Accidentally Married

Branch Sixty Four

“Remember what?” Jessica asked confused.

“You really do not remember?” Xavier asked studying her face. “Now I am very hurt that you do not remember”

“Did I lose some memories?” Jessica asked looking into the blank space.

“I can’t believe you have forgotten when you were the one who suggested it,” Xavier said.

A wave of remembrance washed over her. She remembered how she wanted to be in a comfortable position with him and suggested that they become friends. His attitude did not make it easy for them.

He had given her one hurdle after another every time she thought of being close to him. Was he blaming her for them not being friends? He was the reason she could not be in the same space with him.

She remembered the encounter yesterday and how he had handled it. She was supposed to be mad at him but seeing how well he handled the police case and brought her here to take her kind what was going on with her she decided not to bring it up. It would do the both of them no good.

“Okay, then my friend,” Jessica said with a smug. “I have a lot of things going through my mind” she added.

“A penny for every line you say,” Xavier said.

“Are you serious and sure?” she asked and he nodded his head. “I am afraid Mr. Delgado you might be going bankrupt soon” she added.

“Do you have so much bothering you?” Xavier said. His voice was filled with compassion that she could feel.

“Yeah,” she said sighing. “My life had been difficult”

They began to walk slowly. Ever since the both of them met by chance and got married they had had no chance to be together in the same space and even be as close as this.

“You know friends play games when they come to the sea?” Jessica asked with a serious expression.

She was feeling better but she was not sure if it was the right time for her to be telling Xavier the tales of her life and how unfair it had been. Maybe if things change for the better for them and they become comfortable they could have a long talk one day before she leaves the house.

“Games?” Xavier could barely respond before Jessica began running down the beach.

Xavier understood her silence to mean that she did not want to speak about it. He made a mental note to take special care of the ex-boyfriend and friend who were hell-bent on making her feel bad.

He was the one who released the tabloids on her and now the friend went ahead to ruin a perfectly new dress. The money spent on the dress was never the issue. The issue was that they targeted his wife and he was going to show them who they were going up against.

Xavier watched as Jessica ran into the water and out having fun all by herself. She looked especially good today as if she had put in extra effort. She turned to him and her eyes sparkled at him.

“Friend aren’t you coming?”

The sun began to set and the both of them sat at the edge of the sea just starting at the sunset.

“It’s so beautiful out here” Jessica commented.

Xavier looked at her. It was true it was beautiful and her being there made it all picture-perfect too.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.

‘What are you thinking’ he shouted inwardly at himself. Did he just think that his wife in this scene was beautiful and she was the reason everything was so bright and beautiful?

He wanted to stand up but could not get himself to do so. He wanted to watch her again and not take his eyes off her. His phone suddenly rang in his pocket.

The both of them were startled and they looked at each other. Xavier was lost in the trance and left the phone ringing while staring at her.

“Aren’t you going to get that?” Jessica asked whispering and touching his hand gently that was on the sand.

“Erm,” he said and jumped back to life. “Oh yeah I am having a call”

He pulled out his phone from his pant pocket and looked at the name. It was Brian. Xavier internally cussed at Brian for ruining the moment. He could have looked at her for a few more seconds.

“I need to take this it’s about work,” Xavier said standing up.

“Oh yeah sure,” Jessica said.

It was not as if they were doing or saying anything important. They just sat in comfortable silence and stared hard at the beach.

When he stood up Jessica sighed. She has felt his face on her all the while and she had held her breath. Why was he looking at her as such? She would admit she did like his looks and that was almost all about it. He did have a rotten mouth after all.

Her likeness for him went up about ten percent after her encounter today and the way he handled it. And looking at him in that dress shirt and trousers he did look sexy. He had taken off the suit and tie and rolled up the shirt. She used her hand to fan herself lightly before loudly saying to herself.

“What are you thinking Jessica Penelope Joshua?”

“What?” Xavier said coming close to her.

“Hmm?” she hummed back.

“What did you say?” he asked.

“Nothing she said immediately.

“I thought I heard you speak,” he said back.

“I was talking to myself,” she told him.

“I am sorry but I need to go back to the city. One of out top clients is waiting to see me” he explained hoping that she did not get the wrong idea.

“Oh yes,” she said standing up in haste.

How could she be so clueless about these things? She pulled a busy man away from his entire day and made him babysit her and follow her around all day.

“I am sorry. I pulled you from your work all day” she told him.

“What are you sorry about? I am glad to have been of help”

The words she heard of him being glad did something funny to her tummy.

‘He was glad to spend time with her’ she squealed inwardly.
