Everywhere was so silent when I got to the infirmary. Though I already mind linked Theta Zac to let him know that I am coming to see my mate. Well don’t be surprised, rumors spreads fast like wild fire and everyone in my kingdom already knows that our enemy, alpha Zion’s daughter is my mate.

Theta Zac stopped on track and bowed in respect to me when he joined me in the long hallway leading to several wards.

“Rise up, theta Zac.” I instructed and he straightened up to look up at me.

“My Lord, forgive me for not coming to your chambers to check on you.” Theta Zac apologized.

“It’s alright Zac. I understand you have to see to the running of the affairs of the infirmary.” I managed a small smile on my face.

Theta Zac smiled in return. “So… ahm.. ahm…” I cleared my throat. “So how is she doing?” I asked, itching the bridge of my nose.

“She is fine.” Theta Zac answered.

“Why did she lost consciousness all of a sudden?” I asked him.

“I didn’t detect anything like sickness when I checked her but one of her men admitted that she always pass out each time she has a vision.” Theta Zac responded.

I raised an eyebrow at his words. “A vision?”

Theta Zac nodded. “Yes alpha king.”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “That’s strange.” I muttered

“No, it is not strange. It is quite normal for her kind. Alpha King, I suppose you are aware that your mate is an hybrid which means that a red witch and an alpha blood runs deep in her veins. The power in the red blood makes her weak anytime she sees a vision while the alpha blood only gives her strength to regain consciousness after some time.” Theta Zac explained.

“Oh! Does that mean witches sees visions too like seers too?” I mouthed.

Theta Zac nodded in agreement. “Yes.” He bowed slightly.

“I know that I am not supposed to be here by this time. But can I see her?” I requested.

“Sure, alpha king. She is in the ward on the last end.” Theta Zac pointed.

“The special ward right?” I asked.

“Yes.” Theta Zac answered.

“I won’t be staying for too long. Thank you so much, Zac. I’ll get back to you before leaving.” My hands dropped to my side.

“Alright, alpha king.” Theta Zac bowed slightly before walking away.

I motioned towards the special ward theta Zac had pointed out to me. On getting to the entrance of the ward, I heard hushed voices coming from inside the room. Is she talking with someone? Who could it be? I listened with my enhanced hearing ability.

“Cain, do you think everything will be fine?” I heard my mate’s voice.

She was talking to Cain! Why is he still with her? I asked general Cullen to get a comfortable room for the Crescent men so they would lay their heads for tonight. So why is he still at the infirmary with her at this time?! I pondered.

“You don’t have to worry alpha-”

She interrupted him. “Come on, Cain. l already told you to drop the formality. Can you stop calling me alpha Mia? I mean.. you are my best friend and I don’t want you being too formal with me.”

Wait! What?! Cain is her best friend? What the heck is going on with these wolves? Why are they close to the extent of being best friends?! I mused.

“I can’t call you by your name anymore. Everything is different now.” Cain answered.

“Cain, nothing is different now. Look at me, I am still the same Mia.” She countered.

“No, I am not going to address you as Mia anymore. Geez! You are my alpha and you have an extra badge.” Cain chuckled.

“What badge? I didn’t even contest in the last sparring battle.” Mia said.

“I am not talking about any sparring battle. I am saying.. you’ll be a Luna soon.” Cain replied.

“Luna? Cain, I don’t think I’ll be a Luna soon. Who knows? I may never be able to be with my destined mate.” I could sense the sadness in her tone.

“Is this about alpha king Sky hating our pack?” Cain asked.

“Do you remember my one and only dream?” She spoke up after a long pause.

“I can never forget your one and only dream.” He chuckled.

What’s that supposed to mean? How much does he know about her? Of course! He must know so much about her because he is her damn best friend!

“Finding your mate has been your one and only dream.” He added quickly and I heard Mia laughing softly.

“Yeah, you are right. I have always dreamed of this day.” She said.

“So do you think I would forget anything that concerns you?” Cain asked.

