A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 314 No “If”

Ranita’s heartstrings snapped.

She stared at Brendon, unable to speak for a long time.

“Ranita! Say something!”

Her arm throbbed with pain. She winced. “Brendon, let go. You’re hurting me!” Her voice trembled as she pushed his hand away.

The young woman’s face turned pale.

Brendon loosened his grip slightly but still glared at her with anger in his eyes.NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.

Ranita’s heart was in turmoil. How could she explain? She hadn’t expected to reveal everything so suddenly and unexpectedly.

“… This is my child, it has nothing to do with you.”

“Hmph!” Brendon sneered. “That’s all you’ve got after thinking about it for so long? Ranita, do you have no conscience? Could you have gotten pregnant without me? How can the child have nothing to do with me?”

Ranita winced again as he pulled on her arm and felt her heart twist painfully inside of her chest.

“We’re divorced,” she said quietly.

“Heh! It’s ironic that we just got divorced and I find out that there’s a seed growing inside of your belly…” Brendon’s words were harsh and cut deep into Ranita’s already wounded soul.

She looked at him softly and said, “Brendon, Shannon already had a child with you; shouldn’t that be enough for you? So… whether or not I tell you doesn’t matter.”

Brendon stared coldly at her.

“Tell me Ranita,” he demanded fiercely, “If I hadn’t found out about the baby, would you have kept it anyway or would’ve aborted it after we separated?”

Ranita knew she should explain herself but what good would that do when according to Brendon this baby shouldn’t exist?

Her silence only fueled Brendon’s rage even more; he withdrew his hand from hers and glared sharply at Ranita, “I forbid it!”

She knew he misunderstood but instead of explaining herself further, she spoke coolly, “What happens to this child is my business Mr. Stuart; You don’t get any say in the matter. I want some rest now. Please leave.”

“What are going through your mind Ranita?” He bellowed furiously. “This is our child! Do think you its trash?! Something easily thrown away like garbage?” His emotions were getting the better of him causing his eyes turn red from anger.

It was rare for Brendon lose control like this but right now he was too angry.

When Shannon first told him about being pregnant, Brendon had been stunned. Then looking over the report, his thoughts drifted towards how wonderful things could’ve been if the baby belonged to him and Rantia together.

Unexpectedly, his wish came true and was quickly shattered.

“So, Mr. Stuart, what do you want? Do you want to have the baby? What about Miss Murphy? You can only choose one between me and her! You can only choose one of the two children!”

Ranita had never been as calm as she was today.

But her heart had already been torn into pieces.

“Ranita…” Brendon regained his composure. He looked at her hesitantly and said, “If… I mean if… I choose you, will you come back?”

Brendon had already made it clear to Shannon that he wouldn’t keep the baby even if he divorced Ranita.

“Brendon, there are no ifs in this world.” Ranita pursed her lips and forced a pale smile at him that was both cold and distant.

“Ranita…” Before Brendon could finish speaking, someone suddenly burst into the room in a fit of anger. The person pushed open the door without hesitation and shouted at Brendon, “Brendon! Let go of Ranita!”

“Dylan, mind your own business!” Brendon raised his chin arrogantly and glared coldly at Dylan. But Dylan sneered back, “Mr. Stuart, you’re actually causing trouble here!”

“Oh… by the way,” Dylan added sarcastically before leaving abruptly again. “I just saw Shannon in the elevator looking for you. She’s so pitiful! Why don’t you go see her?”
