Chapter 33
As cold as ice, pale as death was the frown lurking on Paxton’s face. He stood at the hallway, peeking through the window, taking long glances at Sydney as she stuttered back to her chair. He saw her pick her phone up and leaned further watching her face, she had picked up her phone but dropped it the instant she noticed him.
Seeing that he was causing her discomfort he left after a while.
“Hahh..” Sydney sighed in relief as he advanced into the hallway. She made sure he was out of sight before proceeding to call Jaxton back.
The phone was on dial and rang for a few seconds before the baritone voice of Jaxton came on. “Though you misplaced your phone, you won’t possibly deny not seeing my calls cause I know you’re with your phone.” He said levely. He was angry with her and she ought to know.
“Just calm down okay, it wasn’t on purpose”
“Excuses Nicole, excuses..”
“Can you just let me finish?”she pauses to catch her breath and once she gains his attention she speaks further. “Listen, Paxton was here, livid with anger. He seems to know what’s going on–”
“What do you mean?” He crook.
“He came in here to accuse me of seducing you and also–” she dipped her fingers into her hair and sighed. “we should stop calling eachother.”
“Pfft… ” he gruffed. “you’re joking right? For what exactly, Paxton can’t hurt you!”
“Just for today okay. Don’t call me today until I get off work at least until we are sure his anger has quenched.”
“Still–” he tried saying but she cut him off. “there’s no room for lagging off, he threatened to relieve me if my post if he ever find out.” She pressed, rendering him choiceless.
“Okay Nicole; anything you decide, I’m fine with it” he surrendered, his voice laced with disconcept. “Just don’t take it too far cause that will be what I won’t tolera-”C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
Sydney didn’t allow him to finish and hung up.
“Urghhh!!” Jaxton groaned, clearing out the table. He hit his clenched fist on the desk and stared into nothingness.
He doesn’t understand why Paxton was so interested in what he had with Nicole. Not like this was his first time having an affair with an employee, Paxton has been aware of his notorious flirtings and knows the number of employees he has gone to bed with. He has never been interested in any of those nor has he been so inquisitive, why has he suddenly picked interest in Nicole.
Does he find her attractive or… the thought alone angers him. Jaxton was bitter about the whole Paxton thing. His twin has always stayed out of his way at least to flirting and now he’s interested? Hmphh….
“Is he trying to outsmart me like he does in most of the company affairs? Then that will be unacceptable! I won’t give him that opportunity, he might be good in swifting his way into everything but not this one. I will make sure of that!” Jaxton thought to himself.
He went into deep thinking and smiled when an idea occured to him. “what if he makes her his secretary” he grinned but shoved the thought aside as soon as it came. He should just stick to the plan of making Sydney his, yes that’s what he would do.
He would steal Sydney right under Paxton’s nose and watch his reaction then.
Ruffles of files and the clicks of a pen rented the air engulfing Paxton into a stressed mood. He was in his office, his tie loosened and his butts perched on the chair. He wasn’t having the best moments and sitting in his office bent to his desk with files waiting to be attended to wasn’t what he wanted at that moment.
He needed something to ease his mind, he didn’t know why exactly was distracting him but he tried his best fighting it. Paxton couldn’t concentrate on his work and all his thoughts were centered on Sydney.
He couldn’t lift a pen without her name crossing his heart, as much as he tried to stop the thought from coming and focus on his work he couldn’t. With restraining anger he pushed the files away and fell back to the chair and groaned with displeasure.
He couldn’t deny the fact that he was actually jealous and couldn’t place a finger on what he felt when he saw Jaxton and Sydney together earlier that morning.
His muscles swelled up, he unbuttoned the first two buttons on his shirt and rested his on the head rest. He tried to get rid of the anger he was feeling but thinking about it over and over made him realize that it was time he spoke to Jaxton.
He has to warn him about Sydney, the woman is of no use and will cause him difficulty hence he needs to warn Jaxton to steer clear of her. With this thought in mind he stood up and left for Jaxton’s office.
Paxton hasn’t been to Jaxton’s office for a while so it somehow felt new and mostly awkward when he got to his door. “Hmm.. ” he cleared his throat and adjusted his tie before twisting the doorknob.
Jaxton’s secretary had already called to inform him of Paxton’s coming but when Paxton pulled the door open a sigh escaped his throat. He was surprised to see him but quickly put himself to order and offered him a seat.
“Thank you” Paxton mused, glancing around and nodding at intervals whenever his eyes caught something good.
Jaxton followed him with his eyes, still wondering what brought his brother to his office. However, he knew it must have been something really important. Sliding out of his thoughts he asked, “what do I offer you, I have tea and whisky.” He said, staring levely at him.
Paxton raised his eyes to look at him and let out a tiny smirk, “I won’t take too much of your time if that’s what you’re worried about.” He muttered with a grim look.