“You dare not forget anything about me. I am your best friend!” Mia said in a raised tone and they both laughed.

Pang of jealousy stirred within me. She shouldn’t be talking to another wolf like this. To be honest, I envy the closeness between them and I hope there is nothing more going on between these wolves. Even if I end up wanting to accept my mate, I wouldn’t forgive her if she had been with another wolf before she met me.

Silence….. wait why isn’t she talking? What’s going on inside? Why are they not saying anything?

“Cain, you should go to bed now.” Mia broke the silence.

“No, I can’t leave you alone in here.” Cain countered.

“I’ll be fine. Don’t forget I am a trained -”

“Warrior.” He completed her statement.

“Yes.” She said in a low tone.

“Yeah, I know you have a great fighting skill. You can stand up to any man and you can defend yourself. But this time I am not leaving you here alone.” Cain said.

“Come on Cain, go ahead you need to rest. We have a long way to go tomorrow.” She pestered.

“Don’t call me that!” She silenced him but Cain only giggled.

“Okay… listen to me, we are in a place where the people thinks you are an enemy so I can’t risk leaving you here alone when I know anybody can just come in here and hurt you because of the big alpha past deeds.”

Okay.. okay.. now I understand it. He is not leaving that room. And Cain staying with her alone doesn’t sit well with me.

“Go to bed, I’ll watch you.” I heard his voice again.

“No, I am not feeling sleepy.” Mia replied.

“Okay.. then let us keep talking. I have a lot of things to say though. What about a war story I heard from my grandpa? Which one should I share with you? The boy who cried wolf?”

Several minutes passed before Mia spoke up again. “Cain, how am I supposed to make things right with alpha king Sky?”

I was surprised by her question. Perhaps is she bothered about what I think about our mating?

“I believe there is a reason why the moon goddess paired you with the alpha king. And about making things right, I believe… everything will be fine once the truth is proven.” Cain answered.

“I know my father didn’t send that spy or the other spies. He really gave up wanting the throne after alpha Malcolm’s death.”

That’s not true! Her father still wanted my throne even after my father’s death! If she is seeing her father as a good person then probably her father cooked up some stories for her. He wouldn’t want his daughter to know how much evil he can do.

“The alpha king is my mate but I am sure he won’t accept me. He hates because of my father. I saw the hatred that ran deep in his heart even as he spoke to me.” I could sense the sadness in her tone which got to my wolf.

“What about you? Do you want him?” Cain asked.

“Yes.. yes.. yes.. I want him. You know.. I have always wanted to meet my mate. But it is really hard for things to go smoothly between us… like normal mates. We can’t be the perfect mates I have always dreamed of because of everything that has happened over the years.” Her response was sharp and immediate.

Oh! So we all dreamt of this perfect match. Well it seems like every young wolf dream!

“I won’t hate him if he rejects me as long as my father doesn’t leave me too.” She sounded resigned.

“Everything would be fine.” Cain mumbled

“No. No.. I know nothing will be fine if the alpha king doesn’t find out who has been sending those spies to his kingdom.” Mia countered

“Yeah, that’s the only way to prove our alpha’s innocence.” Cain added.

“We are leaving tomorrow right?” Mia asked.

“Yes.. we’ll leave at dawn. But won’t you tell the alpha king about the vision?” He questioned.

“Do you think I should tell him?” No response came from Cain. “But he doesn’t want to see me or talk to me. I am his enemy.” She added.

“Don’t say that alpha Mia. You are irresistible so I am sure the alpha king can’t take his eyes off.” Cain chuckled

Mia snorted. “You are only saying this to make me feel better right?”

“No, I noticed the way he watched you with keen interest. I am sure he won’t reject a beautiful mate like you.”

Wait, did he just call my mate irresistible and beautiful?!

“I am not expecting too much from him.”

No one has the right to call my mate beautiful! Irresistible! He shouldn’t be checking her out! Or even be alone with her! Without knowing I found myself knocking on the door. That must be an impulse from my wolf and it was too late to turn back and leave.
