Despite the pain gnawing in Susan's heart, her strong mental fortitude allowed her voice to stay steady as she said, “It's up to you, Mr. Ford.”

That was what Tobias liked about her—she was quick to decide. Alas, he never once cared about what she felt.

He said, “I'll ask Skylar about it. You'll be getting double your current pay. Once she's more mature and independent, you'll come back.”

Susan nodded, still silent. Even though she was merely an assistant at Ford Group, she had risen to the top. Not even the shareholders dared to offend her.

She wondered how many people in the company would laugh and jeer at her upon finding out that Tobias had abruptly made her the assistant of an unpopular artiste.

While thinking about that, Susan packed Skylar's identity card and charger into a bag and placed it on the bedside table. Skylar would be able to spot the bag easily when she came back for her belongings.

The audition was at Southside Park. It was another modern show, and the filming would take three months.

The director liked the lively demeanor that Skylar had, and that was why he had asked her to come to the audition at Newcove. The original lead female was Layla Summerhill, but news about Layla's secret marriage and child had broken out lately.

Therefore, the production crew had no choice but to give up on her. The production crew was already unhappy with Layla previously, but her company continued to promote her.

In the end, the production crew decided to get someone else.

They said that she was not as pretty as she used to be before her labor. Her hairline was receding, she was hunching, and her eyes were dull; she no longer had the sensation of a lively young woman.

On the other hand, Skylar was young and sweet. She was the poster child of youth, and her fans agreed with that.

Furthermore, Skylar was in a much better state than Layla, and her future was limitless. Most importantly, her bare face looked youthful enough.

Everyone would have had a crush on someone like her back in their studying days.

After the audition, the lead director, Emily Olson, asked, “Be honest with me, Skylar. Are you in a relationship? Are you married? Do you have kids?”

The abrupt questions stunned Skylar, but she shook her head. It seemed like Emily was terrorized by Layla's incident and was afraid that history would repeat itself.

If Emily was asking her these questions, that meant that her audition did not go too badly.

Emily continued, “You work mainly in movies. I'm satisfied with your performance so far, but what happens next is up to the discussion with your company. Still, you can talk to me about what thoughts you have.”

Skylar frankly replied, “I'm afraid I won't be able to be in movies for a while. The first movie I was in as the lead was a flop, and no producer would invest in me. They're confident that I won't be able to perform well in a movie—that I can only be in television shows to secure my fanbase. I don't have a choice right now; the market is the one choosing me.”

Hearing that, Emily laughed. “You're realistic. Not bad. We did think about your influence previously, and you've performed well all along in television shows. I'm fine with you. The movie was a pity. You

Skylar did not continue enquiring. From what the director had said, it seemed like she was likely their first choice as the female lead.

However, she wondered how much they were going to offer her. While her financial crisis would be resolved with the money, she still hoped to get a driving license and a car.

Having a house and a car would make her contented.

She once told Tobias about her wish to get a driving license.

She thought that he would show his support, for he looked down on the people who did not try to improve themselves most. Moreover, she would be gaining a new skill by learning how to drive.
