Chapter 32
Beads of sweat started to form on her forehead and tension kicked in, putting her into a tight corner.
Her limbs started to quiver, not wanting him to notice she ruffled out a smile and chuckled.
Paxton’s brows creased and he tapped her desk, snapping her out of whatever thoughts she was having. “I asked you a question” his voice was livid and it brushed past her like hot lava.
“I uhm..” she cleared her throat. “He came to pick me up” his brows creased and she added, “of-course I didn’t ask him to, he just appeared from nowhere and I couldn’t turn down the offer.
“You shouldn’t have anything to do with my brother, engaging yourself with him is like playing with fire you either get burnt or roasted.” He purred, barring his teeths as he recounted the previous scene.
Sydney nodded with intent, not wanting to say or do anything that would make him think she did something with Jaxton.
“Halt any intention of getting close to Jaxton, the minute I find out something is up with you both you kiss goodbye to your job because I won’t tolerate it.” His voice was strict and blunt.
“I will always remember that, sir–”
“Can you hear yourself right now? How am I even sure that you’re not the one seducing him just to get in on his good books” her eyes widened. “You’re barely three months here and you’ve started sneaking out from work, slacking off and being a lazy whelp!” His voice was fierce and his tongue lashed her without mercy.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
“Sir, I have done nothing wrong–”
He seized the words in her mouth with just a bash on her desk that put her into another within seconds. Her lips moved to talk back but she knew better so she kept her lips sealed, just for that moment.
“It’s all written all over your face, I try to ignore it but whenever I look at you there’s this obnoxious smell lurking behind you amidst hidden facials” he snarled, bringing his face closer to hers. “You are only with my brother because of his money” her eyes diluted in shock.
“Wh-”
“It reeks so much, smells all over you that I can not keep my nose out of it anymore, golddigger!!” He reverberated, sneering so hard at her that she could see the hate in his eyes.
Not even for once did a feeling of pity crawl to his face, as he stood glaring at her his eyes held no expression. It was void of any emotions whatsoever, the only expression he wore was this look of disdain that was sweeping in mixed feelings into her.
Tears Welled up in her eyes, she was short of words, feeling as though something had walked through her and left her numb shaking. She strained her neck to look at him. His eyes burned with rage and he struggled within himself not to say another word to her.
“Me” she sniffled a breath. “A golddigger?” She hadn’t noticed the goose bumps creeping on her arms until now.
Her breath quickened and she used every muscle in her body to stifle a whimper. She didn’t want to break down in front of him so she took a few steps backwards and ran into the bathroom, crying her eyes out.
Paxton hissed at her fading finger and skipped out of the office. He saw her tears as fake and called her a sneaky and lying woman. As long as he was concerned she was doing all that in an attempt to get his pity and maybe take back his words which he wasn’t ever going to do.
He would never fall into his petty traps, she should better quit acting the victim and face reality, which is nothing but the truth.
Sydney rested her head on the mirror, sobbing quietly as she recalled all what Paxton said to her. The words sliced through her like lava and she couldn’t stop her thoughts from lingering on it.
Her hands pulled out a wipe and she wiped off the mucus dripping down from her nose. The floor was already soiled with them but she kept on crying until she finished all the wipes.
“What did I do to get treated like that? Why does he hate me so much… to what extent is he gonna stop??” Tears fell down her eyes and she crouched to her knees.
Paxton has always been harsh on her but today he tripled it. Why would he call her a golddigger when she has gotten absolutely nothing from Jaxton.
Did he know that the supposed brother he’s trying to protect he’s actually the one making me do all sorts of things just to not reveal her secret…
Of-course he has no idea, he could only wag his tongue and vomit whatever that comes into his mouth.
Sydney felt bad and above all wronged. Paxton is the bossy type but he always acts up on her. He speaks with the others in his usual strict tone but when it’s Sydney he would go ten times harder.
As she sobbed on the restroom’s floor she finally brought herself to believe that what Paxton had for her was beyond hate. He hated her to the core and she has come to accept that.
Sydney pulled herself together and quickly washed up before the others came in. She dried her face with a wipe and walked back into the office.
She noticed her phone had been ringing for a while, she ignored the so many missed calls dropped by Jaxton and proceeded into his seat.
She decided to bury herself in her work and be distracted by it and was about to carry that out when her phone rang again.
The caller ID read “Jaxton” she wanted to take the call but she stopped abruptly when she saw the broad figure of Paxton staring at her from the hallway.
She dropped the phone and picked the files instead. Paxton was paying so much attention to her that she feared he might still call her out even with just dealing with office work.
