed.

“He has no feelings for Evelyn. I’m the one he likes, I’m the one he is after, it has always been me not Evelyn” I told them.

Hmmn, They were mute.

“And you guys are at the edge of breaking up with eachother because of a slight misunderstanding” I shook my head again then signaled at the waiter to bring us food.

“Are you sure about that?” Adam asked.

“I’m not tryna boast but clearly, it has always been me Adam, so stop being jealous or clingy when you see them together and you Evelyn, stop giving Finn a green light because you think he’s tryna make advances towards you. No please” I spoke to them like a mother or an elderly one. “Janet Johnson was right when she said the main root of quarrel between lovers is Misunderstanding. You both really need her intervention in your affair” I sniggered.

“No” They blurted at the same time.

“Why not? Trust me, Janet Johnson is really great at her job. Zane and I had a small quarrel during the weekend and she helped us resolve it as soon as possible. I’m sure you can book an online session with her” I urged them.

They usually quarrel over the slightest issue.

“No please. We don’t want a fourth party” Evelyn said.

“That right. I agree with Evelyn”

“You can be the third and only party involved in our lovers quarrel and that’s because you’ve always been our best friend from day one” Evelyn added.

“I agree with Evelyn a hundred percent. We are not disclosing our affair with someone else” Adam added.

I watched both of them have a high five then Evelyn moved over to sit next to her boyfriend whom in turn, placed his hand over her neck.

“What a good job I must have done then” I smiled but Evelyn scorned at me, then faced Adam squarely.

“I’m sorry for everything” Evelyn apologized.

Adam intertwined fingers with her, kissed hers and said: “I’m sorry too my love”

“Awwn” I smiled. “As it should be. Ugh! I really can’t imagine ignoring someone I see everyday at work” I said.

“Okay. We are back together again. Can you please not make reference to that. It’a bygone now?” Evelyn said.

“Okay, Okay”

“Let’s eat guys” Adam said when the waiter approached us to serve our meal.
