Denied by Destiny: Trapped in the Shadows of the Mate Bond

Bond 51

Hector POV "Alpha!"

I awoke to a headache. To the excruciating feeling that someone had been shouting in my head all night like a loud thumping speaker at a heavy rock concert. "Whattt?" I yell back, the sensation of being disoriented overtaking me. I was groggy, my throat dry as sunlight seeps through the curtains in my bedroom. "It's Kaia, she's awake..."

"Since when?" I sit up, my head spinning as I remember having no dinner but plenty of whiskey. My eyes casting on the two empty bottles by the side of the bed "Since 3am, she went back to sleep, but is awake again now."

I look at the time on my phone, that I seemed to remember to put on charge before passing out. 8.30am, fuck...I've missed training..

"Damn it Aubrey, I told you to wake me the moment she woke up."

"I've been trying Alpha."

"I'm coming now..." I leap out of bed grabbing my jeans and finding a fresh tshirt from my drawers. I needed a shower, to wash off the smell of whiskey, but that would have to wait. ""...how is she?"

"She's not good. She had to be sedated back to sleep in the end."

Fuck! I knew I shouldn't have left.

I'm back at the hospital in record time. Vaguely remembering which corridors to go down, the memory of carrying Kaia in my arms still too raw.

I find her room, Aubrey sitting next to her on the hospital chair, talking to her...but Kaia seems vacant.

Her eyes blank.

Void of emotions.

What exactly has she been given.

As soon as I push open the door, her body stiffens.

"Kaia?" Her shoulders wince as I call her name.

"How are you feeling?"

At first she completely ignores me, and I wonder if she actually heard me.

When I go to ask the same question again, her head turns to look at me. Her eyes red and puffy from the

tears she must have shed, yet still hold an unrelenting strength to glare at me.

It was safe to say she remembered the argument, the photograph that bastard had sent.

From the moment I first met her, she had something about her, something that wasn't taught. And I was seeing it again now, but this time on the less favourable side. She was angry at me, but she needs to hear me out to understand.

"I'll give you both a moment alone." Aubrey softly says as she stands up, her hand brushing against Kaia's. Before she leaves she signals for the nurse to join her.

"Kaia, I need to explain. What you found, the photograph was taken a long time ago. Alora..."

"The doctor said I could leave after lunch..."

She abruptly cuts me off, as if she didn't hear a word I said. Her voice loud, like a foghorn that needed to drown out any other noise in order to be heard. "Okay...." I'm not sure where she is going with this.

"When I am discharged I would like to be allocated a house by myself.."

"Kaia that's not necessary, you need understand that Alora..."

Your mate bond is none of my business. I would like to request a house in a private part of the pack, preferably away from the alpha and pack house."

Her voice is cold, her eyes showing no emotion in them whatsoever.

"Kaia..." Her request was wholly unnecessary. If she would just let me explain.NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.

"She's hurting, just give her some time. She needs to grieve the loss of the baby." My wolf quite rightly comments in my head. He was right, she needed some space and if granting her that helped her to recovery, then so be it. But first she needs to let me explain. "Alright Kaia, if that is what you want. But not until you have returned to the alpha house to let me explain."

I give her space, asking Aubrey to return and remain with her until she was discharged.

She returned home to me in the early afternoon, her body weak...Aubrey helping to support her as she walks.

As they enter the alpha house, I am in the office with Ezra, both of us moving to meet Kaia by the bottom of the stairs.

Ezra had covered training for me this morning and most of my business affairs. My mind, not surprisingly, having been distracted on other matters.

"Kaia, let me explain." I take a step forward, wanting to tell her everything. As much as it would pain me to share, I need her to know to help her understand.

"I can't, not now Alpha. I need to sleep." Her eyes are becoming droopy again.

"Will you join me for dinner?"

"The doctor has said she needs to sleep as much as she can Alpha. I'm sure with some rest Miss Kaia

will be down for dinner." Aubrey offers, as she starts walking Kaia up the stairs.

""Of course."

But she doesn't join me for dinner. She remains in her room for the rest of the day.

At 9pm, an incredibly tired Aubrey checks on Kaia with a plate of food but finds her sleeping soundly. She must need the rest, her body recovering and needing time to heal. At breakfast, at breakfast I will tell her all.
