Chapter 27 She Is the Maid

She and Edison had been dating for six months and he hadn't taken the initiative to bring her here. She had come here a few times because she insisted on following him.

But he had never allowed her to stay the night, let alone prepared slippers for her.

She hadn't even been up to the second floor and didn't even know what Edison's room looked like.

Why...

Why was Gwenyth allowed to stay here?

How could Edison go so far as to irritate her?

He had a cleanliness fetish!

How could he stand to have someone as lowly as Gwenyth living in the same house with him?

Didn't he feel degraded?

She looked at Edison incredulously. There were questions she wanted to ask, but she couldn't in front of Ismael.

Ismael didn't know that Edison had hired a woman to make her angry.

Because of Edison's stern warning, she didn't dare to mention this when she went to the Yates Mansion early this morning.

She was afraid that Ismael might get sick from the stimulus. This old man was her biggest support.

If she lost his support, Edison would pay less attention to her.

She took a deep breath, pushed down the anger and resentment, and said to Edison with a smile, "Honey, you have to be careful in the future. You can't get hurt again. I'll be worried."

Ignoring her concern, Edison took a few steps over to Ismael and sat down next to him.

"Grandpa, let me know the next time you come."

Ismael glanced at Gwenyth, who was standing to the side, and saw the pink slippers on Gwenyth's feet. Then he said with a slightly displeased expression, "I rushed over before you left the house and you blame me for not informing you in advance?"

"Grandpa, you misunderstood me."

"Eddie, I made up my mind about the marriage between you and Nancy a long time ago. I don't care what you do out there. But don't go too far. And this place is not for anybody. Just because Nancy's always there for you doesn't mean you're right. Don't let her down."

Edison could hear what Ishmael was hinting at.

He looked at Gwenyth and remembered that Nancy had told Ishmael that she was the new center. He wanted to clarify, but he was afraid his grandfather would get sick from the sudden shock. So he said nothing.

His acquiescence made Nancy feel smug.

She took the opportunity to command Gwenyth.

"What are you waiting for? Go and make us some tea."

Gwenyth nodded as an afterthought and walked to the kitchen.

She looked in the cupboard but couldn't find any tea, so she poured a glass of mineral water and brought it to Ismael.

This act irritated Nancy.

"What do you mean by just pouring a glass of water? Can't you see there are three people here?"

"I'll go and pour two more glasses right away."

"You are not old, but why are you so blind? Do you want to do this job or not? If you don't want to do it anymore, you can leave now." Nancy acted angry on purpose.

She was acting for Ismael. At the same time, she was able to make fun of Gwenyth, which made her feel so good.

Ismael could see that Gwenyth had stayed here last night, and he turned a blind eye to Nancy's act.

Gwenyth soon brought two more glasses of water. Just as she put them down, Nancy said indignantly, "Only water for us in the morning? Don't you have any apple pie for us?"

Gwenyth held back her anger and said to Nancy, "Miss Shandy, I've made coffee, salad and pancakes, why don't you go to the restaurant..."

"Who wants coffee? I'm talking about apple pie. Do you speak English?"

Edison's face had darkened.

He hated whiny women, and Nancy's voice was so loud that his head hurt.

"I don't have any apple pie here."

He spoke coldly.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Nancy smiled at him and softened her tone, "No apple pie, huh? Then forget it."

Edison didn't like sweets, so it was natural that he didn't have apple pie for breakfast.

Gwenyth was a little relieved, but Nancy took Ismael's arm and asked, "Grandpa, why don't you have some coffee?"

They had come out early and hadn't had breakfast yet.

Ismael always listened to Nancy. He nodded and Nancy helped him to his feet.

Gwenyth noticed that Nancy had deliberately knocked over a glass of water on the coffee table, and the glass fell to the floor, making a loud noise. The water in the glass was now all over the floor.

"Grandpa, be careful with the glass, don't stub your foot."

Nancy said nervously, "It's my fault. I was so clumsy that I accidentally knocked the glass over."

Ismael was an aged man. How could I not see through her tricks? He smiled faintly and replied, "It's okay."

He took a big step, avoiding the shards of glass on the floor.

Nancy held him, not forgetting to say to Gwenyth, "Are you a fool? What are you looking at? Hurry up and clean the floor."

Edison stayed on the sofa.

He frowned and said nothing. He just stared at Nancy coldly.

Sensing his eyes, Nancy looked over and stuck her tongue out at him, making a face on purpose.

He did not find Nancy adorable in this way. Instead, he found her disgusting.

But Ismael especially liked Nancy, and Edison didn't know why Ismael insisted on making Nancy his granddaughter-in-law. It was as if a spell had been cast on his grandfather.

If it wasn't for his grandfather's fondness for Nancy, he wouldn't have put so much effort into Nancy.

After seeing Nancy and his grandfather enter the restaurant, he looked over at Gwenyth.

She was already crouched on the floor, picking up broken glass.

Fearing she'd cut his hand, he got up and walked over to her, pulling her up off the floor.

"You don't have to do that."

Gwenyth shook his hand away and crouched down again, saying without looking up, "I'm your maid."

Edison's arm was injured because of her, and he let her stay here so she could take care of him.

It didn't seem wrong to say she was a maid.

What could she do, even if she was upset?

These were all people she couldn't afford to mess with.

Frowning, she picked up the broken glass, grabbed a rag and quickly cleaned the water stains from the floor.

"Why are you doing things so slowly? Hurry up and serve the coffee! How much longer do we have to wait?"

Nancy's voice came from the dining room with great dissatisfaction and malice towards Gwenyth, the "maid".

Gwenyth took the cloth into the kitchen, washed her hands and served two cups of coffee to the table. Then she brought out the pancakes and the fried shrimp salad.

Edison looked into the dining room and found Nancy chatting with Ismael while eating pancakes, so he took Gwenyth into the foyer.

He told her to change her shoes, and he himself took off his slippers and put on a pair of casual running shoes.

When she had changed her shoes, he led her out the door and walked on towards the main entrance of the villa area.

"Where are we going?"

Edison's voice was muffled, obviously holding back the fire, "Go to breakfast."

She got up early in the morning to make him coffee and pancakes, but he did not get a chance to take a bite. His good mood was ruined by Nancy.

When Gwenyth lived at the Yates Mansion, he knew that Gwenyth had learned to cook from Ursula. He wanted to try Gwenyth's cooking, but she always said she was not a good cook and was afraid it would not be to his liking.

On the night of her 18th birthday, she promised to make him breakfast the next day.

When he woke up, he was surprised to find that Ursula had quit her job and taken her two daughters out of the house.

Gwenyth had said she liked him that night, but she left early the next morning without saying goodbye.

He hadn't been able to get through to her then and had been looking for her for a long time afterwards.
