It was clear as day that everything Alpha Kilian did was intentionally aimed at her.
Not wanting to show any signs of hesitation, Nelly decided to confront him directly.
“No problem. I appreciate you offering me such a big project, and I will make sure to do my job well. But I have to apologize in advance because my presence might make some people uncomfortable.”
A few years ago, Nelly was straightforward and boring. But now, she has become as crafty as a fox. I can’t figure her out at all… She still looks the same, but everything feels different.
With that in mind, Alpha Kilian stared at her and asked, “How genuine is that smile, Nelly?”
Nelly raised an eyebrow in response. “Genuine? Well, that depends on who I’m talking to. If it’s someone like you, Alpha Morris, then I’d say not at all.”RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
Angered by her words, Alpha Kilian grabbed her chin. “If that’s the case, then why did you insist on marrying me?”
“I was young and naive back then. I believed our marriage would last forever, but I was wrong. I now know that there are plenty of other men out there, so I can find someone new if things don’t work out. Are you reminiscing about the past, Alpha Morris? Or are you uncomfortable because my life isn’t in ruins after leaving you?”
Nelly’s words were clearly meant to provoke him.
Alpha Kilian glared at her and muttered through clenched teeth, “Yes, I am uncomfortable. You will have to repay me, Nelly!”
“Oh? And how do you plan on making me do that?” Nelly asked with a sly smile.
Hmm, she’s right… I haven’t thought about how I would make her repay me… But I won’t let it slide! She had no right to make that decision without giving me a choice!
His thoughts were interrupted when Nelly reached out and placed her hands on his shoulders. “Alpha Kilian, don’t tell me you’re regretting it?” she asked teasingly.
Alpha Kilian narrowed his eyes. “Regret what?”
“Back then, you were ashamed of me for being boring and plain. Do you regret it now that you’ve seen how I’ve changed?” Nelly asked mockingly.
It seemed like she had been waiting for the perfect moment to say that.
Seeing through her little game, Alpha Kilian said, “Don’t bother playing these games with me, Nelly. Do you really think I’ll let you off the hook?”
Realizing she had been exposed, Nelly dropped the act and pulled her hand back. “That’s good to hear, Alpha Morris. I was hoping for a peaceful separation, but if you insist on coming after me, then so be it. We can both play this game.”
She sure knows how to act. One moment she’s being intimate, and the next she’s hostile.
“I expect nothing less,” Alpha Kilian sneered.
“Anything else you want to discuss? If not, I’ll be on my way.” Nelly ducked under his arm, stepping away from him. “Why not acquire our company? With all your money, you wouldn’t have to deal with me because I’ll be working under you!” she provocatively suggested before walking off.
The gloom in Alpha Kilian’s eyes deepened as he watched her go.
Lara stormed into Alpha Kilian’s office as soon as he returned.
“Why didn’t you tell me about this decision? Why did you enter into a long-term partnership with Prosper Technologies? Do you even know what you’re doing, Alpha Kilian?” she asked, glaring at him. This was the first time she lost her composure in front of him.
Though clearly displeased with her behavior, Alpha Kilian kept his emotions in check and simply shot her a glare as he sat down.
“What, can’t I make my own decisions now?” he asked icily after a brief pause.
He didn’t raise his voice much, but his presence was enough to terrify her.
Lara quickly composed herself when she realized she had gone too far. “I-I didn’t mean it like that… Why didn’t you tell me beforehand?”
“Why did you reject Prosper Technologies’ project in the first place? I told you to leave it alone for now, didn’t I?” Alpha Kilian questioned.
Lara had pulled similar stunts in the past, but Alpha Kilian was not like anyone she had dealt with before.
“Prosper Technologies’ project wasn’t ideal, so I thought you wanted me to reject it,” Lara explained.
“It may not have been ideal, but it was the best option. I know you did it on purpose, Lara.” He exposed her lie right then and there.
Lara fell silent before nodding. “Yes, you’re right. I did it intentionally. We don’t have to work with Prosper Technologies, so I did it for the sake of the company.”
“Is that the only reason?” Alpha Kilian pressed, staring deeply into her eyes.
Lara sighed in submission. “Fine, I admit I had personal reasons too, but I did it for your own good.”
“Lara, the company and I are separate. It’s not your job to interfere in my personal life.”
Lara froze upon hearing that.
Alpha Kilian has never spoken to me like this before! He would always overlook my mistakes, but now he’s telling me to stay out of his life?
“W-What does this mean?” she asked.
“Just do what you’re supposed to, and nothing more,” Alpha Kilian replied, shifting his gaze to the documents in his hand.
